I've got a 2003 Mazdaspeed protege. it is turbo and everything is mainly stock. looks like a stock turbo and it has front mount, bov, boost gauge. Problem is.. at high boost which is 15psi, (i think is too much) it starts cutting out, stalling, bucking. etc possibly fuel cut. and to this day i still have not heard the wastegate open. Im not even sure if these cars have to have a tune . Idk if they come stock turbo. anyways, how do i fix?

dont those cars run only 6~7psi .... but 15psi!!! sounds like you've already damaged the engine

if you are running that much boost, it probably is boost/fuel cut. how are you controlling boost. if MBC you need to open/loosen it a bit.

id still do a compression test

well i know it doesnt have a manual or electronic boost controller and if theres another way to turn it down let me know .. because that would get rid of my fuel cut and my whole problem.

too much preload on the wastegate? can you shorten the arm on the actuator?

I have no idea.. Im pretty much lost on this one.. i just dont get why its boosting 15psi and everything is pretty much stock that i know of..

You are hitting boost cut and ingore morris as he doesn't know what he is talking bout or just a little mixed up.

Your WGA should be adjust able. What you will need to do is lengthen the rod and release tension or preload off the internal wastegate. Also check your vac line on yoru WGA. You should have a line that goes from the WGA to the intake manifold. If you have anything between the line and where ever it connects to depending on how your car is setup remove it and run just a straight vac line to the wga. Post of pics of your setup.

Holy shit, 15 lbs on a stock MSP is about 9 too much. So what Stealth said. I think a ton of engine bay pics of all that is set up is key. Do you know if you have an 03 or 03.5, and the production #?

Try Googling your VIN. It will have the Mazda list of MSP production #'s. Then go onto mazdas247.com and see if the previous owner had posted. That is my advice, as you will pot a piston through the block at that level of boost.

Good point raider! Yes OP look up your production # and try to find the previous owner and it should give more insight to whats going on with your car and history of it. Also raider knows how to get hold of me if needed.

You can tell the 03 and 03.5 by the cup holder if I am not mistaken..

Easiest way is just by the lip spoilers and the rear spoiler.
