(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I've been lurking for a little while. I have a 09 CX-7 GT AWD with 130000KM. It was my DD, but since I got rid of my Honda mini van, and got a leased ford explorer ltd through work, it has become my wife DD. I had issues with the horn working, not working, sounding like shit. i just finished looking in the How to section, but did not see anything about replacing the horn. I don't know if each year, the horn is placed in the same area, but the dealer said the horn is drivers wheel well and the bumper. I am under the impression that i will have to remove one or the other, perhaps even both. in order to save time and i do not need to place it back where the original one is. I know the fuse box has a horn fuse under the hood on the drives side and a square on on the passenger side. Does anyone know how or which side wires can be cut and a new horn wires be connected to. why can't the wires of the new horn be connected to the wires cut from the fuse box and expect the horn to work. Theoretically, assuming I cut the correct wire, I can splice the wire with the new horn and mount it some where else under the hood, and leave the old non working one where it is. Like installing a light fixture. black to black. White to white and green for ground. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Yes, that should work. I'm not sure if horns are polarity specific or not, it may not even matter which wire is the hot vs. ground. Now, pics of the Miata or GTFO.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I'm going to pretend this is the same as the ms3 horn since I've replaced it in both cars I've had. Also from a quick search it looks like the cx-7 uses a single tone horn just like the ms3. On the MS3 the horn is in the driver's side bumper. In the MS6 it's on the passenger side. Pulling the bumper in any speed takes about 20 minutes, mostly removing the 8000 screws on the under side. the horn has a single wire connected to the power source, the mounting stud that holds it to the bracket is the ground. This really makes it simple to replace as long as you get a replacement 12v horn...or any horn from any car ever really. Remove the bumper and unplug the horn wire. Lots of aftermarket horns will have wiring kits/connectors with the same style spade lead so cutting and splicing isn't necessary. Remove the horn and bracket all at once. Connect the power wire from the car to the red wire in the kit or positive terminal of the horn, run the negative to a ground point on the chassis. With a 12V horn there's no need for a relay, the car takes care of that. I've used wolo horns and like the sound of them. First I had the long horns, a rather large set of air horns that barely fit, but the compressor died in about a year. Just a couple weeks ago I put an electric version of the same horns on my gen2 after an unfortunate road fording incident and like them a lot. I still need to more properly attach the ground but for now the connection is good and I have working horns. I'll post up a pic in a bit. Overall only took me about an hour to do, including jacking up the car and removing/reinstalling the bumper.
