Looks great. I am looking for a rack for my bike/kayak/snowboard and was looking at this system. Is this the 460R feet with the 3069 podiums and aerobars?

If so what size bars? 47s?

Also, is the rack removable. I am not sure that I would keep it on all the time. I am just debating whether to go with the gutter clips or the fixed feet. I would rather have the fixed system if I can remove it fairly easily.

it looks like the 460r and 3069 fit kit. most likely the rb47 aerobars and i would assume the 872xt fairing.
i have the gutter mount thule kit for my 07 ms3 with the rb47 aerobars and the 872 fairing. i bought mine used so i dont know the part number for my mounting kit, but i have been looking at getting the 460r fixed point setup in place of the gutter setup. i believe the fixed point setup would be easily removable when not in use as well.

as for the op, what kind of kayaks do you have, and how do you like the fold flat thule kayak rack? i have the thule 815 (believe thats the number) kayak cradle that i use for mine. seems to be fairly sturdy with the gutter system, but curious it it would be more secure with the fixed point rack setup. ive transported it several times on some ~80mi trips if im going to visit my parents, but other than that use it mostly local.

Thanks for the compliment. On my setup I went with the 460 Podium feet, the 3069 fit kit, and the LB50 (non-aero) 50" load bars. I wasn't concerned about getting aero bars since I was getting the fairing. The fairing is the 871XT 38".

I am able to remove/install the rack in about 15 minutes. The first couple times took a little longer, but it's really easy now. The biggest thing you need to consider on the U.S. Spec Gen 1's is the lack of access to the fixed mounting points on the factory roof rail. You will either need to replace them with Canadian-spec roof rails, or drill through your stock ones. I opted to replace the rail, since I take the rack off for winter and didn't want exposed holes in my roof rails all winter. The replacement rails have small clips that cover the fixed points when not in use. IIRC, the rails cost ~$65 each shipped to the local Mazda dealer. Here are the part numbers:
Left rail: Part # BP4K-50-9H0A
Right rail: Part # BP4K-50-9L0A

I have two kayaks that I haul around. Mine is a 14' Necky Manitou. The girlfriend has a 12' Percetion sport. I've hauled both boats at the same time on many short trips, and a few long ones. With the two kayaks mounted I drove from south central PA to the New York Fingerlakes, Niagra Falls, and back. They were rock solid at highway speeds, as well as travesing the bumps and hills of Ithaca. I take off the rack even less than I though I would since I can simply fold them down when not in use. They cost a little more, but it was something I was willing to pay to keep the rack on most of the year.

it makes sense, i bought the jrack and end up taking it off at times because i dont like driving around with it on if i dont have the kayak on it. might eventually upgrade to the fold down style like that since it makes more sense now. i guess i was close on guessing the numbers of the rack. i have the rb47 bars on mine and the 872 (44" fairing) it threw me a little because i didnt think that the smaller fairing had the end caps on it.

i have the future beach 124 (~12ft). i figured it was an inexpensive kayak to get to get into kayaking and i wouldnt be upset of i damaged or marred it because of the price. i had looked a few times at the perception conduit and one of the sports. the thicker hull would be a little more rigid in the choppy waters in the bay. may have to look into a demo day when im closer to upgrading/replacing mine
