Default Wilwood Dynapro 6 BBK

So my Wilwood 6 piston kit came in today, I figured I'd take a pile of detailed pics you you guys

Some very nice looking stainless steel pistons

Brake pad pins are removed by popping out these little C-clips

Size comparison

The edges of the pads press into these small compression clips, I'm thinking it's to minimize movement

Inside of the caliper has no cracks or ridges for brake dust to build up in.

13" 2 piece rotor

How much?
Looks nice. But no dust boots. You live in Ontario. Salt may be more than inconvenience.

These are probably overkill, but they were the best bang for your buck available. It's a nice compromise since they're bigger than the 4 piston kit, but didn't cost $2000+ like Stoptech or the other specialty brands such as AP Racing.

I payed $1600 + tax Canadian for the whole kit.

I'm running the stock setup for the winter, salt would fuck these right up, dust boots or not. I have been in plants that bag ice melt, that is some scary shit that I don't want anywhere near these.

The rotor uses all stainless steel hardware but the rest of the kit does not.

Interesting. My rotors came black...

Tho the install wasn't as bad as I thought. I more peeved with having to use red loctite on everything. Tho I had some issues with my spacers. I'm not sure if its b/c of the ring that wilwood gives you for the hub or not.

What did you use loctite on? How did it hold up being this close to the caliper?

Dust boots? Mine melted off after my first track day. I've been eyeing the 6 pot kit from wilwood for a while, especially for the price. Do any bbk kits have dust boots on the calipers?

The corksport kit has dust boots and I believe you order certain wilwood calipers with dust boots. But like you said, they would probably just melt anyway.

Everything. The bolts securing the rotor hat to the rotor. The bolts on the caliper bracket. Only thing I didn't use loctite on was the brake line fittings where I used ptfe instead of the tape. The instructions called for loctite 271 on every bolt. I have yet to get my car off jackstands to see how well it holds up.

but as you can see my rotors came black.

Ah ok, mine never came with any instructions so this is news to me

How many shims did you have to use to center the caliper over the rotor? They gave me shims to go between the caliper and the spacer bracket as well as shims to go in between the spacer bracket and the hub.

I wont be installing this until spring so I'm just curious

I used 1 on all and they were pretty much centered. Putting 2 between the bracket and calipers seems like it would have been an absolute PITA. I had hard enough time trying to get one shim/washer on each mounting point.

Ok, easy enough

Glad to hear that the kit only requires the width of 2 shims to work. Although I'm still a bit disappointed that the caliper adapters weren't machined with the correct offset from the hub to the rotor in the beginning.

How much are new rotors and calipers? My last brake job cost me over $700 just for fronts. I am switching back to OEMs.

I was quoted $150 each for replacement rotors to fit these hubs. I think these calipers run around $900 if bought seperatly, if you can actually find somewhere to buy just the calipers.

I'm assuming your talking about stock calipers. calipers should never need to be replaced anyway if you take care of them. If you never maintain them and chew out the slider pins than most shops will just throw away the entire caliper rather than rebuilding.

StopTech offers a kit with boots, but if you're really tracking the car often then you're in there often enough to spot any potential wear issues (anything requiring attention) you'd experience without them, and like you and others have pointed out, I can't imagine they'd last long anyway...

I finally got my car rolling and around 500 miles on my Dynapro set. I love these brakes. They made a little noise during the bedding process and removing the black electrocoat, but they are stellar, smooth and completely transparent during the braking process. I can definitely tell the difference during hard braking.

Why would you need 14" rotors on a car that weights less than 5000 pounds?

Given the cost issues the 14" kits are a harder sell. Value of such a large kit remains in they eye of the buyer... Clearly more mass for those with 18s and heavy track day use has its upsides. More rotor mass, greater cooling capacity...and larger more plentiful brake pads/options make the 14 a nice package.

But at the end of the day $1700+ vs sub $1100 for the 13" DP6 kit make it a hard sell. I get it. But for those who run 18s...you have alternate options is all.

So I'm bumping my own thread, because I can and because spring is coming soon.

I'm buying pads and I'm kind of torn between PolyMatrix A and Polymatrix H. The "A" have a very aggressive cold bite but also has the highest hot friction out of any wilwood pad.

The "H" compound has a very linear bite that gets most aggressive as the pad gets over 700 degrees F. The "A" compound starts heavy bite at well below that and slowly tapers down until it reaches approx the same friction values at the same temperature.

I'm leaning towards the "A" compound because the low temp bite will be great on the street and the description has me sold to an extent as well.

"Race ONLY compound used in ARCA, ASA, ALMS, Grand-AM, NASCAR, REMAX, SCCA, USAC, and other severe duty oval, road course, and off-road series that require an aggressive response and durability in the highest temperature ranges"

Got the calipers loaded with PolyMatrix A's and got some Castol SRF

Will post a review in a few weeks when the weather clears.

I'd love to get this stuff on sooner but the weather is JUST starting to get warm. It's supposed to rain all week so hopefully that will wash away all the salt as long it doesn't cool off again.

Do you plan to use the Poly A for street only? For street the Poly A will eat your rotors. I'd recommend BP-10 or BP-20 for the street. I don't believe in dual purpose pads, too many compromises, so I ran BP-20 for street and Poly B for the track.

No, these will be track pads. I most likely won't bother swapping them around for the summer though.

I don't believe in dual purpose pads either

Sorry, yes I did

Install was pretty straight forward, I only have maybe a few hours on them because the car has been down for the last few weeks for a turbo swap among many other things. The pads have insane amounts of initial bite from cold, surprisingly they're pretty quiet so far, they may get louder after some some progressive heat gets into them.

Little update

Car is all up and running and brakes have been given a workout around the street. They squeal like mad when they get warm driving around town, I love it, only way to make it stop is to drive very very hard.

No corrosive rusting brake dust, this is a HUGE bonus over my DTC 60's. The cold bite is a little on the wild side and makes for very jerky stopping around town if your not careful with the pedal.

Track day is slated for Thursday evening so a track review will come then.

Subbed for review of those pads. I just got the wilwood 4-piston calipers and will be loading them with DTC-60s for Saturday's track day here.
Had you previously run the DTCs on the track? With so many options, not really knowing how hard I push the pads, and my inconsistent braking, it was tough to pick a set to start with.
