(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score To save time and trouble, is it possible to keep the strut attached at the bottom, and compress spring while on the car to replace the mount on top, or is it necessary to completely remove the strut? When I attempted to change the front struts a year ago, I couldn't get it free at the bottom, had to take to a shop. Any advise appreciated, thanks!

| Not Ranked : 0 score Technically you can remove the entire lower arm and drop the spindle out, but to get it out enough to work on you'd also have to remove the brakes. Not worth it IMO. There are a number of threads on removing the struts. I bought an 1/8" thick steel chisel and used the bolt trick to spread it open. Came out super easy.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Thanks for your input. I'll count on removing them completely. Should be easier this time around knowing the tricks.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Not much room up there. Plus you will need to make sure the top hat is properly positioned before you tighten it down. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score It's very easy with the reverse bolt trick and a bit of WD-40. Once you crank open the arms, just squirt a bit of WD40 down between the arm and shock body on all sides. With a little bit of downward pressure, the shock will pop right out.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Or just remove the strut from the base by using the emergency jack to pop it out. Works every time for me. |
