Backup Camera from ebayz

Easy install, just head unit takes some time to get behind.

Buncha wires an stuff.

Drilled in the bumper, above the license plate. Was thinking under the wing, but didn't know if it was hollow all the way to the mount points. That would have gotten a higher view range. (I know it's dirty, but that is the way I like'em!)



Drain plug from drivers side rear quarter panel area, cut some slits.


The wire thru it.


just kept slipping the wire along the paneling fast.



Plastic putty knife works just as good as a more costly dash removal tool lol.



Pain the ass two screws to finally release the head unit from the dash, glove box had to come out to get to them screws.

Shove all the extra wire behind the unit's housing resting point.

Tested everything before putting it back together.

All done. Now I can see who I'm running over.

I really like that camera. The one I bought for my 5 series is way too big due mostly to the mount.

My head came equipped with dual back up cameras...they have direct neural interface too.



(why anyone would need a backup camera on a MS3 is beyond me)

LoL, Cuz it's fun to MOD (functional or not, it's enjoyable!). Besides, gotta watch out for those garden gnomes, they are really small people to spot.

The vent part does. You'll see screws, just take your time.

I almost cant believe my eyes! ^_^ I have a 13 Speed3 with Tech pack and it seems all I have to do is run the damn wire to the HU and plug it in?! Hit reverse and it pops up automatically?

I just did the same install this weekend.

The wire is a direct plug in to the back of the head unit. Run the cables to the back (this takes the most work of the whole process), mount the camera and voila. The way it all comes together looks like a BU camera was part of the original idea for the car but tossed late in the process. It all works seamlessly.

As for why? Because I have dark tint and visibility sucks at night. Now, I have no problems.

Does anyone know the name of the adapter (or part #) that plugs in the back of the head unit with the rca adapter/power wires? I bought a camera and of course it did not include that.

Hate to necro this thread but I just saw it and now I'm really intrigued. I bought the camera a few minutes ago, what I wanna know is is it possible to make it so the wire is completely hidden from the camera to the head unit? A stray wire would drive me crazy.

yea, just hide it in the panels/weather stripping and run it through the glove box.

just a side note, i wouldn't trust the lines for parallel parking if you put it in the same spot as op.

I actually got this in about a month ago. All hidden. The camera is OK I suppose. Does it's job of showing me what's behind me but I wouldn't use it for parking like you said. Its really hard to get it angled correctly so the lines aren't precise.
