Default DIY Headrest Camera mount. ( GoPro2 )

I found a DIY and made my own variation of it. This is a pic guide I followed but added on:

PVC T-Joint
Used Friction tape AKA Hockey tape.
Plastidip for the paint.

Used the GoPro2 Stick on Flat surface on the Standed down ( leveled out ) PVC T-Join.

Option for a 1/4-20 to mount my D7000 later.

Sanded down the whole surface of the PVC before spraying.

I made one too! how ever I made it out of wood so I can crank on it without fear of breaking it. and I disassembled an old tripod for the screw on part so I can mount my camcorder or camera.

I like the tripod head. I would be missing that flexibility if I used the 1/4-20 straight into the bottom of my D7000 or any other Cam/Vidcam

Did something similar but I felt the PVC was a bit flimsy.

Went to Lowe's, Ace and Best Buy for the following:
Tripod mount (BB)
3/4" square tubing, trimmed to 2' long (Lowes)
Two (2) 3/4" square plastic plugs (Lowes)
Two (2) 1/2" U-bolts (getting some wing nuts later on) (Lowes)
One (1) 1/4" x 20 UNC x 1 1/4" long (Ace)
Three (3) 1/4" metal washers (Ace)
Two (2) 1/4" rubber washers (Ace)

I have been using it quite a bit, so far not bad, I will attempt to post some video later. Trying to come up with a method to mount to the tow bar, I have a plan so to HomeDepot later this week. I will use another tripod mount ($6), a portion of my tow plate mount, and attempt to find parts and pieces at the depot.

Thought I would post up my Tow Hook Location Mount. Parts include:
One (1) GoPro Tripod mount
One (1) 1/4" x 1/2" bolt
One (1) 1/4" washer
One (1) 1/4" lock washer
One (1) 5/16" neoprene washer (out of 1/4")
One (1) 1/4" x 1 1/4" neoprene washer (under the mount)
Six (6) inch piece of 1" x 1" angle aluminum
Utilized my CPE Towplate

Have not tried this out, I imagine this will be rough but we will see, here are the pics.

I like that front tow hook setup. I have used my gopro with the suction mount on the roofs of cars with no problems, but it always makes me nervous that it will fly off. I have traveled over 130mph with it on the roof and it still looks solid.

4 times the cost or more ... not including shipping. If you have spray paint on hand its cheaper than 10$

Thats exactly the one I was going to get till I found a DIY.

Great write-ups, I hope to do something similar.

I only see talk of gopro for the filming. Anyone have luck with other types of cameras? Perhaps a less expensive one? I understand the gopro's are terrific (video quality, product quality, etc.) but it would be a bit overkill for solely a headrest cam, IMO.

I'd be interested to find one that you could leave running constantly, that would overwrite old content when space is full.

I made a different version to mount my Sony NEX-5N. Slight vibes with this set-up and pretty cheap. Head rest poles fit through the grommets and the camer attaches to a $10 adjustable ball joint mount from Amazon. I can post up more details if people are interested.

For future reference and as a reminder...

If you are showing someone how to build something and you are not charging money for your time and information... That is GOOD.

If you are selling a product or service for personal gain or even for 3rd part gain (Same Thing IMO) and you are not an approved merchant, or have an agreement with the staff... That is BAD

If you're passengerless, just jam the go pro in between the headrest and seat.

cost $0
Time 5 seconds

You could, tried that before. But I like that this is centered. I'm kinda picky haha. I just got my gopro so it's finally time to do this. Been wanting to do this for like a year now

If it ever fly's off, I have some cheaper versions for sale. I'll post in the for sale section once I have more posts
