Default cp-e stage 2 RMM Review/walkthrough

I installed the cp-e stage 2 RMM on 3/10/12

You have to admit that right out of the box this is a really nice looking setup.

The "wishbone" RMM bushing has been deleted and is just one solid piece.

This then connects to a reworked bracket where they fitted a larger bushing. This bushing is mounted vertically, this allows movement in only 1 direction. rather than the back and forth movement of the traditional mount
Stock bracket:

New bracket:

This is the mount fully assembled:

Now onto installation:
You must remove the existing RMM.(Obviously) This is the stock bracket with the cp-e stage 1 RMM

First remove the 3 19mm bolts from this bracket:

Then remove the 17mm bolt that connects the bracket and RMM:

Then remove the vertical 17mm bolt:

The RMM should just slip out now. With the cp-e logo facing down.
Slide the new solid RMM into place:

screw the OEM 17mm bolt in. I used red locktite as added security. DO NOT Tighten all the way yet. Leave it loose so it's easier to attach to the bracket

Attach the new bracket with the larger bushing with the 3 OEM 19mm bolts. Again, I used red locktite for added security. Do not tighten these all the way either. Leave them loose to help make for an easier installation:

Attach the new bracket and solid RMM together using the M12 X 1.75 x120mm bolt. Place one of the larger 1/2" washers on the bolt then slide the bolt through the RMM and new bracket piece, place the second larger 1/2" washer on the other end, then the 1/2" split lock washer then finally the M12 x 1.75 nut. Again I used red locktite as added security.

Go ahead and tighten all the bolts. I've read you guys torque these bolts down anywhere from 70-90ft/lbs. I went 85 on all 5 bolts.

Initial review: 3/12/12
I will admit I was VERY skeptical that this would make any difference at all, but after driving for 2 days on this I am really impressed. I've had 3 different mounts on my car before this one, not naming names, but I first had inserts which were ok. Then moved on to a dogbone type mount which was really good, but the vibrations were pretty bad and I'm all for function, but this would have eventually led to loose pieces on interior pieces rattles etc. Then to the cp-e stage 1 mount, not as stiff as the dogbone, BUT just as good with less vibes and just a little less stiff. The dogbone and cp-e mount reduced wheel hop a HUGE amount, there was still some, but not much and not often. Power transfer was really good with these 2 mounts also. Almost instant.
Which brings me to the Stage 2 cp-e RMM, when I first started the car I could feel that this would be a fun first drive. I drove around a bit to get the engine warmed up and to see if I had forgotten to tighten anything. The first real launch was amazing. no wheel hop, it was like a combination of the stage 1 RMM and dogbone mount. Best of both worlds. A few launches and a bunch of 30, 45, and 60mph pulls all my skepticism disappeared. I Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a RMM or to upgrade theirs. Call me biased, but come drive my car and feel for yourself. You'll be sold.

No I thought the same thing the wishbone is too wide so it can fit around the bushing.

I have this too I really like it also vibs are about the same as a regular 75 Duro mount but shifting is much improved.

It's a nice looking piece that's for sure.
Did they redesign because of failures? Every original rmm I see the bushing is beat up pretty good. It's still intact and works but it looks like it gets hit hard.
I have the original and was wondering how this would help me.

Just threw my new stg 2 mount in last night.. (had the old cpe 75) My old mount looks perfect after about a year and a half years and A LOT of track days.. So theres something to be said about that..

Quality of these are top notch to be expected.. everything went right in.. no issues.. a little red loctite and was back on the road.
Initial impression after about 20 miles is that this mount does have more vibes initially.. So we'll see how much it settles down.. But there is an improved "connected" feel even over the old 75 duro.
So far so good.. im satisfied..
Now onto the new side mounts..

Just a heads up:

Several of us that have installed this mount found that after a few days a few of the the bushing retaining screws had started to work themselves loose. A little blue Loctite solved the issue.

I am looking to possibly purchase this. I'm just trying to get feedback right now on vibrations at idle with A/C on. I read another post saying "practically imperceptible." What are your thoughts?

I wouldn't say that but I will say its an improvement over the Stage 1 mount. I don't use the A/C much though so I'm not used to the extra vibs which are minimal.

I have my stage 2 sitting in a box on the kitchen table. Still haven't decided where I want to go with this... I'm interested in the vibes mostly. I think its an interesting design and I can understand why the 1st generation could have been susceptible to fail.

They're there, but not rattle your brains out. Its a very mild vibration.

If you have AP/ATR, you can bump up idle rpm (with and without AC) as well. Stock idle without AC is 700 and idle with AC is 750. Can bump up idle without AC to 750 to match with AC or raise both up a little higher as well.

Ok, the mount is in. Install took about 10 minutes. It could have been 5 but CP-E had the wrong bolt in the kit (larger diameter than hole). Granted I had a lift and impact to work with, being that I work for a dealership.

Initial thoughts:
Rough start up, and very noticeable, but at idle the vibes are miniscule; not aggravating the least bit, but not like the stock mount. Its like "Hi, I'm here".

These views are coming from a picky person who has not had an aftermarket motor mount on a car.

Test Drive:
Taking off from a dead-stop, the vibes are very noticeable again at 1000rpm, but once you break past that first push on the throttle, they are pretty layed back. Again, not aggravating but definitely there. Under hard acceleration, vibes remained, but nothing irritating. Kind of a good feeling. Racecar motherfucker!

Shifting was godly. It felt like how a car should feel. No rock at all from the motor, no knock every shift, no sounding like your shit is gonna fall apart everytime you push in the clutch.

Deceleration felt awesome too, it didn't bog and jerk like it did with the stock mount if you just up and let off the gas in 2nd. Felt nice and smooth. Again, the way a car should feel, but better.

Complaint: Reverse underload. Backing into my spot which is a very very subtle incline caused pretty aggressive vibes. However when backing out of the lift at work on a flat surface, the vibes were the same as accelerating slowly.

1000rpm in first is pretty aggressive, but its over quickly.

Bottom line:
Honestly, I always felt like I couldn't be rough on this car, like it couldn't take a beating. Shifting and feeling the knock and shit always left me with the impression that this car is a frail bitch. I always felt like it needed to be babied or it was going to break. Installing the mount changed my opinion of that. I feel like the car is ready to be driven hard if I choose to, granted I still baby it compared to most.

And the best part about the whole thing: If you decide the vibes are too irritating to you, you can wash the sand out of your vag.... Lol, J/k. Its easy as hell to put on and take off. So if you don't like it, in 15 minutes you can have it off and your new mount on.

And @Captain KR No pics, it didn't happen:

it'll calm down too, just based off all the RMMs i've tried. first few hundred miles are rough, then it calms down. also, try revving the engine above 1k before you let out the clutch all the way, you'll have less of the 'shudders' you get in 1st and reverse..

So you got the wrong bolt too? Mine wasn't long enough which is funny you got a bolt that was too big.

Good to hear you like the mount. The vibs die down pretty quickly. My wife didn't even know the difference.

I have had this mount for awhile... the 'dogbone' has different size of 'bushings' on each side, on mine (which was supposedly reversed due to a manufacturing mistake) I ended up with the smaller 'bushing' facing down.

From the pics I seen in this thread I wonder if I f-d up after all and turned it the wrong way

Will this rear motor mount void my warranty? My car has less than 400 miles on it. Do I need this mod? I do not really want to mod my car at all but this seems like it is needed. True?

I have 2 quick points for you:

1. If you don't want to mod your car..... WHY, IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, ARE YOU FUCKING HERE!?!?!?!?!?!?!

2. If you aren't modding your car, WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU WORRY ABOUT UPGRADING ANYTHING?!?!

If you're worried about your warranty, it's easy enough to take off and put the stock one back if you have to take it to the dealer.

It takes all of ~5 minutes once you get under the car.

This is pretty much the only mod you need right? I saw the engine in the speed3 move back and forth on a youtube video. Ive read about peoples engines smacking the firewall. This mod will prevent that and will also make my car more reliable-correct? How long until this part would need to be replaced-ie in 50,000 miles?

Thank you guys

Some people have never had an issue with the stock mounts. Others have. This will not make your car any more reliable than if you kept the stock mounts. If you plan on modifying your car, I'd pick this mount up.

For a lesser price, you could get a cheaper mount with similar results; if you're going to stay relatively stock.

Thank you guys
There's no be all end all mod. Yes the stock mounts are pretty flimsy, this will help prevent most of the engine movement. Just keep in mind that there are 2 other mounts. You stiffen one up movement will be transfered to the others.
There's no real long term testing on this, BUT I think @Grumpyjap has gone about 10-15k miles on this including some track use without any issue. I'm sure he'll chime in with his findings.

Yeah I've gone at least 10K mile on this stage 2 mount with no problems. Once it cools down I will take it out and post pictures.

Hey I am New City in Rockland and new to the area, I just finished my contract with the army (was stationed at Fort Riley, KS). I am pretty new to the MS3 scene, I purchased my 07 MS3 GT last Oct. I'm trying to find out about any car meets or clubs In the Orange County and/or Rockland area. I messaged you because you seem knowledgeable and active on the forum so I figured you wold know a thing or two. Thanks for your time.

Mazdaspeeds in the hudson valley are very few. Its really hard to get a meet going. BUT once a year, usually early spring I hold a big Mazda meet at Orange County Choppers. Usually get at least 200 mazdas here with vendors and a bunch of raffle prizes.

I received my Stage 2 RMM today and will be installing tomorrow. Not sure why but I went with the black mount...I know you'll never see it but it gives me piece of mind black mount & black car FTW! Can't wait to install...just hope I remember where the torque wrench is in storage since we just moved.

Got mine installed today and I definitely recommend. Vibes aren't super harsh, noise is actually pleasant. Feels like and sounds like a DD. But launches and shifts like a track car. Racecar biz notch
