Not Ranked : 0 score Just wondering how much thought was put into why the bolt is pointing front to back instead of side to side. And if it would even make a difference side to side. My Medieval mount is settling down pretty well, but I wonder if the bolt orientation would make much of a difference.

Not Ranked : 0 score Awesome work! Looks to be a perfect solution for my spring birthday present ![]() One question/concern, is there going to be a flange to the bushing or will it end at the edge of the bushing housing? The reason I ask is that under hard load, could the bushing deflect enough to allow the housing to contact the bracket.

We won't be changing the design of the mounts because it is correct. I will go into more detail about the bushing orientation in the next couple days, but not now (I'm under fire to get some manifold flanges done...). When I have a moment, I'll post some comments as to why our orientation is ideal. Sorry if any of this is unclear; as i am not the best with words (like Jordan is ). If you have any more questions about the above, I'll be glad to answer them, or maybe Jordan will chime in and help me out | ||

Not Ranked : 0 score Thanks for the props guys! I sat down with Jordan today, and we (more him than me, thank you j dizzo) discussed the best way to explain why the mounts are oriented the way they are. Interestingly, the few side engine mounts on the market are strikingly different solutions for the same problem. From the materials used to the bushing arrangement, they’re different in many respects. However, when people choose which engine mount they’re going to buy, they may not have the technical ability to evaluate the mounts to determine which is best for their application. Of course, an engine mount for a drag racer may not be the best choice for a daily driver. So let’s talk about side engine mounts, and I’ll explain why our mounts are designed the way they are. There’s been a lot of discussion about our choice to orient the bushings the way we did. A lot of people will tell you that there’s one “proper” way to orient the bushings for this kind of application, but the reality is that if the mounts keep the engine in place, and are comfortable, then the mounts are a solid design. Why does the motor move at all??? Well, Newton’s third law of motion says, “For every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction.” That applies here because we’re exerting a force on the crankshaft, which in turn pushes back on the engine. So when the engine pushes down on the crankshaft, the crankshaft pushes back up on the engine. To illustrate this point, if you fixed the motion of the crankshaft and hooked the starter up to the engine, you could run the engine by spinning the engine block around the crankshaft! So understand that the engine naturally wants to rotate around the crankshaft, and the engine mounts keeps the engine fixed in place. Otherwise the wheels would stay still and the engine would spin If you consider how the engine is suspended in the vehicle, it’s basically like a pendulum. There are two mounts at both sides of the top of the engine. As you can imagine, if you were to push in the bottom of the engine, it’ll swing. So we use a third mount at the bottom of the engine which eliminates the swinging motion. Simply said, the top mounts keep the engine in place, and the bottom mount keeps it from swinging. When the engine “torques” it wants to rotate the top of the engine towards the firewall. Now, if both top bushings are arranged axially (the bolts go through the bushing laterally) then the reaction force of the engine rocking will push down and back towards the firewall. In this case the majority of the force is being used to compress the bushings. So this arrangement will work just fine in most cases. On the other hand our driver’s side engine mount bushings face front to back not because it’s stronger per se, but because it offers us more dampening than the other orientation. First of all, compare the size of our EPDM rubber bushing to the other bushings on the market. You’ll immediately notice that ours is much much larger, and the reason is we use that extra rubber to help dampen engine movement, instead of just stopping it, which is rough on the mount itself, and the frame. The large mass of rubber provides resistance to engine movement without being harsh, but let’s look back at our swinging engine example with mount bushings rotated 90° from each other. Now, when the engine rocks it wants to rotate around the crankshaft, which will push down and back on the bushings. That means the majority of the force is going to be along the axis of the bushing, which is long at 3.5-inches. So the engine effectively has 3.5” of rubber to compress when it torques, and we know that more rubber will provide more dampening. As you can imagine, a sheet of rubber won’t dampen a small vibration as much as a rubber block would. The same principal applies here. If the amount of material for the bushing wasn’t of concern then we’d use the smallest bushing possible. But we’ve also oriented the bushing so that it has the most dampening ability possible. In summary, the engine mount we’re producing is designed to replace the factory Mazda mounts because they fail even at stock power levels. Our mounts are CNC machined from blocks billet aluminum so they won’t break under power, and they also feature our popular EPDM rubber bushings. So if you want the most comfortable ride and the strongest mounts (which is often times difficult to accomplish) then you’ll consider all three of our aluminum and EPDM mounts. Ah, and one more thing before I forget. The bushing orientation is not unique to our design, and there are many other successful variations. ![]() The important point here is that the engine mounts keep the motor in place, and that the resulting vibrations are not too obtrusive to the driver. Hope that helps answer a few questions!

Not Ranked : 0 score as soon as fucking possible... i just finished designing the welding fixtures for the robots. the prototype steel parts will be in soon, and if the bushing guy doesn't get his ass in gear, i may spin out some delrin mounts just to test fitment in a car. trust me dude, it is in my best interest to get these out ASAP. I am trying my hardest, even working at home!

Not Ranked : 0 score fixture for robotic welding - design done, material picked up yesterday. i will machine all fixture parts and will probably be done with that mid next week. we expect to have proto laser parts mid next week, and we will hand weld the first proto parts. bushing guy has long ass lead time, so i will probably go to metal store and buy some delrin and spin out some mock bushings for test fitment. after that it is a matter of choosing the duro that we want, program the robots, and go into full production.
