(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score It's not excessive. Most noticeable in 1st (highest load) and during the 1-2 shift. Although, the soot has become more noticeable over time. I'm not worried, but I am curious if anyone else has noticed it on their 2010.......Fuck the environment BTW....it's white smoke, not overfueling

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score The coolant level is fine (at MAX) and there are no bubbles in the degas bottle. We've had a fair amount of rain lately. It may be condensation burning off. I'll keep an eye on it. My problem is, I don't want the morons at the dealer touching the car if this is in fact the beginning of a failure.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Have someone drive behind you and tell you what it smells like. I've had smoke like that since day 1.. and now there's even more after my DP install, lol. It's just fuel. I'm told I smell like a race car behind me now when I take off.. And if you notice any other car on the road, if you see smoke come out of their tailpipe that means they just gunned it.. I started to notice that more.. Most cars either have smoke coming out of 'em or they just all of a sudden smell like fuel behind 'em, it's because they just got on the gas hard.. It's funny because I'm driving normally and see people do that and it's like well.. I'm keeping up with you just fine with normal driving and they're going hard.. lol.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score ^^ you are correct. What I meant is that I generally do not go WOT past 1st because most of the streets I drive on are residential. Hence, less throttle plate opening and less load. I gotcha. I'll change the oil and give her a go, see what happens. ms3brendan....you are correct. When the throttle plate position opens quickly (someone stabs the throttle), the load increases and the PCM overfuels in order to help prevent detonation. However, when the throttle closes during the 1-2 shift after light acceleration (as in my case), the module has no need to spray more fuel to compensate. Although, these engines run rich overall.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Just FYI-- did the first oil change this weekend and the smoke cleared up. I made the switch to Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 (On sale at O'Reilly for $3.99/qt). This may be of some interest that the typical VCT phaser rattle on cold start has diminished significantly. We'll see how it does over the course of the next months.

I've checked the oil level and it's full, but it's definitely not a dark brown color. It's literally a grayish color. I'm hoping this will all change when I change the oil at 1500. Possibly just the "break-in" solution bullshit that is seeping past the seals, or the fact the car has run filthy-pig-rich and is finally burning some of that shit off.

| Not Ranked : 0 score My car has done this from 14miles - ~600miles I have on it now. It's really noticeable at night when you gun it in front of someone's headlights. Judging by the condition of my tailpipes (hell, the whole back of the fucking car), it's just a result of this car running the most godawful pig ass rich of any car I've ever owned. I doubt it's oil.

Although I gotta find a place to take my car to get the oil changed just so I can have receipts in case I need warranty work done. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Yeah that smoke may be related to oil. Had the same issue 1 day after I took delivery of my car. Prior to delivery I asked them to renew oil since my suspiciton was that the car may have stand on their lot for more than 3 months. So when I was pooling I was able to see some dark smoke. However that smoke is different from what you have on a turbo leak (had the turbo issue on my 2007 CX-7 so I knew the color of the some). I took the car back to the dealer ship and I doubled checked this time that they put the oil Mazda recommend for the speed3 and after this that smoking was gone. As I said earlier it may be related to the oil (type and how many miles since last oil change) the dealership or you guys are using. Our new babies shouldn't be smoking.

Men have it done at the dealership. It's pretty much the same price as you buying the oil to the dealership. Don't know for how much you guys buy that oil at autozone or wallmart. I made the math if you buy it at the dealership may be $5-8 more they are charging for oil change. One think you guys should do when you take your car out to service is to check that: 1) Take a knife and go on the oil filter. Scratch it and put some mark there. Request the dealership to give you back the old oil filter and the empty oil bottles they used (if they used synthetic then much better). 2) Before taking back your car and sign off on any work done, please make sure to read the DEALER RECEIPT of the work that have been done on your car, BUT NOT THE CUSTOMER RECEIPT. On the dealer receipt they record all the work for their own documentation and what was exactly done on your car. What the customer receipt won't always reflect. So don't just trust the dealership to put you the oil Mazda recommended in your car. They tried to save on every corner. If I could get the oil (synthetic) 10 -15 bucks cheaper that what the dealership is charging I'll be doing the oil change on my speed3 my self. First because of the short interval (3000 miles, saving more on the long term) and secondly because of the easy oil filter swap on the speed3 (different on the CX-7 models who use cartridges)

| Not Ranked : 0 score I do all oil changes myself (only exception was the S4 I had before this because it held 9.5 quarts and the drain plug was like 2" in diameter so it was just impossible to drain with out making a lake), and I intend to do the first change at 1500 and then every 3000-5000 after that depending on analysis results. My car arrived at the dealer only a few day before I bought it so I'm not too worried about it. Also, yes, the soot and smoke is obviously fuel. I'm not sure why anyone would have thought otherwise. To smoke under WOT and have it be oil, you have to have some pretty serious oil ring wear.

| Not Ranked : 0 score If you've ever had the opportunity to tune a car, setting it rich will absolutely produce shitloads of blackish smoke. This is simply residual carbon and unburned hydrocarbons as a result of there not being enough oxygen to ensure complete (or at least better) combustion.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Blown seals typically produce a white, thicker smoke. Unburnt fuel/rich fuel or carbon will typically produce a darker, black smoke.

| Not Ranked : 0 score so a blueish grayish smoke under wide open throttle is what?? I know this is when MCI put Amsoil 15w/40 heavy duty diesel and marine oil synthetic in and this cured the problem. Were my turbo seals going as at idle was not smoking? any how there is a new TSB out and it is a PCV upgrade for climates that don't have freezing, and where temps drop below freezing you get a NEW TURBO!!!!!! I will be having a new Turbo put in once dealer gets it. I believe all 2011 2.3 disi turbo equipped cars will come with this new redesigned Garret turbo with single oil feed Hence no 2011 Speed in Canada or CX-7 with Disi as the PCV upgrade is no good for cold climate due to freezing!!! |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I read some threads in here and I want to bash my head against a wall. It is so comical how people are with cars. It is a turbo car and yes, smoke will come out of the exhaust or "soot" as some cal it. Happens all the time especially when shifting in higher rpms. Just drive the damn thing and stop worrying!!! If smoke, brake dust, or any of those little things bother you as you are driving a "performance car". Go cry in the corner. The wipe your nose, head over to your local Honda dealer and trade your car in for a civic hybrid.

If you hate these threads, why did you need to come in and "school us" on our overly dramatic sense of urgency towards our "high performance turbo cars"? Bless us with your knowledge then as to why smoke or "soot" is considered normal in your book. Smoke out of the exhaust pipe is usually a bad thing, all things considered. And no, this isn't my first time around the block with a MS3, and no, my 1st gen never, EVER smoked (modded or stock).
