Default 18"s...19"s...or 20"s

I'm trying to decide which size to go with.....I have a few wheels in mind....but just need to figure out the size....the car is going to be lowered about 2" keep that in mind...

Here are a few of my choices...Want to stay with a black wheel..

18s or 19s. lighter and will save you money on tires in the long run. i have 20s, and i love the way they look, but if i could do it again, id prob go lightweight 19s max. i like the one on the left more. other one should be on the batmobile.

Ya....I was thinking the first one was the winner....they only make that one in a 18" though....I was kinda leaning towards 19"

The fact that you would even consider 20's makes you a dumb ass.

EDIT: God dammit. CX-7 section. I saw this through new posts and thought it was about an MS3.

Perhaps you're not a dumb ass. Or maybe you still are. I don't know.

Nah, I'd stay with 20s or less. I have 20s. Lighter than most 18+tire combos. 22s is just asking for a flat every couple of weeks.

I like the first wheel.

20s look small...lol

so go with 18s for performance...cause itll look small no matter what...might as well run something super light

A lot of people forget this is the CX-7 section.... On the CX-7, once you get to 275, you might see rubbing. 285 will rub for sure.

Your car
Your choice
What are you going for? Max handling? Room for bigger brakes? Getto Bling? Just not stock? Reduced weight?

While I think a set of light 19's is just about optimum for performance ie cornering, there are trade offs for any of these.

Shorter sidewalls mean less flex, which means ruffer ride and possible rim damage if you hit a large enough hole etc.

Look at what you want out of these rims/tires. Looks or performance. Lower Cost? etc.

Then decide for yourself.

Alpha W. has it correct in my opinion. I'd stick with 18" unless you have a specific need or reason to go to 19 which is the abs max I'd consider.

I'd like to share my experience with 22".

No rubbing all was good fit was ok (22)

I put the 22" on my cx7 and noticed a loss in power (and of course the harsher ride), normal driving was not as noticeable, but soon as you gun it, the power loss was noticeable i was lossing 2psi boost. Ok you may think 2 psi will not make a difference, but it did.

Even the auto gear changing seemed different

Standard wheel size was 19x7.5, i now have the same wheel in the pictures below, but in the 20x8 size and all is back normal!

The cx9 use 20" standard.

Not sure it is back to normal.

But changing the diameter of the rim/wheel to one that is larger in OD effectively raises your overall gear ratio. This lowers the torque output which is your actual power.

Also larger rims or cheaper rims are not engineered well and many may add 25+ pounds to each wheel. This is the worse place to add weight as it affects the suspension, braking and acceleration of your car.

So if you changed to much lighter rims/tires the car will have more poop. Deviate too much from stock and your car will have issues as you noted.
