Default CX-7 FAQ Thread

Does the CX-7 need 91 octane or higher?
Yes, for 2007 models only. For 08 models and up, 91 is not a requirement but it is recommended for the best performance. Got Turbo? Please use 91+ no matter what year. It will run better.

I'm having an issue with my CX-7, what should I do?
First, before posting a thread search on the issue and see if you can find an answer for your problem or if other members here have experienced the problem you're having or if there is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) that outlines the problem and offers a fix.
Issues and Troubleshooting Forum
My tires have worn out, should Mazda replace them or will I have to replace them myself?
Now, this question has been asked more than enough times. The best thing to do is come out of pocket and get some tires that will last much longer than the OE tires, because chances are you will just get another set of those that will wear out in the same amount of time. ORM tires suck. Period.
Tires, Wheels, and Brakes Section
My brakes are down to the metal, can I upgrade? Should I get just get OE pads? Rotors?
Brake pad and Rotor replacement megalist
I want to change the oil myself.
How to: Change your CX-7's oil
Where is/How do I change my cabin air filter?
You can order a replacement from the dealer or online for $20 or less.
How To: Replace Cabin Air Filter
I want to change out my stock sound system, what are the speaker sizes? BOSE?
First, the base 4 speaker sound system has 4 6x8/5x7 speakers. BOSE however has 2 9" Bass drivers in the front door, 5 3 1/2" Mid/High range drivers in the dash and D-Pillar, and 2 6 1/2" mid-range drivers in the rear doors. In order to replace the headunit on BOSE models you need the MAZATO from PAC. The BOSE amplifier is located behind the 2nd row of seats in between it and the spare tire.

How do I remove the door panels?

Tranny fluid is to be changed every 40k miles and you MUST do the flush not only the drain and fill up because there is about 1gallon of old crappy fluid that's left if you don't do the flush.

I read the frequently asked question point above about replacing the Bose stereo. It was suggested that you need the Mazato by pac. I went to the site and all that comes up are interfaces for Ipod, smart phones, and mp3 players. I'm not sure I understand how that helps with stereo replacement. I've got a 2010 cx-7. I was wondering what would be the repercussions of just replacing the 9 inch woofer with something tighter sounding. I could just cut off the speaker harness interface and connect the wires to the new woofers. That's the first question. The second question is if you pull the bose system out entirely, do you lose the rear view camera that is installed as well as the navigation that is installed or are they separate systems?

Hi,
Great resource manual, you just save me so much time. Now I don't have to wait for one to come and see if it has what I need.

Hi,
I am going to be able and need both of these manuals. I pulled the engine and transmission from mine, both needed repaired and fixed. I bought the car at the auction and the description said that it needed "mechanical" I guessed that it needed a head, I could only spin the crank to see if it had thrown a rod, it spun ok so no block. But I got the car home got it running sounded good but did have smoke off and on. I think from turbo or just need to be run from sitting. The engine would tack evenly at 5K. So I took it for a ride up the road. The transmission would no shift in normal and only changed shifts using the slap manual mode, hate that system. Is it possible for the transmission to act up and seem like the car has no power at all making you think that the engine is bad?

Default CX-7 FAQ Thread

It's possible but unlikely. Maybe the ECU is in limp home mode due to transmission problem. Could be a Comms failure between the ECU and TCU.

You need to get it checked out by Mazda.
