For my upgraded K04, which happens to be a 582-series after all, it looks like the turbo guys knew about this, and ported the turbine-side inducer:

| Not Ranked : 0 score A bit more info on this stuff for you guys. The K04-881 has a compressor inducer of ~45mm, and a turbine exducer of ~48mm. The K04-582 has a compressor inducer of ~42mm, and an exhaust exducer of ~45mm. Like torquemaniac said, the K04-582 has a much smaller A/R on the exhaust housing. It's really noticeable, probably only ~75% of the size of the K04-881. Edit for pics: The length of the taper inside the inlets is noticeably different. That led me to actually measuring them.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Well, @phate;, you literally just answered the entire thread and cleared things up. Looks like i'm lucky that the guy who provided me with a 582 series did a nice port job on the turbine housing. The compressor stuff doesn't apply as the whole housing got milled out for the bigger wheel. @torquemaniac; it's funny that you linked to that thread, as they end up linking back to my thread as well =] That thread never quite went anywhere though, which is why I created this one to begin with. Thank you to everyone who contributed. Looks like we're done, but as always, any additional information is always welcome.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score We are currently under the impression that 881 pretty much = 882. We can of course be way off. If you have time to measure the inducers/exducers, it certainly couldn't hurt, but don't worry bout it if it's too much of a pain.

CHRA As far as I can see, the CHRA's are the same between the turbo's (you should be able to swap). As noted previous, the housings are different. You know, if someone has a smoking 882 and you can find a good 582, swapping the compressor housing and wheel might be a solution. Then again, MS K04's are cheap

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Great info @zenit, thanks for the follow up. And that 9 blade turbine wheel IS an oddball, I am really curious how well it fits into the 582/882 housings... It could be an alternative to clipping the oem turbine wheel... or you could clip this one as well, for less heat in the exhaust housing...

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score UPDATE: As a quick aside - Reconfirming all of the above 582 vs. 882 size difference statements: Turbolabs sent me the 582 exhaust housing which they "ported" to approximate what they thought an 882 housing would be like. They thought the difference between them was just a smaller inducer opening. This is wrong, as Clint stated above. Very unscientifically, I put a Mazda keyfob into their ported 582 ex. housing and my stock 882 ex. housing. The difference was visually staggering - 882 had about a quarter inch larger inducer opening, and a good 2-3mm larger A/R. This is compared to the PORTED 582 ex. housing. I had to re-use my old housing, which means the core charges should have been less. When I was ordering the hybrid turbo from them, they assured me that a 582 was negligibly different from an 882 and they fixed those differences. Buyer beware and double check all your specs. They are no longer on FB, but I have all messages saved on my end (annoying that their responses cannot be seen even after they leave fb). They can be found here, though: http://turbolabofamerica.com/ 582: sideways radius - the keyfob fit maybe 2/3 of its length down ![]() 882: sideways radius - keyfob sinks all the way down and is covered by the inlet opening by about 4mm: ![]() 582: lengthwise radius - keyfob stick out by 4-5mm: ![]() 882:lengthwise radius - keyfob sinks fully covered by about 2mm of the inlet opening:
