Default Tow hitch on 2010 MS3?

I searched but found nothing.........
Does anyone know if the tow hitch by Curt or Hiddenhitch that fits the regular 3 will also fit the Speed 3? Some of the online retailers say "except Mazdaspeed 3" on the hitch description, some don't. I am thinking that it should fit, and they say it doesn't because you shouldn't tow with the MS3because it's a turbo??????? Btw, I am using it for a bike rack that I already have. I hate roof racks.

I called Etrailer a month ago for a hitch for my bike rack. They said they are not available, yet. I hope they become available before spring.

I just installed a Curt hitch on my Speed 3. Easy job, but you have to wiggle the hitch a bit to get it to fit. I got it from Rock Auto.

I am going to grind off the chain hooks so it looks a bit cleaner.

I had a 2004 Mazda 3 with a hitch that towed a trailer with my motorcycle. Would there be a problem towing it with the Mazdaspeed 3? I also have a bike rack for it as well, so I am interested in the hitch either way.

I asked my dealer about towing with this car and they said 1000lbs max

Owners Manual says:

The Mazda3 is not designed for towing. Never tow a trailer with your Mazda3

So you decide. I'm guessing they'd void any kind of drivetrain warranty if you had problems after towing with it.

I have seen pics on other forums of people towing jet skis and bikes on a trailer.

My 2004 Mazda 3 had no problems, so I just assumed the Mazdaspeed would be ok. The bike + trailer are about 650 lbs. The 2004 manual said 1000 lbs max in it, but I have not looked at that section of the new manual.

The trailer was especially helpful when moving large objects, such as couches and desks, that were not very heavy.

I am not sure if the angle of the picture above caused it, but the hitch seems to stick out below the bumper more than the "hidden hitch" I had on the 3.

I agree, this car could easily pull 1000 lbs. A hitch is so nice to have!

I just worry about the a-holes at the dealership. If they ask I just tell them it's for a bike rack!

I have mine just for a plug in bike rack, no intention of towing anything. I even ground off the safety chain hooks.

I have a 2010 speed and my dealer installed a hidden hitch on it for me when I bought the car. I only use it for bikes. When my bike rack is off you can't even notice it on there. I hope this helps.

Anyone know which hitch brand and model fits a 2010 speed 3? All the fit guides I see either exclude the speed3 or don't list it as one of the trim options.

Thanks.

I ordered the Hidden Hitch from etrailer.com. Should be here next week, I will let you know if it fits.

Did you get the hitch and did it fit? If so, I'd love to know the model number.

I just got a 2010 Velocity Red Speed 3 and need a hitch. I took a look under the rear and I'm not sure how any of these hitches would fit with all the exhaust pipes running around back there. Maybe someone who got one to fit could take a few pics under the back to show how it does fit?

Thanks.

Installed it yesterday. It fit like a glove. It attaches behind the muffler and between the exhaust pipes. The only issue was it was delivered to my neighbors front porch.

Question for anyone who has a hitch installed, did you also get the wiring harness for trailer lights installed? I installed the light adapter and am having weird results.

See this thread.

I believe the one I ordered (hidden hitch listed above) was specified for the standard Mazda 3 hatchback. I am betting you will just need to ask for that one.

Forgot about this, sorry.

This is the hitch I ordered. I am having problems now with my exhaust banging off the hitch. I think the rubber hangars have softened up over time. I am gonna order the Corksport urethane hangars, hopefully it solves my problem.

They say the hitches wont work with the Speed 3, but they all do. It's a bit of a tight fit, and a second pair of hands is really helpful when installing.

Also, my hidden hitch has no clearance problems. Over 10k miles with it installed and it has never contacted the exhaust.

two year old thread revival....What type of racks are you guys using for your tow hitches? I'm looking to get a hitch/bike rack for my speed.

The Hidden hitch from E-Trailer does work on a 2012 speed3. Put one on my car last year. I use a Thule Bike rack, kinda pricey but I like the features. I sprung extra for a matching lock set so that I can use 1 key for the hitch lock, both arm locks and both arm cable locks. Once its on and locked down it is Very Secure... Safe enough you can go into a gas station to get something to drink and still have a bike when you come back. Included a few pics. The stick on reflectors on the rack were added and do not come with the rack.

I did have to trim the left wheel holder for the bike rack since the hidden hitch sits closer to the body... I just used a belt sander to cut it back so that it didnt hit the bumper when in stored position.

Yes... It's stable with a bike on the rack at 80mph. I personally bought the hitch just for the rack, I don't know if I would actually try to tow anything. The hitch is 1.25 and not 2.0, has a weight limit of 200 lbs, can't remember the tow capacity since I never planned on towing anything. Like someone else said, I have had zero clearance issues. And yes.. my car is filthy...

Thanks for the info! I recently picked up another MS3 (2013) and need a hitch to transport my Mt. bikes so, the e-trailer hitch is exactly what I have been looking for.

I know I read that the towing capacity was 1000lbs unbraked 2000lbs braked...dunno if that helps, I'll try and find the source.

I would not think it would be an issue. I'm planning on using the hidden hitch/ HF folding trailer combo to tow a motocross bike. The tongue weight would barely be anything much, it would be no different than hauling a couple fat asses around I would think.

Just dont go faster than what your trailer is rated for.. Usually 55-65MPH.. I hate seeing people going down the road with a trailer whipping all about..

I trailer mine with no problems. Actually pulls it very well. Impressed some friends that made fun of me for pulling a motorcycle with a car.

Curt 11383 fits beautifully. Get the 113833 with the tow bar too if you're ordering, it's a better deal than getting it separate.
Curt 56011 t-connector wiring harness also works. No splicing or cutting required at all. It DOES work with the LED taillights but you cannot have a heavy load on it. You must run LED lights on your trailer.
Fitment with a CBE is not yet confirmed, I'm on stock exhaust but have been talking to a few vendors about fitment and might explore the options in the spring time.
Towing wise, my trailer (4x8 harbor freight folding one) is 300lbs or so and I've had 800-900lbs in it. So I have towed around 1200lbs total, the car behaves perfectly fine. A little harder on the clutch for hill starts but we have ample power and braking with the MS3. Anything under 1000lbs I would not be worried about at all.

This is on my 2010 MS3:
