(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Hey guys, Installed a prosport electric boost gage tonight, everything went easy, except the gage stays illuminated for a while after I shut off the car and remove the key. I tried wiring it to two different sources, first I used the Illumination for the radio, then i just went with a switched +12 lead. Is this normal? or do I have it wired incorectly? Thanks Stan-O

| Not Ranked : 0 score This is not normal. Are you tapping wires, or fuses. Either way let us know which specific things you are getting power from for each gauges wire and we can help.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Hey, Thanks for the reply, I used an inline fuse, and connected both red wires and the orange wire to the fuse and connected it to a switched location in the fusebox under the hood. I haven't checked if the switched fuse location is providing power after shut down for 30 seconds or so. I'll have to check that. Thanks Stan-O

| Not Ranked : 0 score A "switched location" is too vague to help much... but the fact that you're receiving power for a small window of time and it goes away, sounds like you're tapping into some sort of relay, instead of a dedicated switched source.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score no, it's not a relay. In the fuse box under the hood there are 3 open locations that are switched, and 2 that are constant. I tapped one switched for my MI system and another for my gage. If it's any help, I tapped the orange wire to my Radio Illumination and had the same result. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it Stan-O

| Not Ranked : 0 score WHen I did my gauges I tapped into to my ciggarette lighter. My VEI gauges used to sources of power one switched the other was for lighted. For the switched power I tapped right into the lighter itself, for lighted power theres a little light in the ashtray that only comes on when the lights are turned on I tapped into that for the lighted power.I dont know about your prosport but in my gauges theres a shut down sequence it goes through. So maybe thats what yours is doing,do you notice any sequence of flashing lights or anything during this 30 seconds?

| Not Ranked : 0 score I think its normal. My Prosport turns off in about 3 seconds or so, it goes thru the different colors of illumination then shuts off. |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score No different colors, mine doesn't have different colors to select, just amber or white ( pending the wire you supply power to ) But it does return the needle to 0 during shutdown.

| Not Ranked : 0 score speed 6 or speed 3?.. why not install your own switch and run a lead right from the battery?... Makes removal 10x easier as well. Also, how many wires are coming off the back of the gauge? If you have 3 connected to the fuse, and none are grounds.. theres your problem. you should only have to connect one wire to a +12v source, and 1 to a ground. Then connect your vacuum lines and you have a functional boost gauge. |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Car is a Speed3 I'm sorry but I don't see how the way you described can be easier than the way I installed mine. I have 1 wire going through the hood latch opening in the firewall. That 1 wire is the +12v for my gage and illuminaion ( amber ) and is also connected to the gage power requirements. The ground is connected to the chasis under the kick panel by your left foot. If there was no ground, it would not work at all. The back of the gage has a wire for the boost sensor, 3 +12v wires ( one for power, and 2 for illumination-pending the color you want to illuminate ) and a ground. This is an electronic premium boost gage without peak/hold.

| Not Ranked : 0 score On my Speed 6 after I turn off the ignition the power windows and radio will still function for a short period of time. Maybe the Speed 3 has this feature too and you tapped a wire that stays powered up after the ignition is shut off. (?) |

| Not Ranked : 0 score One thing to test out and report back. Sounds like you've got it setup for white/day and amber/night. (as do I) Test both colors out, and see if one or both, seem to stay on after your key is out. It will help pin point the problem.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I disconnected the orange wire, I found that the amber illumination was too bright at night, the reflection was way too bright in my side mirror ( Vent pod ) I still have to check the power, to see if it stay alive after switch off. I'll let you know

| Not Ranked : 0 score If you used the 2 switch ports that are empty in the fuse box that are open (Top 2 closest to the front of the car), then it is normal. They are switched yes, but appear to be on a relay and in fact the same relay for the Fuel Pump. Mine does this as well and if you listen closely you can hear your FP motor turn off when your gauges do. Not only that but it appears that from time to time this relay turns on by itself as I have come out numerous times and my gauges are lit with the car off o.0. I simply left it like this as I wanted to run to the fuse box and not just cut a wire. Mine have been like this for almost a year now without issue. |

I am pretty confused about which wires go where and why. I assume for the 12v constant I want to hit up a cig lighters power, for my daytime I want to do something else (I have no idea) and my night time I want to hook it up to a power source that only comes on when I turn my headlights on. someone suggested a little light in cig lighter or ash tray or something me + electronics = fail ![]() even a fwd to a good walkthrough of this would be sweet thanks fellas ![]() obviousely I know what to do with a ground

| Not Ranked : 0 score I think this might be normal for prosport gauges. Especially since most have an "opening and closing ceremony" and yours doesn't....maybe it's just possible yours has a delay. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I would chime in, but I used add-a-circuits in the fuse panel under the dashboard. No splicing. I'm currently running an electronic boost gauge and oil pressure. Both are hooked up using add-a-circuits. I find it so much easier and safer as long as you keep it within the recommended amperage. I forgot what slots I'm using for constant though. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score so I got it and put it in but I couldnt figure out a wiring configuration for it to be dimmer at night and brighter during the day. The wires on the prosport mechanical gauge I got were black (ground) orange, purple, and yellow.... what the heck...

| Not Ranked : 0 score I'm pretty sure there isnt a way to dim the gauges.. I know on my Speed6 (electrical gauge) I ran my RED - power wire to the fuse box with an inline fuse, ORANGE - amber light wire to the coin tray light, WHITE - white light wire to the radio, and the BLACK - ground wire to the bolt under the console.. I had problems trying to figure out where to run my wires to, its actually a big mess of wires I have running underneath my center console but the gauge works so I haven't fooled with it to dress everything up yet. |
