Default Engine differences??

Yes, I have not made posts on the forum. Yes, I have spent plenty of time searching but I still have a question that I cannot seem to find an answer to.

I am looking to buy a 2010 CX-7 that has a blown engine. Unless I'm mistaken, that is considered a Gen-2 engine. I am considering buying a crashed, but low mile Mazdaspeed 3 for the motor. That one is a Gen-1 for sure.

I've seen conflicting information on this forum. Some say that the engines are the same, Mazdaspeed 3, 6 and CX-7 (except the turbo of course). Internally, they seem to have different combustion shapes, so pistons are different. I get that, but it should make no difference in doing a swap. But on several posts, I've seen people mention that to move a Gen 2 to a Gen 1 car, the powersteering pump and upper wiring must be changed. That makes no sense if the block and head are the same.

As I'm looking to put a Gen 1 into a Gen 2, what do I need to look out for? I plan to take it down the the block and move all manifolds and valve cover over to the fresh engine. What am I missing?
