Evo 8 enkeis vs. MR BBS vs. stock

So, long story short: currently have stockers, bought some MR BBS recently.

Another local guy is looking to get rid of his Evo 8 enkeis and I'm thinking about getting them for my future tracking/autox. Research suggests they weigh 20-20.5lbs, which is better vs. stockers at 24-25lbs. However the BBS weigh in at 18.5 per.

Advice has been to go 17" due to lighter weight of similar wheels. There is also the shift to a higher acceleration/higher revs with a 40 series 17".

Would the enkeis be worth it or nah because I already have a lightweight forged alloy in the BBSs?

Your looking for light weight wheels and you already have the BBS (which are the lightest of the 3 you listed) .... am I missing something?

Just wondering if the smaller dia and lower offset make that much of a difference in handling and driveability? Otherwise I agree, it's a moot point and I'll just look to get a 17" forged in the future.

ForceCentripetal = m(V^2/r)

So diameter does effect the force exerted/needed to maintain control. But the weight reduction of 5lbs has more of a effect than 1 inch of reduced diameter.


Please correct me if I am wrong. Not a physicist, just a PT student.

What is a "PT" student? I'm an engineer by trade, so the weight reduction would make more sense to me, but there's more than just weight to it. I just assumed that "driving feel" was also on the table and so was curious what others had to say.

I believe your equation is correct, but, as you said, the weight reduction probably plays more part. But that's getting into differential equations and I'm not about to relive that painful part of my past.

I also reread my original post and I'm pretty sure I took stupid pills this morning because it's not the only dumb question I've asked today. So maybe we should just chalk this one up to stupidity and move on :hit with rock:

When you start tracking, tires and brakes become consumables just like gas. I go through ~ $100 a day in tires. 17s are cheaper than 18s and it does add up.

Hmm, now I think I remember something about that, but I'm glad your chimed in. Idk if I'll be tracking that hard. The other thought would be that if I am, there are lighter 17s than the Evo 8 Enkei stockers. However that's a lot of money.
