Default OEM halogen vs HID kit questions

I have a 07 mazdaspeed 3. I want to install an HID kit but ive been hearing from some people that it will give off a terrible glare with the stock halogeb projectors. i was wondering if anyone has had any problems with blinding other drivers. i was also wondering if the car would still pass inspection. i was thinking i might leave the headlights oem and make the fogs HID. i would appreciate any feedback out there

I did my fogs. As long as you leave the little shield in them there isn't any glare issues.

I did an HID kit on my halogen eqipped Sport model. I don't seem to have any glare and I even adjusted the headlights up more.

Nobody has flashed their brights at me signaling anything obnoxiously wrong since I put HIDs in to replace the Halogens, so I'm assuming they aren't too bad. From my perspective they're great. Maybe they're so blinded by my glare they're unable to find their high-beam toggle in time?? Hmm... Guess that might explain all the crashes in the opposite lane from me on the highway.

all cars with oem hid's use a projector housing. there's no difference in the halogen project than the oem hid project other than the lense itself which has to do with the cutoff of the beam. you will be just fine installing hid's on your oem equiped halogen projectors. i had them on my mz3 and just installed them on my ms3 last week.

HID bulbs in the oem halogen projectors will have noticeable glare above center due to the design of the shield, and nasty glare out to the sides because the halogen reflector bowls don't focus the light from the HID burner properly. a lot of the light will be wasted.

just because people don't flash you doesn't mean you aren't glaring them. there was some idiot in a lifted truck last week with hid reflectors blinding the holy living fuck out of everyone on the road, and nobody flashed him. it takes quite a lot for someone to flash you, but lack of flashing doesn't mean there isn't a problem.

wrong and wrong.

some oem hids have reflectors, hence the existence of the d2r bulb.

and the oem mazda3 halogens and oem mazda3 hids not only have different shields, they have different projector bowls as well. because the h7 and d2s bulbs have different output patterns which require different focusing.

+1. The projector lense is different, too. I tried out a lense from a regular 3 on my Speed3 projector just for kicks and the cutoff line on the wall was SUPER blurry compared to the HID lense.

H7 and D2S have the same focal point for exposure, before the HID kits were so popular and cheap, I was putting D2S bulbs in H7 projectors for my GSX-R's... They worked perfectly, and perhaps the most popular retrofitted projector of the time (Valeo H7) was used with D2S bulbs and a simple plate which would work as the notch found on the H7 bowl... The D2S has the same base as well, just without the notch...
