the EGR and PCV contribute to the intake mani contamination issues delete EGR plus run an OCC between your PCV and intake mani + add an extra OEM PCV to prevent crankcase pressurization & you are golden.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Update, It's been awhile since I dumped out my OCC. But since I was installing my PG manifold, I thought I'd check up on and empty out the OCC. The clear hose has held up. Still soft. Not hardening or cracking. But I'll replace it when I get off my lazy butt. Same results as before. Just more of it. The gas stuff smells like crown royal or some crap like that. The black hose however is getting really soft. As stated in the other threads, do not use heater hose. Gotta find some better stuff. I'm sure this hose is collapsing under vacuum.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Well the first pic shows what came out first. Obviously density/layers and all that scientific stuff. After the "crown royal" came out of the OCC, then the milky stuff started to ooozzz out. Some of that oil/gunk milky stuff was in the OCC feed line. Backed up alittle bit because I haven't emptied it out in awhile. Maybe I should start my own OCC moonshine business!!

| Not Ranked : 0 score This is probably a dumb question but here goes anyway. Why is a second PCV valve needed? I looked as a couple installation instructions from OCC makers and they did not use a 2nd one. Is it a problem if the CC gets manifold pressure? Can the CC be installed between the valve cover port and the PCV valve? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Quick answer is that you don't want to expose the CC to boost pressures.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Is regular heater hose the best thing for the catch can or is there something else out there? Would a silicone heater hose be better? I just need to buy some for my install and want to use the right stuff so I dont have to come back and replace the hose at a later date. |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Regular heater hose will soften up over a course of about 2 months. Then it would just collapse whenever the hose was in vacuum. Try a hose meant for oil. It will hold up a lot better. The clear braided hose I bought from Lowes in the pics actually holds up a lot better than heater hose. But many would recommend something better that is meant for oil or fuel.

| Not Ranked : 0 score you definitely want to spend the money on a baffled can, I haven't ever seen inside an ebay catch can, but I bet that it isn't baffled. This means that oil may not stay in the can and recirculate into the system

| Not Ranked : 0 score The baffles condense the oil vapor in the can, the oil drips to the bottom and it does not go through to your intake.by including a baffle material, the vapor will tend to collect into a liquid form, otherwise it will enter the catch can freely and exit back into the intake which is not desired. The baffle will impede the flow of the vapor, allowing the oil to collect on its surface. But during this process, the vapor gives up a lot of its heat to the (metal) baffle, which makes the collection/condensation more efficient. Yes, simple gravity will catch some blow by, but that also means that a whole lot more vapor is going in and out freely. you could alway get a cheapo and modify it. (found this info on evo .net)

| Not Ranked : 0 score I used this write up to install my Elite Engineering CC. Thank you very much! I have to empty my CC every time I fill up with gas. It has made my car so much smoother. I am running heater hose that needs to be replaced. Is this hose that was mentioned above suitable? General Purpose Industrial Hose I am also VERY interested in the EGR delete. Is there a write up?

| Not Ranked : 0 score I have a couple of questions regarding Catch Cans for those who have them and know a thing or two about them: (1) Do you need a catch can if you're car is stock? I only have a COBB SRI right and may or may not install a Turbosmart BPV (direct OEM replacement) in the future. (2) Is it important to locate the OCC down low? It seems as though most people are putting it in behind the bumper where it will be a pain to drain (...put car on ramps...remove splash cover...etc, etc.). I'm sure there's a logical reason, I'm just not technically inclined enough to figure it out. If I disconnect the 5/8" hose connected to the intake manifold and find that the inside of the hose is bone dry (no oil), would you still recommend that I get an OCC? Thanks! |

| Not Ranked : 0 score mine actually didnt smoke before my catch can but after i installed the catch can and seafoamed it and took out my resonators it smokes like once every couple months now. Mines an 09, I think we are just doomed with smoking cars because our pcv system sucks. Mine only smokes when the front end is sitting lower than the backend (ie downhill) weird if you ask me.

| Not Ranked : 0 score FYI for any one you can find vacuum resistant hose on Mcmaster.com. p#5282K65 this hose is the one I used and works great. It can resist 14.5 psi of vaccum. that's 4x more the heater hose. Same hose used on Cobb's service bulletin just different color. I ordered black. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score just throwing this out there but would it be possible to connect a hose from the bottom of the OCC leaving the wing nut open and putting it through the bottom of the wheel well liner attached to another wing nut so that when you want to drain the occ all you have to do is reach under the car and turn the wing nut?

| Not Ranked : 0 score Don't want to thread jack! But I was browsing some forums and end ended up on the ozmpsclub (Ausies) mazda forums. Nevertheless, I found his pictures of his installation: Too bad this setup is useless... so for anyone who is even thinking about doing something like this- you better check yourself. | Not Ranked : 0 score Oh, BTW, I dunno how or why some of you guys are actually getting liquid into your catch can.... I checked mine after installing it the first time about 3 weeks later or longer and the baby was all dried up.... I have lots of foam loaded into the catch can... which helps capture the tiny particles and any oil that gets in there, and that shit simply dries out due to the engine bays temperature. I have the Perrin OCC which has a clear hose coming from top to bottom to show you that you're actually getting something inside of it. I am currently working on shortening the hoses and mounting the OCC somewhere else. Last edited by trickytwelveinch; 06-21-2009 at 02:48 PM. |
