Default How is the MS3 in the Snow? Performance? & And other questions.

Im new to the Forum i just introduced myself yesterday and i have a few questions about the Mazda speed3. How is the car in the snow? Mainly going up and down Mountains? Im also looking at a WRX as well mainly for the AWD but they are so expensive.. even used! This is a tough decision for me. Also i checked this mourning and it seems there is hardly any Mazda dealers near me in Northeast PA And the ones that are here dont have any MS3's in stock. I did a search and it seems i would have to travel about 100 to 150 miles to get a good deal on one. Also i really love fast cars ive owned everything from camaro ss to chrysler 300SRT8 to challenger R/T. Im now just starting to get into these 4 door turbo cars mainly for the practicality and 4 doors being i got kids. But how does the performance compair to those big v8's? Ive always been an American Muscle guy.. But those cars just arent practical for me any more..I want to be able to at least run with them tho.. i want to make sure i pick the right car cause my next car i plan to keep for a long time and it need to be able to keep me happy performance wise or i move on pretty quick.

Like Raider said read, donate, read more.

If you choose the Mazdaspeed you will not be disappointed. The support and knowledge this Forum brings is priceless when modding or for general maintenance how to's. I was a member here 6 months before I bought mine and I do not regret my decision at all.

Those aren't big V8's. The MS3 is faster than pretty much all of those cars with just an intake and tune.

Awd > fwd > rwd

being from TX I don't see much snow. But my ms3 had done fine, although we don't have any mountains.

Probably sent from a toilet

New Mustang 5.0 is a beast. Don't mess with one unless your pushing at least 400whp or more with a good driver mod.

Ya i would love to buy one.. Just not practical especially RWD living around Mountains in the winter! I f i did buy one i would also have to have a dedicated beater car. Plus when i looked at a used 2011 5.0 they look really small close up especially the interior. And as far as the back seat goes forget it!!..LOL

Im faster then a srt8 from 40... As for a 5.0, like above those are beasts. If he has driver mod it will take a good amount of mods to beat one.

As for those other cars you listed.... If you can see your self in a FWD, mazda and this forum are for you!

In Colorado, have been in mountain, blowing snow and ice, previous DD was a VR6 GTI, better halves car is a Audi A6 Avant; first things first, the stock tires SUCK in winter (and they should, they are summer tires) get a set of winter tires ( I got a set of 17" Mazda OEMs with Blizzaks mounted from Craigslist for $500) done... it feels more at home in the snow than the GTI (which was great in snow) and other than not being able to drift sideways for long distances I wouldn't pick the Audi over it for anything but a real blizzard.

I live in canada and the speed3 with winter tires is a very good car in the snow. Nothing could stop me...even crazy deep snow. That being said, I did trade my car for an awd speed6 so that I had even better winter performance...since winter here is like 6 months...

Very predictable and very controlable in the snow. Super easy to flick around and pull out of slides with the throttle. A set of general altimax artics make driving this car in the snow way too much fun!

You got some pretty badass pictures though. With that said I knew the summer tires were bad in the snow but you literally couldn't get ANY traction at all?

around 45* summer tires start to become rock hard the compound does not react well to cold temperatures... its like driving on plastic tires lol

Tire engineers call it "glass transition temperature": Get them cold enough and the tire will have the grip of a Formica kitchen counter.

I have Conti DWS tires on atm and do fine in the snow. I would imagine winter tires would be much better, but he had a pretty good storm here. Saw all kinds of trucks and suv's stuck in the middle of the road in town, i just drove right around them no issues at all.

Only issue i have is when leaving work, its a bit of a hill out of the parking lot and it always gets iced over

DWS = DRY, WET, SNOW... so they are made to work well in snow.

a dedicated SNOW tire yes especially on ice, a tire that is rated for winter conditions but can still handle decent would be the DWS.

I have had 4 sets of snow tires they are good at one thing, SNOW and suck at most everything else in the dry, if you lived in a heavy snow area they would be great. DWS are perfect for someone who has snow one day but 50* the next.

all you need is a real turbo that does not come on boost with the touch of the pedal and the car will be great in the snow. lol
