(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Hi everyone I have a 2006 Mazda 3 2.3 with manual transmission. We just bought a new driver's CV axle which has the C-clip. Mazda3 owners manuals, repair and service manuals for "Drive Shaft Removal/Installation" (not sure what years it covers) says "clip opening facing upward". Haynes Manual 2004 thru 2011 says "Position the spring clip with the opening facing down. This will ease insertion of the driveaxle and prevent damage to the clip". Anyone know which is correct? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Get it in the hole. That’s all that matters. If it feels like you’re fighting it, you probably are damaging it. If it’s properly aligned, you should be able to slide the axle in fairly freely and “bump” it to get it to “click” in place. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Also, use a wire brush and a lint free cloth to clean off the splines, then lube them up with a little transmission fluid to make insertion easier. DO NOT use grease. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I didn't align mine in any specific way. Just like the other poster said jam it in there till it clicks. It is very important to have the axle level when inserting it since the c clip can very easily nick the axle seal in there and cause the tranny goop to leak out

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Thanks everyone, the axle is installed and went in with a couple tries without undue force. I went with "opening up" thinking that if anything the open ends would be less likely to be sticking out - but I agree it seems likely not to matter too much. It was a new axle so the clip was new/tight/not distorted. But I did follow the directions of the axle manufacturer to "center the clip with grease" to help it stay centered. But I agree that unfortunately the grease will likely just end up as goop in the transmission fluid. |
