Default Stupid broken boost solenoid.

While installing my TIP last week I snapped off the nipple that everybody else seems to have a problem with. I shoved the end of the hose Corksport provides onto the open piece and put a clamp on it. I'll upload a picture of what I did in a bit, but I have a problemo. I'm down on power, and I don't think it's a boost leak anywhere else. I double checked all of the couplings around the IC and BPV. I'm getting~11 psi and the occasional spike at 12. I'm just curious about what exactly the nipple I broke off goes to. It's the one that connects directly to the TIP. One person on another forum told me it's a bleed off from the wastegate, and it isn't important. Others have told me it goes into the WG and controls boost. What did I break, and is it most likely what's affecting my boost? I did a datalog, and noticed that the WG is open a lot...like A LOT. Is that normal? With my foot on the floor in 3rd gear at 60mph my boost is at 11.11%, throttle is at 75% and WG is at 73%. Could that tiny hose really be the culprit? I feel like if pedal position is at 99% shouldn't throttle position be the same?

It does sound like your solenoid needs a replacement. What it does is bleed pressure from the line going to the WG. The higher the duty cycle the more it bleeds the lower the pressure at the WG the higher your actual boost.

If you can't find a replacement locally, we have a solution for you that is plug and play and you don't have to worry about breaking it as easily.

How difficult is it to tune with the ATR software? I'm still learning the basics of all this.

The EBCV can be put in 2 port mode and no tuning is needed - it will act like OEM.

So in 2 port mode I should be hitting my boost targets? If I hadn't broken the stock solenoid the tune I have was set for 17psi.

Can't speak for your tune but the solenoid will get the job done.

If the end of that hose going into the tip is crushed or blocked in any way, it will prevent the ebcs from actually bleeding pressure away from the wastegate. You will only get spring pressure like you are seeing. I would start with the simplest thing, which is your broken part, since it likely needs replaced anyway.

Edit: did you break the nipple on the tip or the ebcs?

Not the tip, I broke the nipple on the ecbs. I wasn't foolish enough to break the one on the tip. I'm uploading a picture of the rig I set up now.

I broke the outer nipple off. It looked like l_ instead of the two vertical nipples looking like l_l, so I shoved the hose on the end hoping it would work. So the one I broke was bleeding air INTO or FROM the wg?

It bleeds pressure from the wastegate diaphragm. You need a new solenoid lol.

I figured I might. Ive got around $100 to spend on a new one. I'm NOT buying an OEM because I never want this to happen again, and eventually I'm sure I'll need an aftermarket one. So what are my options? I've seen the grimmspeed one, and the one Lex posted. Anything else worth mentioning? I like the one Lex mentioned because it'e mounted in a more easily accessible spot, and it's a little cheaper. They can both be run in 2 port mode right? And how difficult is it to tune in 3 port mode? Sorry for all the questions, I'm still learning.

Yes they can all run in 2 and 3 port. The one we sell comes with an elegant thread on plug for the unused port while the GS solenoid and COBB solenoid (they are the same) you will have to install a cap. Also the barb size on those solenoids is a little on the small size for the stock lines.

It'll do the trick in 2-port mode nicely and give you options for the future.

I busted the FWD nipple off mine and was able to bandaid it back together with JB Weld until my GS arrived. Unfortunately, Lex's option wasn't available when I broke mine, it looks nicer and I like the plastic ports rather than the metal ones on the GS.

BTW...Lex your install diagrams are the best yet!!! Very nice offering.

I did the same thing when I removed the stock TIP. I thought I had everything disconnected and ripped the nipple right off the selonoid. Luckily COBB suregline is close to me and I took the wifes car to get there 3 port.

Yes. EBCS is the same. Don't waste money on OEM. You will just break another nipple.

You will need to set it up in two port mode if aftermarket. I got the Grimmspeed one. Instructions are very clear. Just leave the old one in place and mount the GS on the front of your battery box. it will come with new vacuum lines and a cap for the unused port.

FWIW, its good you searched first before posting. Kudos.

Sound hard???

One thing at a time. Replace the EBCS with one with metal nipples. Then check boost.

Then do a boost leak test.
