(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Review of my first track day after the rebuild First the bad: My car lit on fire, something behind the brake booster definitely was on fire destroying my throttle cables. There's simply too much heat back there. The good: the car handled absolutely amazing, like unbelievably good, I was driving a totally new car. The tires gripped like crazy, I could go flat out of every apex and just turn the wheel with no issues. The car had incredible engine response, even though I was only running 12 PSI. Spool up was instant and the car would just launch out of corners. What I need to fix: I need to pull the brake booster and repair anything that melted. Need more heat protection everywhere, many more heat sheilds needed.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score The problem is that my massive long tube exhaust manifold is just that, massive. The heat travels everywhere and is going to destroy everything. The manifold if probably close to double the runner length of most OTS manifolds. I bought 7 square feet of DEI firewall/tunnel shielding that's good for 1750 degrees of direct heat. I also got a 1' X 4' roll of Thermo-Tec 13575 Adhesive Backed Heat Barrier, it's basically a silica sheet with a foil top and is good for 2000 degrees of radiant heat. I plan on covering everything

| Not Ranked : 0 score See it there is a way to re-route the harness, maybe even move this section inside the cabin if possible.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Heat protection is almost done, I'd like some sheilds around the HPFP and brake booster area still. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm building a new front splitter, the one i have isn't really working out the way I had hoped. The diffusing areas don't have any room to vent into the fenders due to carious things. I'm building a hammerhead style like you'd see in WTAC, it will be stronger, lighter and easier to build. This time it's getting CNC cut regardless of what its made from ![]() ![]() ![]() The end result will extend 3" farther at the front and 6" wider on each side. I'll be damming off the opening at the bottom of the bumper and closing the fog light openings. The goal is to unbalance the car, that way I'll know it's working. ![]() ![]() EDIT: As silly as it sounds this is still a STREET driven car. It drives to meets, it drives to the grocery store and it drives itself to the track. This means curbs, speed bumps and worst of all parking lot inclines. The car is still going to scrape hard going into gas stations and stuff so if I make a splitter that's totally rigid I'm going to need to add a flex point somewhere. I'm thinking of adding hinges to the rear mounts and support the front with cables.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Sooo much gold ![]() ![]() Seriously awesome project, man. Had a thought: why not use the fog light openings as an air channel for brake cooling? With the splitter shoving air in there, you might see some results at the track. Idk if it would affect your stagnation zone, but could always try it out. Currently don't have an issue with brake temps with the Cobalt Friction pads I'm running. But I'll be posting up some drawings later that have some options.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Car is all up and running for the most part, still has issues, ECU might be toast in spots. I'll dig up the codes later if I remember. New splitter is pretty much complete, just a bit more filling and sanding then I need to build chassis mounts and end plate mounts. It's made out of 1/2" plywood and wrapped in unidirectional 13oz fiberglass. It's huge, I'm aware, deal with it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

| Not Ranked : 0 score So I reread your whole thread and I was curious what the motor/turbo is? I also assumed you posted wheel/tyre specs, couldn't find em. Did you post the motor build elsewhere? I had a bunch of other questions, but I figured that I was just an idiot, so I did some research and I still can't figure out some of the other stuff under your hood: all those braided hoses plug into a box of metal with holes that looks almost like a filter, what is that box? Did you do all the custom metal routing/pipe welding yourself and is it all Al or steel? Lastly, I'm not hating on the giant splitter, but if I understand car aero correctly (I'm an aero engineer, but I went to school for stuff at 30k ft, and I'm currently in the rocket bidness) unless you are actually going to profile the sides, anything that sticks out past the fenders really isn't doing anything for you. The idea would be to force air up and over the fenders. Went to a local car meet here in CO and one of the local shops brought their Pikes Peak Hill Climb Porsche and it had a similar front to your time attack design inspiration with the exception of some larger fencing on the outside of the splitter. My recommendation, which you are free to ignore, would be to cut it at the width of your big ass tires (which look sick btw), fence it there, and give yourself a good bit of real estate with which to force air up over the fenders. However, maybe you should try what you've got and see if it performs and then tweak it from there. Jettisoned from my personal computing unit |

The box is a twin catch can setup, the upper half is packed with steel wool, both sides are totally separated. I did all the piping myself, it's very thin mild steel. I had actually planned to profile the sides of the splitter on the top side, I have some end plates cut from aluminum that I have yet to mount. I was just copying what the current trend seems to be on current time attack cars, I'm faaaar from an expert.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I apologize if some of my posts are kind of vague, I really never take much time to explain what I'm actually doing or what I'm trying to achieve. So if anyone has any questions at all just ask. Some of these ideas may seem silly or stupid, but at the end of the day this entire car is just something for me to screw around with and try different things, some will work and some will not. So far the giant tire setup worked crazy good for the 10 or so laps I got out of it before the car caught fire. I had more grip than I ever could have imagined, like twice the grip I ever had when I was running my 225 slicks. So if I can mess around with some aero to really make the car stick I'm going to go for it. The car only has an S3 turbo and the meth isn't even hooked up yet. It may seem low on power but so far it's been more than enough to dominate nearly everything in in intermediate class on track days. EDIT: I'd also like to add that since the addition of the diffused intake manifold and tubular exhaust manifold the car has become VASTLY more responsive. At first I thought it may just be my butt dyno playing tricks on my but now I've compared it against 2 other speed 3s. My butt dyno isn't lying.
