Default Slave Cylinder Line Clip

I have a 2006 Mazda3 2.3L. Just replaced the slave cylinder. I have inserted the hydraulic line fully into the port on the new slave. I can get the clip started in the groove on the slave cylinder but can't push it through the groove on the rubber bushing on the line. How much force should it take? Too much force and I will just bend the clip.

Well this is embarrassing. I was trying to put the clip in from the side. It only goes in from the end near the bleed screw. Once we realized that: push the grommet on the line in firmly and insert the clip in the groove fairly easily. In my defense it came from Mazda inserted in the side. I guess it stays in better for shipping or something, but it sure confused me.
