Tires again?!?! (sorry)

I had my wife's 2010 CX7 isport (I believe) today and decided to take the car for a tire rotate and balance at the shop that is walking distance from home. They called and said that the rear tires were too warn to rotate and that they would not balance them either (too far gone).
These are the factory tired with about 45K miles on them so I'm not sad that they need changed.

The shop said that the only maker of the specific size tire is Bridgestone (215/70R17) and that they could get them in a couple of days for about $210 each.

SO looking at the chart here am I understanding that any of the 17's listed will work? I'm not a huge bridgestone fan and DO NOT LIKE that I'm stuck in a size only made by one company.

I did some research (google search) and see that some people have gone to the 225/65R17 but I want to be sure that is the best choice. From what I read in the other tire threads many of you have the turbo's with larger rims/tires so it may be a long shot, but I'm trying anyway...

Suck! Didn't realize the 2010 sports got boned on tire options. If I was you & had the money/time, shop around for 2007-2009 cx7 stock wheels or even some rx8 wheels and get a more common size. Tirerack & discounttire.com usually have some kind of wheel & tire combos & might be cheapee as they mount & balance them then ship them to you.

45K on the stockers is EXTREMELY GOOD BTW

It was actually 49K on the stock tires and I still have 2 of them on there now. I ended up at Discount Tire this evening after work and had them load a set (2) of Yokohama YK580's on the rear. I figure I'll be able to get a few thousand more miles out of the front tires before getting them changed out as well.

I was quite surprised as the sales guy knew the stock tires and the size I was going to ask for as soon as he saw the car. I'm guessing I wasn't the first person looking for more selections of tire brands.

As for changing out the rims, I kinda like the stock rims on the CX7 that we have. Yea there are plenty of gaps that need to be cleaned (when it gets washed) but I think they look nice enough. I've never been too hyped about rims / tire size.
