Default Front brake spring clip needed?

Hi all,

I did my front brake pads today, and the pads I bought (duralast gold from autozone) didn't have the bracket on the back of the outer pad for the spring clip to go in. I took it around the block and it seemed to be fine without the clip, but I just wanted to make sure. From what I understand it's just for reducing vibrations and noise in the brakes. Any help would be appreciated!

Never mind, I read all the stickies at the top and ordered some Hawk pads off of Amazon.

I'm still confused as to which Volvo you can get pads that will fit though, if I absolutely needed to get a set locally...

The Volvo S40 that shares pads with the MS3 is the T5 AWD variant.
