Default Drag slick setups by Driver.

Here is a lil info for those who might have questions about what I have used or recomment. I get pms daily on this question so here it is. I hope this is answers your question and helps you in your hunt to go fast. I dont know it all but this is my experience with this platform.

26x9.5x16 hoosier on a any 16x7-8 wheel is easiest way to go. Bolt right on and get 1.8-1.9 60fts. Most will go this way but for guys going over 115 trap they wont like them cause thats when 5th gear shift is needed. For 99% of the peeps they work great. good size burnout is required to heat these up. I recomment 11-14psi in them depending on track conditions and a good 15-20 second burnout. These tires are great for peeps searching for those mid low 12s. 11s are possible with a good driver and lots of power. Best 60ft for me was 1.73 average 1.85.

25x9x15 toyos on a 15x7-9 wheel is the best way to go. A 1.75 spacer is recommended for proper clearance but I made 1.5 work with proper wheel choice. Expect 1.6-1.8 60ft. Run 11-13psi in these depending on conditions and do a 10-15 second burnout to clean them up and put some heat in them. I prefer this setup cause they hook amazing and put me in the middle of 5th allowing for me to get into 5th and let it pull instead of shifting right at the end of the track. These take more work in the first half of track cause you are shifting alot and it happens fast. This is for more serious peeps but i do recommend this setup to peeps who want 11s. Best 60ft for me was 1.72 average 1.76. They are deadly consistant.

Maybe this can be stickied to help peeps in there choice for sticky tires.

On a more serious note, I guess to help other noobs in drag like myself:

Hoosier Tire

I scrolled down to the tires you've specified:

Code:
17431	26x 9.50-16LT	D	8.0"	26.1"	82.0"	6-8"	8"	9.3"	18	Quick Time Pro
And for the tire you've specified, they recommend a 6-8" rim..

What am I missing?

Apologies for my stupidity in advance

@driver311

That would be the rim width, you can see in the OP driver mentioned to use a 7 - 8" rim.

I ran raceline 16x7 wheels and now Im on raceline 15x7 wheels. I plan on switching back to some ultra light weight motegi trak lites soon. I used to have them when I was going 12s stock turbo two years ago.

28s are a no go on this car. But the 26x8.5x15 m&h would probably be perfect for this car. 1.6 60fts easy. Just need to raise the car up on coilovers or stock height might work. Plus you would need the spacers like I run.

Double.... On 26s you will still be in 5th. Probably shift there around the 1000ft mark . I was the last time I went out and ran on Austins hoosiers with only 400whp. With 100whp more your gonna be deep in 5th. Sorry. LOL

I'm assuming the Hoosier Drag Slicks in a 28.0/10.0-16 would be too tall.

I currently have Hoosier QTP in 26x9.5-16 on Mustang V6 16x7 wheels.

Let's do it dude. I want to do this during my build. Trying to find places to get it done has been my problem. We're both gonna want new gears for the strip. 5th/6th gear at the trap is gay. And bad for ETs.

Do you know what the offsets were on those 15" wheels are? I'm pretty dead set on getting 15's for next season with a true slick to see where things land. I see Toyo has a 26x9-15 that I might scoop up. I'm thinking it'll be a little more forgiving with my stupid low end torque off the line.

You will have to raise the car up to stock minimum maybe higher. Im pretty sure I have a 42 offset but anything lower would be great. as in 40-30offset. Cause they are already gonna be out past the fender. The 26x9x15 toyo or 26x8.5x15 m&h would be great choices. Truely id do the m&h. Many srt folk have cut low 1.6s on them and even a couple high 1.5s. The toyos in 25x9x15 are a great fit though and I think you would be extremely happy with them. Thats the route I suggest Phate. They work fucking amazing. Low 1.7s consistantly for this thug. LOL

If you stick with stock turbo for a bit then the 26s might be a better option.

Alright, thanks. I am definitely sticking with stock turbo. Gotta see what I can do with it. The price difference between the Toyo and M&H is pretty minimal, so I may just do the M&H. There is also a Hoosier slick that would serve us well (26x9-15). Price wise, it's between the Toyo and M&H. First, I'm going to find a set of wheels in the offset you mentioned. I have until April when I can hit the strip, so I have some time to get this sorted out.

Go lightweight. rota makes a few and there are a few 15x8 wheels on tire rack. I think trmotorsports maybe? My cheap racelines work for now but Id like to have my motegi trak lites back. Sooo expensive though, but at only 8-9lbs a wheel they are crazy lite.

Yep, I'm looking in the category of "track light" wheels. Not sure which I want, but I'm only getting two, so that justifies spending more per wheel/tire....right?

So I'm looking at these wheels:

Weld Racing 96-58210 - Weld Racing Prostar Polished Wheels - Overview - SummitRacing.com

15x8, 5x4.5, +25 offset (5.5" Backspacing), 15lb ship weight, $190e - With a spacer like you suggested (1.5-1.75"), I'm hoping they might work. Unless you know otherwise, @driver311, I'm going to order one and see if they will work.

Were your Motegi Traklites 15x7's? I don't find them in 15x8.

I'm more worried about getting the car to hook on the little end, so I'm thinking the 8" wheel will be advantageous to the 7" wheel with the 26x9x15 or 26x8.5x15 tires. Getting a 9" wheel to fit may be an act of god, so I don't think I want to venture there just yet.

You probably wont need that big of a spacer with that offset. 1.5 h&r adapter/spacers will be fine. I suggest getting the tr motorsports wheels in a 15x8 or even 15x9. They are like 130 a wheel and very light. The trak lite wheels are the lightest and I like those. With the 26x8.5x15 m&h slicks you wont have any issues with 60fts bro. This setup on a stock turbo will pull 1.60-1.65 with ease. Run about 12psi in the tires and make shit happen. I cant wait to see what you run. With this tire you will be able to run 4th gear out and not have to shift to 5th. Unless you trap over 116 but Im guessing you will be right there. With even a 1.75 60ft. a 115 trap will net you a 11.8 run if you bang those gears at 5800 FAST! I think your car can run 11.6@117 though. Itll just take a low 1.6 60ft but it wont be hard with stock turbo. Go get em dog!!

The tr motorsports wheels are like 139 a wheel and look great. My friend runs them for autocross and work killer.

Yeah, we need part #'s and links.

I'm selling my Hoosiers this weekend, so I need to have another setup soon. Atco opens in February.

Just talked to tirerack about TR motorsports and Motegi. They don't have any 15x8's or 15x9's which are 5x114.3/5x4.5 that come as close to [potentially] working as the above Weld wheels.

I'll be doing a small brake kit for a drag setup. Probably gonna pick up SSR Competitions. 15x7 weighs like 10.2 lbs/ea and runs like $400/ea. Spacers if need be. Still undecided on the tires and what size to run tho.

If you guys want to get serious and spend money once on front drag wheels, just go with custom P2 Bogarts.

I'm running them on my Z and the front runners tip in a 6lbs... 15x10 rears are only 8lbs~.

Saving rotating weight is HUGE and then you won't need to run any heavy spacers either...

Only about $300 per wheel too!

I had this same set on my srt4. Gold center polished outers. I paid $1800 wheels and tires. The skinnies alone added 2 mph to that car. I been putting it off but I need to order my skinnies for this car soon. I think i might go with the 26s also. I really wanna be rocking low 1.6 60fts and this car shouldnt be that hard to do it with the shorter gearing.

So, I ordered one of these wheels to see if they will work for us:

Weld Racing 96-58210 - Weld Racing Prostar Polished Wheels - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Should be here tomorrow. I'll take some pics and see if spacers will allow them to work for us.

If worse comes to worse, I'll get a brake setup from a 2.0 reg 3.

Swapping setups won't take too long.

Eff that, man. I'm a hardcore minimalist, and I want to go as fast as possible while changing as little as possible. Mind you, my car will essentially be CAI/DP/E85 on slicks, and full weight. Gotta see what we can do while retaining as much of the original setup as possible

Soo, the Weld wheels will clear the brakes with only a .25-.375" spacer. BUT, they will be outside of the fender by .5-1" That's a bit much for me, so I'm returning it.

93-95 RX-7 FD wheels are 16x8, +50 offset, bolt right up and are very light. They can be found for cheap too. I have a set with Bridgeston RE-11's mounted for when I go to Deals Gap. You will almost certainly need a spacer with this offset and 9.5 slicks.

Pic is with 225/55/16 snow tire on the wheel.

So I took some better measurements of the Welds:

It would take a 10mm spacer in order to keep the very outer edge of the brakes from rubbing the inside of the wheel. Other than that, they could work. You may even be able to get away with a smaller spacer if you were to 'massage' the caliper and bracket just a tiny bit. Links to pics below of where they rub. They will almost definitely poke.

With this wheel, +25 offset, and a 10mm spacer, we have about 40mm to play with until we have to worry about the hitting the strut with the edge of the wheel. So I'm thinking something ending up in the +45-50mm range would be ideal. I'm going to call Bogart to see what it would cost for some wheels .
