Default Oil Spin On/ Sammich Plate How-to

So I know we have a spin on write up but I think some of the pictures got lost in the crash back in the day. So last week we decided we needed to get going on the shop car and install some gauges that have been laying around for a while.

First you want to drain your oil. After that remove the canister and as well as the let all the oil sensor pressure so you have greater access to the 4 bolts you have to remove.

This picture shows the oil pressure sensor removed.

After that remove the 4 bolts that hold the oil cooler on they are 10mm iirc

The biggest challenge you will have is getting off the drivers side top bolt but if you use a wobble extension on a 1/4 inch drive it will get to it will ease.

Once you have those out pull the the oil cooler down and take off the bolt that holds it in place. That will be a 15mm on the top of the cooler, here is a picture.

Once you take that out the cooler will be able to come off.

Next we got out sammich plate and spin on conversion ready with all the plugs. Leave the sensors off till last so they dont get in the way of putting everything back on. Make sure and use thread sealant liquid and not teflon tape on these fittings

After all that re-install in reverse order and this is what the final product should look like.

The only thing i would add, and this was only my personal experience with the MS6. when removing the oil cooling module on top the oil dongle, you can reach it from the top of the engine very front in between the block and radiator. just look for that 15mm bolt on top, it is VERY easily accessible this way and a extension on your socket wrench, loosen it before you take the bolts off the original oil "dongle". it was a PITA to try to loosen it after the original dongle was off, just couldn't get enough Torque to break it loose.

Also the Gasket that goes from the cooling system to the new spin on, make sure your gasket is seeded right, it has dots on it for the cooling system, if you dont get those lined up you will have a very very slow yet annoying leak between the spin on and cooling system.

I just want to clear a couple things up because I'm fucked up that way.

The aluminum part that bolts to the block is the housing. The black part attached to the top of the housing is the oil cooler.

Try to loosen that 15mm oil cooler bolt before you remove the housing. It's a bitch when it's off due to lack of leverage. Plus, it's on there pretty tight.

Also, if you are using teflon tape on the sandwich plate fittings, be sure to set it back about 3 or 4 threads from the tip to ensure it doesn't get into your oil.

Anybody do this and have their oil cooler gasket look like this??? If so, did ya reuse it and was it OK? I got into an accident and oil was leaking from my oil cooler, but I'm curious if it was just knocked loose as the bolt holding it on was not hard to get off at all, or if this is a no go and I need a new oil cooler

There's a thread you can find by searching "spin on" i saw here.

A guy did his spin on and was leaking after, he took it off and looked at it and found the O-ring was severed in the outer right, it lookede like it fit just right otherwise.

But that tiny little thing caused the leak.

Necro Posting here, but could you possibly refresh this post so the pictures are viewable again. I bought this spin-on kit a month ago and about to attempt the install and would love to see the pics.

"off to youtube for a video"

@APEXistud;

Try this. The pics in this thread works for me. Someone else posted the link info on here, not my find
