Default CP-E HPFP vs Internals

I've been looking thru the forums trying to decide if CP-E HPFP is better than internal mods. I wasn't able to find enough information to made a decision. I plan on buying the best pump available but is it really worth dishing out an extra 350.00 more for a CP-E pump? If you know the differences please let me know. Thanks !!

The cpe is nothing more then a stock pump cleaned up with a set of upgraded internals. The only difference is you are paying extra money for someone else to loosen a nut and switch out the shafts. Its a dead horse that is more then beaten to death. Get the internals and save yourself the money.

You haven't done any research if you think a cp-e pump is only $350 more than internals.

Go read some more clown.

Thanks, I kind of figured this, but after reading quite of few posts there seems to be alot of different opinions out there. It may be beating a horse but facts are better than opinions which seem to be hard to get. Any manufacturing stand out for internals?

The Cp-e fuel pump is a normal fuel pump out of the MS3 that is upgraded with I believe APR internals (which we cannot buy). The only positive thing is the lifetime warranty, but it is a hefty price. For less than half that cost and some patience, internals are a better path. There is an awesome how-to on how to do it. Honestly, if you're gonna remove the stock pump anyways, why not just go the one step further and do the internal install.

As for internals, either KDM or Autotech's will work fine. Any fails that you have read on here, which can happen mind you, are 99% of the time user error. As long as you follow the directions given and take your time, either brand will work fine. PTP however have a bad reputation on here (long story why, I believe), so I would stay away from them. Autotech's can easily be picked up by EdgeAutosports, so contact either JP or Eric.

Don't forget the cp-e pump is broken in and tested on a machine before it is sent out, cp-e pump failures are not very common. Have I done internals yes... Do I have a cp-e pump now yes.

I say if you got the money for the cp-e pump then do it, if you want to save a little bit of money go internals.

No. But if you want to put up more cash and wait weeks to get your core fee back, go ahead.

Technically, that difference is contigent upon your old fuel pump passing the requirments to get back the core refund. If you send them a shot fuel pump, well, no core refund.

if you want the same answers that are available everywhere else, ask the same questions over and over.

it is true, before this thread no one answered YOUR question that is special and just slightly different in a way that justifies a thread just for you. but in reality, you have to make a decision for yourself. so...

fuck you.

If you didn't figure it out. You get the core charge back. Add 350 and then subract it when you get it back. Still equals 318.00. Who would be stupid enough not to get the core charge back. Not me.

Its a new car - 2011, I hope it would still pass. Anyway, I going with internals now.

fuck you.

I've made my decision. After a few responses internals sound like the way to go. I read many posts and didn't find what I was looking for so I asked. I don't see a problem with that so don't respond of you don't like my thread.

Ive been on this fo-RUM for a year and autotech internals always seem to be the best route besides going with a cpe pump. If you dont know how to reset your ecu, or clean your air filter then i think you should just get the cpe pump...less work you can screw up

@SPD3-11

Unrelated to the topic at hand, but you've spelled "velocity" wrong in your signature.
Just here to help prevent future embarrassment.

Also, internals.

Can you find a cp-e pump anywhere? They seem to be out of stock for months?

Nobody send the core back?

Ha, I was gonna ask if Cp-e stopped making these pumps or something. Might be worth getting a warranty assuming they honor it. Is it worth it to wait 6 months to get a backordered pump from Cp-e? Probably not.

Doesn't make alot of sense to buy their pump if they can't replace it immediately if it fails. I wonder if you would get stuck waiting months for the replacement pump to arrive. Too expensive keep a backup.

Good point. ^^

Also, its all well and good to have warranty but if one of their pumps did fail you're likely to have bigger problems than just replacing the pump anyways

I guess I'm hijacking this thread, but are there any internals that don't sound chirpy? Seems like everyone who did the upgrade gets the "squeak" at some point. I guess I can live with it, just wondering if any are less prone to this. ??

My autotechs honestly didn't really change the sound at all... Maybe a touch louder but not noticeable with the hood down

The chirp can be eliminated with a proper tune. There is also another noise that comes from the spring. The fuel pumps that chirp/squeak no longer have the OEM retainer on the end of the fuel pump.

If you want a quiet fuel pump, get one that uses the OEM retainer in its design.

Hope this helps,

John

Yes, any pump that is tested, comes with a lifetime warranty and is proven is worth the extra warranty.

Finding good information on fuel pumps is difficult because so few really understand how they work. I know the differences between all the fuel pump, but have no intentions of sharing my opinions/facts on this. To many would view my report as biased and I see no benefit in bashing my competitor in order to make additional sales.

I will share this. There is a reason CP-e and myself use the OEM retainer on the bottom of the fuel pump. There is a reason for the design of the slipper joint between the fuel pump/oem puck/cam follower.

One other thing to consider, the pump pistons are all different sizes. CP-e has the smallest piston diameter out of all the fuel pump upgrades. Just something to think about.

Hey guess what, my CP-E pump failed. Lifetime warranty? Yeah cp-e is full of dicks and won't give it to me because guess what happens when a pump fails. Your spring retainer shoots off and is never to be found again.

How did you contact them?
How long did you have the fuel pump?
How did the pump fail?
Is the only reason they denied it because of the spring retainer missing?

Unfortunately, CP-e doesn't really give a shit about the MZR platform anymore. So you'll have to most likely call them, and demand that they honor their warranty. Over and over again until they cave.

I've had this pump for 6 years.
I have no fucking clue how it failed to be honest, I wasn't there when it happened my shop test drove my car and it got em.

Oh yes, I've called them twice now and I've just gotten my first response via email; and I can already tell that this is going to be more difficult than planned because my machine shop "lost" the retainer and cam follower.

I must say I have the worst fucking luck with a Mazda than anyone here. This is only a piece.
