Luckily we have a lift here at work which always makes working on cars easier so I opted to take advantage of it for this install. http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1221.jpg To remove the factory catback you'll basically only need a 12mm and 14mm socket and ratcheting wrench. http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1252.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1253.jpg Start off by removing the mid chassis brace by removing the 8 12mm bolts. The brace has some hooks on it so you'll have to slide it back before it will drop down and off the car. http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1259.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1258.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1262.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1263.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1260.jpg Use your 14mm to remove the nuts from both axleback and midpipe. http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1264.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1267.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1270.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1271.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1272.jpg Next you'll disconnect the exhaust hangers and drop the factory system out of the way. http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1273.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1274.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1278.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1279.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1282.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1283.jpg Here is the car with the factory catback uninstalled. http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1284.jpg Mount up the pretty CP-E axle-back section. http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1286.jpg To install the midpipe, when connecting it to a factory downpipe or factory style you'll need to remove the stock studs and connect using the supplied bolts and washers and reuse the factory springs. http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1293.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1294.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1295.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1296.jpg To connect the axle-back and midpipe you'll need to install the 3rd pipe in the kit that are slip fit connections with clamps. http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1288.jpg http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1290.jpg After you've connected all the pipes reinstall the chassis brace while ensuring you don't overtorque these bolts. http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1298.jpg Install the tips as the last part. There is a fair amount of adjustment on the tips so that you can either install them flush with the bumper, out further or have them sit tucked under the bumper, really whatever you feel you like best. http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/IMG_1297.jpg Here is the finished product. http://rallysportdirect.smugmug.com/...O/DSC_2245.jpg Don't forget to watch the video we made of the exhaust. Thanks, Tanner |

Bonus points if you can confirm fitment of this exhaust with a Curt 11383 hitch installed :) I'm on the hunt for a catback that will fit with my hitch. |
I just installed this exhaust on my car and I have the extra muffler that you can purchase with this kit, and the exhaust sounds awesome even with the added muffler. So if you have the extra money purchase this exhaust before you buy a different brand. I had a magnaflow exhaust on my car and was just not aggressive enough for me, so a local nator member was wanting to sell his cause he was going with a different car and I purchased his exhaust and installed yesterday. First this exhaust sounds way better then the magnaflow, I can not compare it to a corksport, or a few other of the cbe. Second the quality of this exhaust is great, I had people at the shop I work at complimenting the welding quality on this exhaust, and how the fitment was and even the sound. I just wish I spent the extra money on the cpe exhaust at first instead of wasting money on the magnaflow |

Not sure how it will sound with my catless setup. Hoping its not too damn loud. Although, I got offered one for $400+ my stock exhaust. |

I was checking out the pictures and luckily yes the majority of it is smaller. I think the problem would be the tips though. I wonder since the cp-e tips are removal, if it would be possible to get ones that weren't so big? Here's some pics I had taken of clearance to the stock exhaust, the hitch metal is 1/4" http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/1.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/2.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/3.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/4.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/5.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/6.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/7.pg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/8.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/9.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/10.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/11.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/12.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/13.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/14.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/15.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/16.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/17.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/18.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/19.jpg http://someforum.net/2013/hitch/20.jpg |

Not sure if the one for sale has the added muffler or not. Do you like the sound thus far? |

i purchased this exhaust back in august. nothing but happy with it. did have a little issue getting the flanges together because it seemed the flare was too small for the gasket/donut. but other than that the exhaust is loud, but not too loud and very little drone on the highway. kind of curious to see how itll sound with a catted DP |
This is what I have on my car now and I love it. I wanted some good sounds without it sounding nasty and dirty. I got the cpe turbo back setup. Catted DP, no resonator, just the cat and the mufflers that come on this exhaust. Sounds awesome! Very high quality parts. |
Does anyone have a sound clip of this with a catless DP? |
Nice |
@ThatGuy; send this to yourself so we can reference it when we go to install this bad boy! |
installation is a breeze, did the downpipe, catback, and plug change all in 4 hours. If you did exhaust alone might take you an hour and that includes getting the car in the air |

Sorry to dig up a thread that is over a year old, I just purchased a used cp- cbe and sure test pipe...can I reuse the factory donut gasket between the test pipe and mid pipe or do I need an aftermarket one or do I need to contact cpe? |
Someone may be able to chime in but I would just call them. I had a question about their rmm and they had pdf directions emailed to me within 5 minutes. |
I am selling my wheel/tire package I had on the TDI... Then this is being purchased.:headbang: |
So it's been a while since OP posted the instructions, and the photos are no longer there... I just purchased (or will be by this weekend) a used one and could really use the photos to help with the install. |
Use Google Chrome or Safari. This exhaust isn't hard to install. Unbolt the stock one and bolt on the CPE one. No tune required in response to your other post, it is a sound modification nothing more, albeit a fantastic one in my opinion, but too loud for others. You should hear how loud it is with the CPE catless downpipe too, holy shit loud, but it is awesome @ WOT and I love it! |

Does anyone have any tips for getting the studs out of the stock cat ? |
Heat it up! |

|
double nut is the way to save thread yes or vise grip when it is a throw away stud |

Update: in case this happens to anyone else, it took all of 10 min to remove the cat from the down pipe and heat up the studs with a propane torch. Studs came out clean and easy that way. |
you weren't able to heat them in place ? A propane torch and if you need a little extra heat, the yellow can (Map-pro) saved me few times from the needs of a full torch set. |
I used a propane torch but was on jack stands so didn’t want to lay under there upside with a torch |
