CPE Triton exhaust So I love the way this exhaust sounds, I can't seem to find any sound clips of the exhaust with the added muffler option and how much quieter it makes the exhaust. I live in CA with the stupid noise laws and the "must have a muffler" nonsense... (i really need to move...) is there any sound clips or videos of the setup with added muffler option? |
This came up a year or so I guess and I think at the time they had only sold one with the muffler option. There weren't any videos at the time. I doubt there have been many more sales since then |
@sh4d0w; is the man and added a muffler similar to their muffler option. If you don't like your ears bleeding everytime you cold start it i'd recommend the muffler option. There's also some links in that thread to video clips with/without the muffler. Sound is basically unchanged with the exception of amplitude. http://www.mazdaspeedforum.org/forum/foru...d-help-190957/ |

Honestly I did my three after the exhaust install and the motor mounts added enough cabin noise where i don't usually notice the exhaust and my Triton doesn't have the muffler. I'll probably add the muffler to my Triton exhaust at some point but that will be mostly for my neighbor's benefit. |

Thanks MD1032, I wish I didn't have to put a muffler on it but even so, I love the sound. It will also save me the headache of if I get a stupid smog station that wants to do a visual and won't see a muffler. Better to be safe than sorry. |
Hey, have you looked into adding a Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator? Just added one to mine yesterday cause the droning at highway speeds was giving me a headache on long trips. Makes a world of difference but still maintains the aggressive tone |

I was thinking about doing the same thing. But I have both cats at the moment. So adding the resonator would be my test pipe. Did it effect the sound at wot? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I just ordered my tirton CBE while it was 20% off, i'll be getting the CS catless racepipe. I don't think i'll mind the drone very much, but we'll see. I did opt to get the added muffler. |
I don't think the cpe triton will mate up to anything other than the cpe or stock downpipes. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk |
1 Attachment(s) I thought the same and had inquired CS about it, I asked specifically if the racepipe they offered would fit between a stock DP and the triton CBE. If I get it and it doesn't fit then i'll just return it. |
Weird, they must replicate the stock flange style. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk |

If you ever go to a 3" catless dp and rp, even into the stock CBE, the drone will produce severe headaches in a daily driver, especially when decelerating or cruising in the 2800-3200 rpm range. My solution was the Vibrant Ultraquiet reso welded into the middle of the race pipe. It is straight through design, so no measurable power loss, but is heavily encased in sound deadening material. Result: Drone is gone. Power not reduced. Aggressive growl at WOT but without excessive volume. Win-win-win. |
I'll definitely keep that in mind once I can get around smog laws |

That exhaust had the muffler removed when Rob sent it to me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I bought it with the muffler just to be on the "safe side" for california's gay laws, but I may end up just chopping it off. we'll see how things go once I get it installed. |
If you ever decide to go the unmuffled route I'll trade you my unmuffled version! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk |
I have the cp-e exhaust with the added muffler and I love it. I have heard a speed3 with a cp-e exhaust minus the added muffler and honestly it sounded raspy to me and it had a stock catalytic converter and a test pipe. My car I am running a catless down pipe and a test pipe and it is loud but it is not raspy it has a nice deep unique tone to it. |

1. change the dp out everytime i need to get smogged 2. find a loophole on how to get around smog.... (highly unlikely without having bookoo's of bucks) I went with the UR testpipe with high flow resonator. I'm just hoping it won't silence the thing completely :( If anything I can always get a straight testpipe later on if I want more, but we'll start the safe route first. |

I have a cpe catted downpipe which is a long downpipe so there is no race/test pipe to speak of. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk |
One of the only exhausts without excessive drone, imo. |

I don't have smog where I live and I really only went catted to stop boost creep. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk |
#CP-Esavedmylife ! During my exhaust install, the bolts supplied with the UR TP were screwed up and weren't threaded correctly, luckily CP-E supplies two bolts, nuts, and washers that worked great! Real life saver for sure! Also to include, when they suggest a "helping hand" as one of the tools.. they mean it, took me 5 hours to install the exhaust by myself without a lift. There was some troubleshooting with the Z-pipe to make fit correctly since it had a slight bend on one of the openings making it not round, but I managed to make it work! |
I installed the UR Resonated test pipe along with a Mazdaspeed Accessories Cat back and its quiet with the windows up but once they are down it sounds pretty good. If your set up is too loud in the end i'd recommend the resonated test pipe. |
I love my setup, I did get the high flow resonated testpipe along with the added muffler option on the CP-E Dual Triton exhaust. Sounds great! |
I have the cp-e triton cbe with no muffler and a test pipe, I mean its loud especially at cold start but I've never been hassled by my neighbors or any cops and I live in a small quiet town in Cali Edit: I plan on getting a resonated test pipe just because I commute 80 miles a day and would like it to be a little quieter |
