But I'm pretty optimistic about it

-I've never pulled a motor before, good learning experience, and it's supposed to be easy on a miata.
-Once it's out I can clean the bay, engine itself
-Also while it's out I can knock out a lot of stuff like clutch/flywheel, coolant reroute, mount the mani, turbo, oil, coolant lines, injectors and other stuff before I put it back in...

Right now it's on base at the auto hobby shop. Planning on going in tomorrow to pull the motor. Then I have all weekend to do all that stuff listed above.. maybe if I'm lucky and can get some help I'll have it back in the car this weekend and finally be able to start her up.

clutch and crap tomorrow. i ordered all new coolant hoses, belts, and some other misc stuff. gonna hopefully also get to mounting turbo, mani, etc etc tomorrow as well as some of the coolant rereoute stuff. either way gotta wait for oil pickup and now coolant hoses and all that stuff to ship and come in. really once all that stuff is in, should be back in the car pretty quickly, then i just need to reattach ecu, put the exhaust back on and will fire it up

The aluminum MS ones suck in rainy weather. I spend the first 10 minutes rubbing my shoes on the carpet at stop lights so they dont slip off...

May try skateboard grip tape.

My clutch pedal cover is mostly polyurethane caulk with a little bit of window screen for grip. Not kidding in the slightest. Way cooler.

Just ordered full exhaust - Miata Turbo Forum - Home of the turbo Mazda Miata.

I was going to try and find lightly used begi/fm parts, and I could have definitely saved money going that route, but I have a NB and I had a hard time finding used parts. Coulda got any old manifold, but downpipe and exhaust, NB is just less common so not really a huge selection. Some guys buy NA for their NB and then end up modifying it to make it work, but I don't have welder etc.

Ultimately I just decided to get new parts for exhaust, plus then I could get exactly what I wanted. It came down to Begi vs ARTech for me and once I looked into it and ran the numbers it was no brainer for me. Manifold/downpipe prices are about the same, but I'll take a nice tube manifold over log anyday... Exhaust is really where Begi/FM get expensive and ARtech has a great deal. Anyways I guess overall I might recommend waiting to get light used parts if you have an NA, but either way attached is the price comparison sheet I made for myself comparing all different options I was looking at.

Yes definitely AC and PS compatible

fuck I am tired.

Did a lot of work today with steve (thanks steve/messiah).

I replaced all of the coolant hoses... steve did the injectors, then we went to tackle the oil pan. I also mounted the manifold and turbo and ran the oil lines.

Got it dropped... realized you needed/car used rubber gaskets for front and rear, so I ended up driving 1 hour each way to get some, ugh. Spent a lot of time scraping RTV... but it's all back togehtr now with a properly tapped drain and clean oil pan.

The fail that started it all:

well, i was gonna do the diff today, but apparently it's needed/a good idea to replace the axle seals which you're at it..and no one carries them locally. Makes sense...but I've never done this shit before so idk what all has seals/need replaced etc... all a learning experience for me. Advance auto should have some tomorrow, ugh. This is really what's held me back the most, is waiting for misc/weird parts that no one stocks locally. Also sucks buying those parts online and paying more in shipping than actual part costs.

But yeah, looking at my "to do" and "to buy" lists... differential swap is really the only thing left before putting the motor back in
