If they drop, you don't want to mate them with fsds.

I'd be interested, especially if the drop was mild enough to work with FSDs.

IIRC, FSDs are supposed to work with the Mazdaspeed springs, which are a 15mm drop, right?

No.

There is an FSD "kit" for the regular 3 that uses Eibach regular 3 ProKit Springs, but to my knowledge Koni hasn't recommended using the FSDs for the MS3 with anything other than the OEM MS3 springs.

Personally, I'd be a little leery of anyone claiming that their uprated springs are going to "work well with the OEM dampers" (especially if they're referring to Gen 1 dampers).

Ahhh. Good to know. Even so, Swift seems pretty popular with the Subie crowd for combining a slight drop with stockish comfort with slightly better handling. I'd still like to see what they can do for us.

I would love to get a set, I do want a little bit of a drop but do not want to rub. any idea of the amount of drop that would look good without screwing up the struts?

Swift is a legitimate brand and made their name through Honda. Were very popular with the CRX crowd back in the day. But to my knowledge Swift does not make springs comparable to OEM height.

And OP, I take concern to the H&R comment. Their Sports lineup is a consumer spring with conservative rates, similar to Pro-Kit. H&R's OE lineup is excellent but unavailable for our cars.

Yeah im referring to what is available for the ms3 now.. Im sorry i didn't mean to put the company down. Its a good company with some great springs but just not for the ms3 yet. Their drop is for looks before its for performance. This statement can be said for majority of what is being made for gen1 and gen2 platform..

I am definately interested. There was another post a couple years ago that went down this path but didn't get very far. Hopefully we will see some springs this time around.

I am interested depending on the drop (H&R drop is a bit much for my taste). Looks like they make them for the RX-8. Someone on here has to know someone with a RX-8 that maybe has some Swift Springs??

I spoke to the owner of swift yesterday. He told me they were considering it in the past for the gen1 plateform but they stopped since there was not enough interest< which i knew aready.
Also according to him it takes on average 3-4 months (give or take) from start to finish to get the springs out. Now with the tsunami that hit Japan its probabaly going to be longer. Their head engineer their comes up with 3-4 sets of springs for the car. They do testing on a J-spec version of course. Once they feel comfortable optimium performance is met they send their 3-4 sets out to Swift USA. They get tested here and if it needs minor corrections it will be sent back. If one of the sets they tested are good to go then they start production.
Right now I don't there is enough interest. I will wait 1-3 weeks and see where it goes. I don't think waiting 6-8 months is long if your intentions are to go strut/spring combo. If you can't wait I say go with KW or mazdaspeed (kw) cause nothing seems good enough to consider now. for me atleast.

I would be interested in some higher rate springs that work well with FSD's that do NOT drop the car past the stock MS3 height

Interest level is starting to pick up. I spoke to Swift again and they let me know that most likely spec-R will be produced for the MS3 if there is enough interest. From they have been reading here spec-R is the way to go.Below is some links (comparisions and reviews)

tell swift to mate their ms3 springs to koni fsds. the ms3 market is saturated with springs, but no on has touched koni fsds yet.

This x 100000000

I don't really want a drop, but if it's <1" I think it might be do-able to run them with fsd's. I'd want a spring + fsd combo, otherwise I wouldn't be too terribly interested.

All of spekvspeedfreak's info. was spot on, but I'd like to add if I may....

Although swift is highly respected (by me too), it took them forever to come out with the "spec R" for the evo X. (iirc, it was well over a year after the release of their "sport" line springs.

Their "sport" springs are great (if not THE best) as far as function, but those looking for a "drop" would be better off with the H&R or Eibach. (just reiterating)

FWIW, the company does a massive amount of real world testing, and although the "sport" version springs (not the spec R) will probably be released first, you can bank on them being well matched for the weight and handling characteristics of the ms3.

If people (ms3 community) are interested in a drop and a stiffer spring, you might ask Swift to skip the "sport" version and come to market with the Spec R first.

While I can agree with that, I question the demand for a sport spring for the MS3 that doesn't drop the car at all. Reason being our MS3 springs are fairly stiff to begin with. It's been shown our crappy OEM dampers can't last as it is with them trying to control the stock spring rates. Perhaps they can pick up where COBB left off and offer a very conservative drop which was seen by COBB users = .5"-.75" up front with little to no drop in the back. Perhaps if they market them differently than COBB and advertise a conservative .25-.5" drop at most. (COBB advertised a 1" drop all around that not many have seen)

I might have missed it but would these be linear? Or progressive? Progressive at stock ride height might also seem like a good match to the 4045 FSD's as the necessary travel would be there. With being progressive they could offer a slightly smoother ride than the stockers when not being pushed. But with reports (FFF's review) of even the 20% increase in rebound damping with the 4045's over the 4040's still not being enough using stock springs, higher rate aftermarket springs would only exacerbate the lack of rebound control.

I like the idea of another player in the market. Can never have enough choices as a consumer. Just wonder what kind of investment they will need to make to have an available product for us with an assumed market demand.

They told me that they will only make the spec-R for the MS3.. I'm good with that. thats what i want.If you look at their chart http://swiftsprings.com/file/ss.pdf Spec-R's typically provide the same or a more aggressive drop and much higher spring rates...and from what I have read so far provide a good ride.. I have only driven in sport springs and they are awesome so spec-R's should be great too.

..but just post here if your'e interested in sport springs.. Ill be updating them with both threads so know they what people are saying and hopefully listen..

lol.. they might start something for the gen 1 once they see people are interested. I don't see why not.. Its probably minor changes for them and might not be a huge deal...but i'll drop trying to get interest out for the gen1 just for you...

Swift springs are high end shit. Better materials, strong, and lighter than the traditional eibach and h&r springs.

I would think, you could order from their catalog? Why do they have to "produce" something specifically marketed to the MS3? Take measurements of what you have, calculate spring rates you want, find comparable existing parts in the catalog. I may be naive about that.

The coilover company "Stance" (another Chinese mfg sadly, but they get good reviews), uses swift springs on their higher end coilovers, which they can make for the MS3. If you want swift springs sooner than later, they just come with coilovers.

let's get out the finger puppets here. you start shilling swift springs in the GEN1 section. you generate interest with the koni fsds guys since you claim swift springs have minimal drop. you then tell us GOOD NEWS! swift will begin testing on a GENPU.

do you see what you did here? don't offer someone a bj and then go blow someone else down the street.

do you see what you did here? don't offer someone a bj and then go blow someone else down the street.
doesn't mean you need to move the thread..interest could still of built up and maybe they would consider making it. There was more interest for gen2 so they will start with that. The thread in the gen1 section was to get interest for just that, the gen 1.. You and a few others failed to understand that even if they said they will make springs for the gen2 it didn't mean they wouldn't consider making one for the gen1 (Thats why i even mentioned to still respond). You took it as a tease rather than the good news it was, which was progress!...anyways good job for killing any potential the gen1 had..

Here's my $.02:

1) The OEM springs (at least the Gen 1 springs) have rates that are perfectly fine for a stock ride-height car. Improvements at stock ride height should be made through damper and swaybar tuning.

2. If they are stiffer they aren't likely to work well with FSDs, even at stock ride height. ...at least not with the FSD options we currently have (i.e., the ones available for this platform don't have the goods to control springs that are stiffer than the OEM springs), from what several guys whose opinions I value have told me (I have never driven an FSD-controlled MS3 myself).

3. Did they change something with the spring perches/upper mounts on the Genpus??
If not, this Gen1 vs. Gen2 B.S. is all moot, as the springs will work for either car... Am I completely ignorant here (I haven't really followed much of any of the Gen2 spring discussion as of yet)? The only real substantive change I remember reading about regarding the springs was that they softened up the front rates a bit on the Gen2s.
