Default Diff mount

I just called today and talked to Jordin about the MS6 diff mount. I was told they were being welded up this week, should be at powdercoaters next week and shipping in about two weeks.

Funny thing, I called one month ago today (Sept 8) and talked to Josh. I was told by Josh that they were being welded up *that* week, and they would be at the powdercoaters a week from then, and would be shipping in about two weeks from then.

Actually if I remember correctly they were being welded in july. I have been waiting a while for this to hit the market so I hope after all the welding they have done that it is worth the wait.

Tell me those bushing housings will fit the TT bushings (stock size), PLEASE!!!!

That looks strong a hell! You guys need a test fitter? I've been needing to get one of those in for a looooong time now. My TT mount and bushings have been riding in the back seat since I got them in the GB over a year ago! As well as my sway bar and endlinks, lol!

Can someone explain to me what I'm not getting -- how long can this thing take? Its a fucking plate and a couple of sleeves. How long can that take?

Sure, I know you gotta measure it accurately. With a caliper that should take, what, an hour maybe? Then you draft it up, and that would take, what, a half day? (And, yes, I do know how to use a caliper and draw a drawing in AutoCad, so, I'm not just talking out my ass.) And you of course need the tooling to cut that thick of metal, which presumably CPE either has inhouse or has a subcontractor that does. So, I just can't for the life of me understand how it could take so long to make the part.

dude how long did it take you to get your TIP out the door? 4 months? like 8 total people work at CPE (including paula who works at the front desk.) so 7 total. Lou works at the "NSA" and comes in AFTER he gets off from his regular job. considering hes mainly electronics only that leaves 6 people. josh does most of the finances and a little bit of R&D. so now what are we at 5? CPE sent these out to a laser cutter which took forever and what caused most of the hold up. they also had to do R&D on this and get it to fit perfectly. SU already fucked up as people noticed their diff mount diddent fit right and now they have diff whine because of it. CPE also had problems pourring the rubber so thats another thing. they are also just releasing the NANO and the silicone TIP. so if 1 person is working on each of those were at 3 people left. now we have to fill orders from people who want DP's, and CBE's and the like. these are all hand made and takes alot of preciseness and hand welding and QC. CPE just doesent release half ass shit and everyone knows it.

still wondering?

Actually longer, from the time I first started talking about it. But, I've never been a manufacturer before, and had no manufacturing contacts. But it did take me like an hour to measure the stock, and less than 1/2 a day to draw it. The rest of the time was finding a supplier that could mandrel bend 2 3/8" pipe, and waiting on him to do it.

Edit:

Okay, if it takes special machines to cut that metal, well, that can make some sense. But, if that's what they were waiting on, why did I get on Sept 8 "they are being welded up right now" and on Oct 8 "they are being welded up now" and today we got a post "they are being welded up now"?

Nah, I've got bad news on both fronts Andy. We actually test fit the diff mount nearly a year ago on dadas car. I think the prototype may still be on his car.

Also, the size of the bushings we chose are not stock, and were more or less a matter of convenience. Sorry boss.

I imagine that's because we intended on welding the things up several times, and then decided not to because we wanted to improve the welding fixture. I'll explain more...

If you're ever in the Maryland area I'd love for you to come down and check out our operation, especially since it sounds like you're into manufacturing.

Our design process was a little more complicated than the one you suggest. We had the original mount digitzed using a local cooridnate measuring machine and then imported the data into CAD. We then drew several proposals of the mount and optimized the designs using an FEA package. Then I had to draw and machine the welding fixture, which which was totally designed in CAD and CNC'd on our mill (this was a first at the time for us). Once the fixture was pretty much finalized we had the pieces of the diff mount laser cut, which took time to get here. Now Anthony is programming our automated welding robots to weld up all of the mounts. So it was more complicated than using a pair of calipers and AutoCad to make the thing.

Why has it taken us so long? Because we're incredibly busy with all of our various projects, and this project was far from straightforard considering our manufacturing goals. We planned on welding the diff mounts up several times, and then decided to take a step back and improve our welding fixture. We fully realized that we were upsetting people and losing sales by delaying the project, but we'd rather delay the project in order to produce a higher quality example than rush something out just to make a sale. So I'm sorry that this has taken exceptionally long time to make, but we're doing the best we can. As I said, if you're ever in the area I'd love to show you what it took to make this thing!

CPE just doesent release half ass shit and everyone knows it.

still wondering?
sorry to thread jack but how many people did we eff up on? Do you have one on your car?

jmhinkle is the only reported "incident" and that is to say the least. He is one of 25 and I have no returned phone calls or questions about whining diffs. If you could please direct me to the rest I will happily call them to sort out their "problems."

I commend him for bringing this to our attention I thank him for his attention to detail and we addressed the problem.

Back on topic. Jordan that piece looks very nice. I can't wait to see the final product.

Not quite the complete truth. You have 2 reported problems. Mine (jmhinkle) and MSP6COP's were both off. I have the pre-production unit on my car and it was a better (but not ideal) fit than the actual production unit that went on MSP6COP's car. That piece was an absolute nightmare. I managed to get both diff mounts and the whiteline RSB on in about 3.5 hours on my car by myself. It took both me and Matt 7 hours to get just his 2 diff mounts on and we almost gave up twice. We probably should have truthfully so his could have been exchanged. There is definite loading on the bolts and I'm not sure what problems it will cause in the long run. I was definitely more impressed with the pre-production piece than the actual production one. I'm glad you guys did take the information I supplied and fixed the problem. I will say that the 4 wheel burn outs and power slides have been awesome ever since on my car. I'm not sure if Matt has ever launched his car yet. You can see your product being tested in my sig.

no offense at you mark but when jmhinkle makes a detailed post about problems with a diff mount and then you dont hear anything good from the other 24 (or 23) people who bought them then it leads you to believe the product is bad. this is the only info i heard about it.

Thanks for the compliments on the sigs guys. They are courtesy of Djuosnteisn from 6club. He is quite good with the camera. He took a bunch of wicked picks for me and made some sigs out of some too.

Mark, thank you. The two were actually posted in my same thread, but you might have not noticed it was two seperate since I was posted about both installs that I did. Either way, you guys say you stepped up to the plate and fixed the problem and that's a great thing. I do wish others would speak up with their experience on the part. It definitely does the job.

Sorry to thread jack as well. I didn't realize this was in the CP-e section. I just look at titles and start reading and posting.

I don't remember you posting that SU fixed it, though maybe you did, 6club wasn't sending post notifications for a while. At any rate, you might check to be sure that everybody knows it is fixed.

I just called CPE. I was told that the bushings are being installed and hope to start shipping either just before Thanksgiving, or, probably early next week. Of course, on another forum, somebody else called a week ago and got approx the same story, that they should have already been shipping.

So, it was "in about 2 weeks" when I called in September. And "in about 2 weeks" when I called in October. And "end of week or early next week" last week, and "end of week or early next week" this week. So, we should be able to plot that out and come up with the actual ship date...

Thanksgiving 2011.

They've been working on this since 2006. It's sad that it didn't get a higher priority considering it's actually NEEDED on every one of these cars, stock or not. I think I'll go with SU. They have a higher durometer. It's steel too, so it's not going to break. I just wish I could get one with 95 durometer, instead of 55 or 70. Then again, I could always get one custom made

I've tried to be as honest as I can about our timeline, and I've never said anything was ever set in stone. I've tried to give you my best estimates, but if you're going to grill me when we don't meet our estimates, then we won't be giving them out anymore. You posted the same negative message FIVE times in a row as if that's going to help in some way (and more on Mazda6club). Your point is clear to us, I promise.

The fact is, the same gentleman that is pinning our engine mounts is also pinning our diff mounts. So he's got literally hundreds of bushings to pin, and we didn't foresee this hangup weeks ago. We're sorry. And we do make mistakes and misjudgements occasionally.

If you're so tired of waiting then I encourage you to cancel your order if you have one with us. We haven't taken a single dollar from you, and you can buy a diff mount immediately from SU here:

They have a higher durometer. It's steel too, so it's not going to break. I just wish I could get one with 95 durometer, instead of 55 or 70. Then again, I could always get one custom made

Andy, sometimes I wish I could bop you over the head through the internet man.

We didn't start this project in 2006, and I have no idea where you're getting your information from. I started designing the mount in CAD back in June 2007.

Please help the MS6 community solidify our rear diff! - Mazda6 / Atenza

Secondly, since when is our diff mount not steel?

Lastly, this has never, EVER been a hot product. Since the project was announced last year, we've received 4 pre-orders. Now, we don't take people's money for pre-orders, so if anyone was serious about ordering a diff mount from us, they'd place a pre-order since that saves a place in line for them. I checked, and despite how much you want this diff mount, you never placed a pre-order. If people don't place pre-orders, then we assume they're not serious about buying the product. By contrast, we had over 200 MS3 engine mount pre-orders as of last month. You do the math.

So I can sit here and offer more apologies for our mistakes, but I feel like some people are angry just to be angry, no matter what the facts are. To everyone else that has actually placed a pre-order and is waiting patiently, thank you for bearing with us. We'll have those mounts out just as soon as humanly possible, which should hopefully be before Thanksgiving.

Well, that might be because your site doesn't yet list a price for it. You haven't been pushing people to pre-order, which is good, since you haven't had a product yet. But, I don't think you can judge product demand given that you haven't really been trying to sell it yet. Once people start getting their hands on this thing, I suspect you will have a fair amount of demand.

Your MS3 mount, well, you have a price for it, and you have sold some of them. And it fits regular 3's as well. In fact, I have one on order for my wife's regular 3. So, its not really an apples to apples comparison.

Sorry J. I thought you had mentioned something to me long ago in a PM over on 6club that it was coming up on your platter, maybe in one of our conversations about the FMIC. I never said yours wasn't steel. I said SU's was steel too, meaning also. I wouldn't judge demand by the pre-orders alone IMO. You know how stingey the speed 6 crowd is, lol. We don't want to commit until we see all the details, but when it's released, things fly off the shelves. Did you see what happened when Turbine Tech released the forward diff mount? At least 60-70 were sold in each of the initial GBs!

Just sayin.

By the way, I wouldn't say I'm "angry" so to speak, somewhat frustrated. But, you tell me, wouldn't you be? If you called one of your suppliers early September, and they said about 2 weeks, and its now end of November, wouldn't you be frustrated at the vendor?

Also, I've had on order for a while a 3 motor mount, for my wife's car. And I've gotten a number of poor estimates on that as well. So, again, wouldn't you be a little annoyed?

That said, I know you make good products, and I look forward to (eventually) receiving the products.
