Anyone here use Optimum No Rinse?

I bought a bottle to give it a try, and it cleaned my car without any scratching or marring. However, a friend of mine told me about a MS3 owners he knows who claims it wore out his clearcoat. Have any of you used this product or know of someone who has? If so, what do you think?

i'm just skeptical of using that without a rinse on the car first. any time your going to take a cloth (even microfiber and all the other fun stuff) and wipe without a good high pressure wash will leave at the very least tiny scratches (might be able to see them at first, but over repetition, they will appear) because your moving particles across the clearcoat.

I'll keep my good old high pressure wash, double bucket, dry, claybar, wax technique.

I have used it a few times during bad weather and it works great for me. I am a "swirl freak" and as long as you are VERY careful about rinsing the sponge a lot and using grit guards, it hasn't swirled my paint (black).

i just did mine last week & it works great. no water spot. washed the WHOLE car inside the garage (it's a little chilly last weekend). used a microfiber towel to soak/wash (1 portion @ a time) & another microfiber towel to dry it off. i'll never wash w/ soap again.

I love ONR. super versatile product. I dilute for clay lube and QD, and for a quick wash when im feeling lazy and dont feel like bringing the buckets out, or for a quick wash before a car meet or something.

Usually I use optimum car wash, or CG citrus wash and gloss if im trying to strip off any LSP and start new. But ONR is definitely a great product, especially if you need to do a quick wash in the sun.

I use the 2 bucket method with ONR and grout sponges.

I've had my car washed with it a few times right after I bought it (new, so only the dealer had done whatever to it). I noticed little blackish dots/rings on my car after a while... but I am in no way convinced that it was the ONR. My friend, who loves it and uses it all the time for his car, never had this problem. My car is white and his is graphite, so it could have just not showed up. I waxed my car and they came off easily and haven't been back, but I don't use it anymore.

Otherwise, great stuff... easy to use and leaves the car looking very shiny. It's especially nice if you live in an apartment or somewhere that a hose isn't convienent or when it's cold.

ONR is great, also have a BM and as someone said above - with grit guards it's fine.

I've used ONR weekly the last 10 months and love it. I was skeptical about swirls and marring, but after reading up on a few detailing forums I found that it's nothing to worry about if done right. I use a 2-pass method; use one bucket to wipe the car down of excess dirt, then the other bucket to wipe & dry. After a year of ownership & 22K miles I do have some minor hairline scratches, but they are few a far between. No spots/marks on the CWP paint or Ventureshield Clear Bra.

I have two minor complaints. The first is if you use it all the time, the solution will start to leave some very light residue on the surface. Really only noticeable on the windows after a day or two of driving. This is normal since the solution works as a buffer to lift/trap dirt and prevent marring on the paint surface. An occasional low pressure rinse at your local car wash will take care of that. The other is that the solution is a bit strong for rubber/plastics/unfinished paint. My wipers blades have started to spot slightly, but everything else seems to be protected by the vinyl/rubber guard.

Forgot to add - the trick with ONR is to do one panel at a time (3x3 or less), running over the panel several times to ensure you've lifted all the dirt, and dry IMMEDIATELY. The video below is from a guy that's been using ONR for a while now. Pretty basic but you get the idea:

I am not a car detailing fanatic, and I would normally go through the automatic car wash at the gas station even though I have always been troubled by the incredible waste of water. But I bought a new black car and I knew it would take more work to keep it clean, especially in the winter. I found this product on an internet discussion board, and bought it here through amazon/palm beach motoring/autogeek. This stuff is awesome!

Just two capfuls of Optimum No Rinse, plus 1 bucket of water and some microfiber towels and my car is CLEAN. Amazingly clean. No rinsing. No hose or anything. The dirt bonds to the liquid somehow and after soaking the microfiber towel in the "soapy" bucket and cleaning off the dirt, you just wipe your car dry. I know it makes no sense whatsoever to NOT rinse off your car, but it really works. No scratches or swirls or anything. Now I can clean my car in the garage, even in the winter - without wasting water! It was really cold outside, so my hands were frozen by the time I was finished, so next time I am going to use a pair of really long rubber gloves. (And after cleaning I did follow with an application of Klasse All in One - a non-wax protectant, which is also new to me and I would also recommend).

This product would be a perfect gift for earth-friendly or car-loving types.

No idea. It was 16 months ago and it was a friend of a friend who claimed that shit. I have had no issues with ONR myself.

He is confused. It can "build up" over time and look a tiny bit cloudy, tell your friend to clay bar, polish that ish which will remove the cloudiness and stop spreading that rumor it doesn't take clear coat off

ONR is a well tested and used product. ONR is used on very dirty cars that are much more expensive then ours all the time. I use ONR almost weekly and its one of my favorite car car products.


If your car is very dirty I would go for a traditional wash instead. ONR with 2 buckets is completely safe when done right. Do one panel at a time and make sure the panel is still wet when you dry.
