Default Boost Control Solenoid Nipple Issues

Hi guys,

Just picked up a 2012 Speed3 yesterday. Owner told me he tried to JB Weld the nipple on the BCS, and it stayed for a bit but must have came off with heat. I won’t be able to order a new OEM one for a week or two. Do I have a lot to worry about? I don’t want to risk damaging anything. I’ll attach a picture of the broken nipple below.

I did a search and it seems this is very common, but I’ve seen some people say stay out of boost “or else”, and some people say it’s fine and just don’t drive the car super hard. Wondering what you guys think. I’m very new to boosted cars, all my other cars have been N/A. I appreciate any input that’s given

I've driving for many many months with a broken nipple before even noticing it was broke. I think you're fine for another week or two, just dont be speed racer.

if it is the side going back to tih it is not a big thing, afr will just be off a bit but if it is the other side going to wg, then it will overboost and this will makes engine damage

^ This.

Don’t get a replacement OEM. The plastic nipple may break again. Get the Grimspeed model for the Mazdaspeed 3. It has metal (brass) nipples. Run it in standard 2 port mode. Comes with the proper wiring and plug and plenty of hose, so it is true plug and play.

You don't want to go WOT without having everything connected.

If you're running any aftermarket EBCS you will need to monitor boost pressure levels as generally they're more efficient and will not modulate boost pressure correctly. (EDIT: By incorrectly I mean not as the stock BCS will)

Your best bet is to get the stock one if you're not planning on running in 3-port mode (or even 2 port bleed mode) as even (AFAIK) every aftermarket EBCS will require you to lower your WGDC.

I had mine break on me getting on the freeway due to what I am assuming is because of 130k miles, AZ heat, and a shitty RMM. Hit 31 PSI before it blew the intercooler piping. Got the CS EBCS. It's really nice.

I ordered the Grimspeed EBCS.. I’ve read I don’t need a tune if I’m going to run it in 2 port mode. Is this true? I don’t have an AP, and HPFP internals are next on the list before anything, so I’m just making sure I’m good to go without a tune if I were to install it.

Yes, you must run it in two port mode with stock tune or any canned tune. You must custom tune specifically for three port operation. It comes with lots of extra vacuum line, so you can mount it anywhere and just leave the old EBCS mounted where it is.

It is a bullet-proof design. You will never break a nipple on it.
