| Not Ranked : 0 score yes the nano is the short ram intake!! and no...you will not need a tune with those mods you mention. the factory ecu is more than capable of figuring that all out. however.... a tune would be a wonderful way to balance things out and still make even MORE power if you wanted it.... |

| Not Ranked : 0 score well reply to your self a few times in this thread... (i dont get that rule) the inlet pipe is in between the SRI and the inlet of the turbo. the stock inlet pipe is a pancaked, pinched, tiny lil thing that just screams replace me with something less restrictive. faster spool time.. i agree... replace both at the same time. might as well

| Not Ranked : 0 score Yeah I have to deal with that rule too. I don't understand it. I guess it's so people can't register and just harass people but it's kind of annoying when you're trying to legitimately contact someone to purchase things. |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score dood. i started this thread. i dont give a flying flip if you do all 15 posts on here if it suits you. its retarded that people actually get upset about it. how does it effect them? anyway, im stoked to get this first mod done. when i got the car, i told myself i wasnt gonna do anything except motor mounts until the warranty was up. not the case. i installed an oem coinholder and after that, i decided i NEED some power mods. anyway, i see future paychecks going into my ride. now if palerider would just pm me back so we can get the ball rollin! |

A metric socket set, consisting of (at least):
A screwdriver set (size 0, 1, and 2 phillips, and two or more flathead sizes) A metric box wrench set, from 10mm-19mm (I prefer Gearwrenches or the equivalent) Needlenose pliers slip-joint or linemans pliers water pump pliers (medium, about 3" max opening) one or two vise grips (small to medium) And, if you want to add more necessary tools later on (or as projects demand), consider the following: 3/8" drive torque wrench (the largest range you can find - remember, the top and bottom 15% or so can't be considered accurate) 1/4" driver handle (to turn your 1/4" sockets into a nutdriver) T handle allen wrenches (metric, of course) deadblow hammer Mechanix Gloves Don't forget a box or bag to store it all in! You can probably outfit yourself quite well for all your DIY car needs for under $200, including the bag and gloves. For example, here is a potential shopping list from Sears. Craftsman 140 pc. Mechanics Tool Set, Metric - Model 33941 at Sears.com That set is $199, but I've often seen them on sale for at least 25% off. Add in a basic screwdriver set, some pliers, and a bag/box and you're good to go. If you want a more economical solution, you can nickel and dime together a quality set of tools by picking and choosing just the necessities, like this: $53.99 Metric gear wrenches $35.99 Metric socket set $9.99 Screwdriver set $15.99 Pliers set $11.99 Metric allen keys $7.99 Tool bag There you go. For a grand total of $135.94 plus tax you've got everything you need for a good 80% of the do it yourself installation/maintenance you'll do on this car. If you want to spend even less, get a slightly more complete socket set and skip the wrenches for now (I worked on all three of my VWs with nothing more than a Husky 3/8" drive socket set and some cheap harbor freight wrenches, screwdrivers, and pliers for years - and I still carry the same Husky socket set in my MS3's tool set). Why bother with decent tools? Any crappy tools from the tool show/gun show/flea market/harbor freight/etc. will let you do the job once, but good tools will last forever - at the very least, longer than your car. PS - I'm not knocking on Harbor Freight, as I have found tools ranging in quality from abysmal to quite good on the shelves. In fact, my current set of deep well 3/8" drive sockets and gear wrenches came from Harbor Freight, and have held up quite well to use and abuse. You simply need to know what you're looking for (and at) when you're shopping there. I find it easier to steer a newbie toward known consumer-level quality, such as Craftsman, Husky, or Kobalt. I'm not about to suggest that someone that may not be mechanically competent go out and spend $15k on professional tools from MAC, Snap-On, or the like... as much as I might want them myself. | |

| Not Ranked : 0 score If you were a noob, I'm a supernoob - what is "cp-e," "cp-e nano sri," "nviscid inlet," "standback," and pnp harness. Does randy have a website or anything like that? Thanks for your ideas, guess what happened this morning...I jump in my car and the engine light is on - at 6200 miles. Luckily I sell Mazdas (at a Mazda dealer) and the service dept is right around the corner (and its free), but still a bit unsettling, so I may hold off now. As soon as I got the bug too.... Dave
