Default Be careful reinstalling your fuel rail

Didn't use enough lube or didn't line up the fuel rail well enough. Nibbled every blue o-ring, which are $18 a piece, and add in the 2 other grommets for each injector and it becomes an expensive mistake.

Yeah, you really fuckered those up. Can you post up the part # for the blue O-Rings and phenolic spacers when you have some time? I know as more people do injector seals, we'll have more people doing what you just did, haha.

Yeah, I used engine oil.... There was a voice in the back of my head telling me to stop and go buy some o-ring assembly lube but obviously I ignored it. Wanted to get it closed up in time to mow the grass. 1/2 hour saved is going to cost me 2 days and $140. Manual indicated to lube them, but wasn't specific as to with what, and the little symbol looked like a oil can.

That's what you get for having Stevie Wonder button your shit up.

That sucks dude, but at least it's only O-rings and washers.

Is easy- Don't remove the fuel rail.....

The fuel rail doesn't come off as part of the standard IM removal process for cleaning the intake valves.

Fuel rail comes off as part of replacing the injector seals.

You gonna be ready and rolling by this weekend?

edit: @Ziggo
Yeah, but I am going to have to make a few passes to dial things in I think. I should be back up and running wendsday morning. Was intending on making a "hot" map for drag and dyno use, but might just use my standard if it's crowded and I can't get a few passes in.

It didn't feel right going on, but it's my first time assembling it so I didn't have a reference. Didn't pop on like other rails I have installed, but it's DI so I just wrote it off as being higher pressure. I buttoned it all back up, and was getting ready to verify my offset for the 3 bar an when I turned the key on I heard the squirt and smelled gasoline

Luckily the second time doing anything is much faster and it only took me an hour or so to get the manifold back off. Had the wife turn the key again, and watched it squirt from one injector and leak from the others.

I was just gonna dyno saturday, and not run the drag strip on friday, but having got new tires and fixing all the little issues with my car, I'm feeling a bit more daring.

O yeah, we were lubing them because the rail was a bitch to get back on. Anyway, no fuel leaks, car runs fine, so I am good.

Yeah I looked them up at online Mazda parts, and it came out much cheaper, but I figured the shipping will kill me. I will be able to pick them up at noon tomorrow at the dealership.

If you need stuff quick you gotta pay.

I am going to try to make it Saturday as well, I picked up a few pieces so I will be able to measure exhaust manifold pressure. Want to get some good numbers before I start messing with the timing on the cam.

Bummer man. I used engine oil on mine and the rail popped right back on, but I was super neurotic about lining it all up slowly since I messed up some of the rings installing injectors on my last car kinda like you did here.

Pressurizing the system before reinstalling the intake manifold is a really good idea though. I put mine back on before I thought, 'hey I wouldn't even be able to see a leak like this' and had to take it back off and check for peace of mind.

yea the "turn to on position and look for issues" should always be used when dealing with the fuel system. when I turned mine on after doing the seals, the return line shot off and squirted a little because it wasn't clipped over that ring. reading that back actually sounds really funny.

Shit like this is so frustrating when you're doing something, especially when it's a relatively easy job. I hope you get it all working in time for the meet, I won't be able to make it yet again. I really wish I could take the RX-7 out to it too.

Petrolium distillates and high pressure=bomb.
Then again, I don't know how much pressure these orings see.

This is what happens to your hand after someone tells you it's ok to put a couple drops of petroleum distillates in your fill nipple of your paintball tank, and you fill it to 4500 psi.

Question

It could just be high pressure air that is doesn't like.

When we did @sassyspeed3 injector seals prior to turbo install, when we pulled the fuel rail off, the plastic retainer that sits on top of the fat blue o ring shot off. Thank god it got stuck next to the starter and not lost completely. For future reference be easy when taking off the fuel rail. Other than that pretty easy install altogether.

Then again, I don't know how much pressure these orings see.
Ive never once heard of anyone blowing up from using Pet on anything dude. Its not my fault someone wanted to experiment doing the dumbest shit known to man to test the threshhold of ultimate high pressure and " pretoleum distillates" .

These o-rings dont see 5k psi.

Your good to go on using vasoline on them, it will work better than any other method you can think of, unless of course, you follow silvapains method, and just dont take them off.

I could walk out my front door and get clipped by a low flying aircraft....Likely ? No
Possible ? It sure is.

Used Vaseline reassembling as well after checking that it dissolved in gasoline and the rail slid on much easier. I should have known something wasn't working right. As a note, the "black" clip spacer is actually clear when brand new....

I didn't want to put a bunch of muck in there that wouldn't dissolve and pass thru the injectors easily and Vaseline seemed like it would dissolve in gasoline easily, being a petroleum distillate and all and it did. I understand the concern over putting it into an air gun, but its not like there isn't an explosive material in the rail to begin with, and to explode you need a fuel and air. In a pressurized air gun you have both, in the rail you just have the one.
