Default Roof Rack

Ok so i am not sure if this thread fits in this room but i figured the roof rack is somewhat of an appearance mod...

Has anybody ever gotten a roof rack for their MS3? I like to go mountain biking and snowboarding so I guess a roof rack would be something I would like to look into in the future.

it uses the fixed points under the black rail ( yes there are threads under there ) Some guys go ahead and get the Canadian 3's rails as they have the holes exposed with little covers that can be removed. I didn't get the rails, so I drilled through the rails and opened it up with a dremel tool.

I got them direct from ROLA Roof Racks butr you have to email them and talk to a guy nemed craig, see below for his information. I don't remember the exact price, It was $810 AU with shipping which was just over $600 with the exchange rate at the time I orderedl. The only pain in the ass about ordering the whole thing is that you have to wire money to them, they don't use pay pal. But they are trustworthy.

If anyone wants the model #'s here is the information:

1 x RM307 Sports Removable Roof Rack (60kgs) $310.00 ea au + freight to you
2 x BCF2 Bike Carrier with Extension $160.00 ea au + freight to you

All freight options are traceable;

1. (eci post door to door 3 - 5 working days to you) $230.00
2. (epi post door to door 4 - 7 working days to you) $180.00

Contact Craig D at rapoz@repco.com.au for a current quote

If you want to order the Canadian roof rails, any dealer in the USA can order these parts for you. Here are the roof rail part numbers:

R: B32H-50-9H0
L: B32H-50-9L0

I do not know the price on the rails, so please don't ask.

I love the look of that yakima rack, I wish that I had a reason to have one, I'm too lazy though for any thing that might entail needing a roof rack! sigh! maybe I'll stop being so lazy one day and give myself a reason to need one.

The rack system usually go for 300 to 450. What you put on top of the rack (bike rack, ski rack, cargo rack, and etc.) will depend. My bike rack trays are about 125 a piece. I got a special deal on my rack system for 280 bucks.

rack system 280 + 2 bike tray 250 + one wheel carrier 35= $565
There may be other miscellaneous that I forgot but I don't think it would add to the cast too much.

I'll tell Stockton PD to pay very close attention to a certain red MS3 with a bike rack on top. You can't miss him, he drives 100 mph in construction and school zones.

I like Renzos racks the most. Ive been worring about installing racks though, i know a lot of people that have scratched their roof just trying to install them (not the smartest people ever but still)

I just sold my roof rack to member on MOCCforums. There was not a single scratch, but I will reccommend putting some kind of rockblocker or suck , where the bottom of the fairing clips, touch the roof of the car. tiny amounts of dirt get caught in there, and the wind forcing the legs to move around, will dull the clearcoat. Its nothing big, I just need to buff or wax it out, but it could have been prevented.

Are you saying that the Speed6 has the mounting holes or that the prefabricated molding is available? I don't konw if the Speed6 has the mounting holes or not. Why don't you pull your rain gutter molding off to see if there are mouting holes. If there are you can just drill a small hole through the rain gutter molding. I did that on my old Mazda 3.

mounting holes are there on the speed6 as well. I know the moldings exist just looking for the part numbers. I could drill I suppose but I think Thule's fit kit actually goes through the molding a little.

It doesn't go through the molding. It just rest on it and the body.

howdy, everyone!!! my reply to this thread is pretty late, considering that the last post date was in 07.2009. i wanted to say thanks to Stan-O for showing pics of the ROLA roof rack. your pics closed the deal on which racks i wanted for my ride...like with everyone, i wanted to stand apart from the crowd (from experience though, i noticed some people would find that criminal)...i found a website that sells and ships ROLA roof racks and accessories here in the U.S. ...prices aren't too bad either, comparable to THULE or YAKIMA...one plus about the ROLA's i found out was that you don't need to spend the extra scrilla on a wind fairing to cut down on the noise...oh yeah, that website is Trailer hitch, hitches and bike rack (800)298-8924...

Close ups of where it mounts please.
How are the instructions?
Did you drill the rail or replace it with the multi part rail?

the ROLA roof rack instructions were pretty straight forward...the mounting screws seemed almost too long though, once i've got some free time i want to check the local hardware store and see if i can buy same type of security screws with the same thread pattern but in a shorter size...installing the rack on multi part rails took some patience...you can't install each pillar separately, you do them in pairs...you tighten one pillar a few turns then you go to the other side of the car and do the same on the other pillar, then you repeat the process until you're done with that pair...it gets repetitive so some patience is required...the reason being for all this repetition is because as you install the pillars, the load bar has already been attached to them...so you have to even out the pressure that would build up if you were to install one side at a time...a lot of walking from one side of the car to the other is what it comes down to so that you could tighten the mounting screws a few turns then you hop over to the side and do it again...i'll try to get you those up close pics, except i want to see if i can find shorter security mounting bolts first...so that i can show a comparison between the two...i'll try to get the screws tomorrow and see how it goes...
