We may not get the same updates since mine is the GM model. Where did you get the update? I looked on Eonon's website but didn't see anything. Also, have you found any good sites or forums with information on customizing Eonon units?

Also, thanks for the heads up on the wires with the snap connectors. I never put 2 and 2 together to realize there were two wires labeled Brake and two labeled Illumination. Connected those up and that fixed the problem. Photo is attached. Wonder why those two use snap connectors instead of just being wired normally into the harness.

Anyway, my Pro's and Con's pretty much line up with yours so far. I think it sounds a bit better than the OEM unit but I haven't even driven the car yet with the new unit. Here's what I can think of.

Pro:
- GM model specific, Miracast is really cool. I can put up my phones display and audio to the headunit so Google Maps, YouTube, etc, all work great.

Con:
- GM model specific, it takes a bit for Miracast to connect so while convenient, I would not consider it something I'd want to do every time I sat down in my car.
- NFC does not appear to work at all. Phone does not even pick up an NFC point. (bitburner reports his works fine, pointers?)
- It is far from clear how to teach the unit to use a steering wheel button for something other than the default. Gonna look into this online.
- The Address Book once synced to your phone is not in alphabetical order. Makes finding a name kinda a bitch.

I know in the original post, it was said that there was a patch to get A2DP to connect when you start the car back up again.

Does your phone connect back to bluetooth once you start the car? Does music start playing automatically where it left off without you having to press to do anything on your phone?

Easy cowboy, don't start getting rowdy. But seriously, if you're the type that can't wait to add shit to a list before you even do it, i doubt you'd be the type to forget to add it later.

Why even bring it up in this thread except to stir shit? Why is my mod list such a concern of yours? If I want to add that I upgraded my turbo to inject compressed unicorn magic, I will.

compressed_unicorn_magic.png

Anyway, on the subject of the thread. I've noticed that the unit doesn't keep time while the car is off. It remembers what source I was listening to but the time is way behind until it gets the signal from GPS. I tried turning GPS time set off but it still forgets time while the unit is off but, of course, never corrects itself like it does with GPS time on.

Part of me wants to say it's not getting the constant power source? I'm no stereo wiring guru and maybe the unit wouldn't work at all if it wasn't getting the always on power feed but that's my only guess to the problem.

it's not much of any concern to me. But it seems to defeat the purpose to have one of it's inaccurate. You went so far as to dedicate an entire web page to your smiley ass car. Might as well do it right.

Anyway, how did i even end up subscribed to this thread ? I have a different turd of a stereo from these guys. Have fun fixing the problems inherent with lite budget equipment. I'll see myself out.

I also have the GM model. Eonon sent me a link to the patch. I haven't installed it yet because you have to power the radio completely off (disconnect the harness or battery). It is simply too cold to mess with it at the moment. Here are the instructions Eonon sent me:

  1. Please download "NWD-703" file first from this link: Download NWD_703.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way
  2. Decompress the "NWD-703" file, copy it to the SD card.
  3. Then insert the SD card to the unit's GPS SD card slot.
  4. Please reconnect the power cable and after turn on the ACC, the unit will turn on and it will auto enter to the update interface.
  5. It will appear 5 points calibration interface, and will enter the Radio mode interface after you calibrated, then please turn off the ACC to reset and the unit will turn on. The update will be finished.

If you install it, please let me know what you find.

Not trying to thread jack , but has anyone tried this one? Mazda 3 2010-2013 Aftermarket Navigation Autoradio

I ask because I had the eonon D5163 model, (while i liked keeping the stock look, and still having the steering controls work perfectly and all displays working still) I didn't really like it because of how slow the unit was overall (same SIRF atlas V 500 MHZ Processor with 128MB of SDRAM as all of the Mazda units from Eonon. The one i am asking about has a dual core 1GHz A8 Processor with 512MB of DDR2 RAM, so things should be quite a bit more speedy). As said before, with a bigger SD card, it took forever for it to load the songs or switch if it was on shuffle. The touch screen would be a bit wonky at times. When skipping tracks the unit would fail to display the names, or play a completely different song entirely. A beautiful unit overall, but just the weird quirks that would happen and the general slowness of the system were just too much for me.

I'm most likely going to be purchasing it soon and see how well the unit performs, but was just wondering if anyone else had tried it already.

Start a new thread. Why confuse this one with talking about multiple units now? Just makes it harder for anyone coming in later trying to garner information about the GM5163.

Silly me, you even have GM5163 in your subject line. I'm getting you confused with someone else who had the D5163. This brings me to a question then, have you messed much with Miracast?

Anyway, here's what I did.

1. Download the file you linked.
2. Unzipped
3. Copied the folder created by unzipping to the SD card containing the Nav. (left everything else on card)
4. Insert into head unit, disconnect battery, reconnect, turn key to ACC, press power on HU.
5. Update applies, comes to calibration screen then radio.

Tip: After the update is done, turn the key off and REMOVE the SD card. The update is not deleted from the card once it's done so if you leave the card in, it will apply the update every time the system does a cold boot. You need to reconnect the SD to your computer and delete the update directory.

Haven't noticed any difference in anything yet but I don't use ADPE because it mutes all alerts on my phone unless I am listening to ADPE. As such, I just put all my music on a thumb drive that is connected to USB2.

On the plus side, everything still works. lol Also, I can confirm that applying this update, even if you already have the update, doesn't hurt anything since that's exactly what happened to me by not removing the update stuff from the card after it was done.

Couple of things.

1. This morning, for the second time, when the unit tried connecting to the BT on my phone, my phone demanded the PIN code to pair. This never happened with the OEM unit. It doesn't happen every time but occasionally. The first time it happened was before the update, then it happened again this morning.

2. Not sure if this is due to the update, the fact that the unit was reset in the process of the update, or just weird "luck" but it took almost 20 minutes to get a solid GPS lock this morning. I sat in my parking spot for about 5 minutes and never got more than 3 satellites, sometimes 4. After being on the road for about 40 minutes when I got back home, I checked the sat status again and was bouncing between 6 and 7.

I'll report back after more use but was curious if @bitburner; has seen the same bluetooth connection issue.

I haven't had any Bluetooth issues. I wish it would automatically reconnect to A2DP when I start the car, but it appears to play just fine (it doesn't disconnect once connected). I think that the patch from Eonon is supposed to allow it to reconnect when you start your car. Can you confirm?

I have had an issue where it didn't connect, but that was because my phone tried to connect to the Mazda OEM Bluetooth module and ignored Eonon. I plan on removing the OEM Bluetooth module when it gets warmer.

Did you unpair the OEM BT and your phone before you changed head units? If so and it's still trying to connect, that could be the source of my problem I suppose.

I'll try and remember to mess with A2DP tomorrow.

New Member here, I just picked one of these units up (same model).

Did the Software update fix the clock issue? It's hell of annoying.

What Navigation software are you using?

Do you have an iOS device to try screen mirroring? I tried my iPhone 5s running iOS7 and it only streamed the audio, no video.

No, I have a Droid Maxx so it's fully screen mirroring.

As for the time, I will check tomorrow when I go to work and see if it's fixed. I don't have my hopes up though.

For nav software, I'm using iGo Primo. The Kudos maps that come with the unit are kinda shit.

Where did you get primo? I have been trying to get software for my nav to work. I couldn't get the one that came with to load.

I have tried like 4 different versions to now, and none work. I had primo finally work, but it didn't show any maps.

I just tried igo 8 and it puts my unit in an infinite reboot. Still troubleshooting...

Maybe it shouldn't bother me so much, but the time being wrong every time I start my car is annoying me more and more each time. Most of the time it will hit the GPS and set to the correct time in less than 30 seconds...though this morning it took around 5 minutes.

Also, had a lot of issues getting connected to GPS again this morning and again when I left work.

Becoming more and more disillusioned with this head unit's little quirks. I mean, how do you make a head unit that can't keep time when the car is off? How is that even done?

Also, either the GPS chipset or the antenna...or both, are of poor quality. I rarely have a lock on more than 5 satellites in the car yet my cell phone averages 9 indoors away from windows.

This unit is certainly better than previous generations of these type units in that it isn't nearly as laggy, the touch screen is, I'd say, an 8 out of 10 for a resistive type...but these little oversights are just plain starting to annoy me.

@bitburner; unfortunately I have to give you the news that the A2DP still does not automatically start playing after restarting the unit with the update.

It goes to whatever source you were using before you went to A2DP so if you were listening to USB before going to ADPE and maybe hop in Nav or whatever, you shut your car down, start it up, it will go to USB.

Do you have to buy the maps for it or can I just load different software to the unit?

To be honest, right now I'm looking real hard at the Parrot Asteroid Smart. I didn't know about it until after I ordered the Eonon.

I use Igo primo 2.4 and 2.01 both seems to work good.

Also have the same problem with a iPhone 5s, seems not to work

Don't worry, even on Android the Miracast only works on rare occasion. Most of the time the connection fails and today it even froze up my phone.

I've tried it with a Samsung Galaxy S3, a Motorola Droid Maxx, and a Google Nexus 5.

Had the hope that the firmware update would solve the problem, however seems not the case. However the rest works perfect (if I compare it to the former caska unit I had in my previous car)

Well I downloaded D5102iGo, but I'm getting a "Initialization Error LoadLanguage Failed". For the life of me I still can't get this thing to work. I don't know what to do...

I could not get mirror to work either. Then I put a different ROM on my Android Note 2. It worked fine. Then I put a newer custom ROM on my phone, and now it doesn't work. My Note 2 reboots when I connect. So, it isn't the radio, it is my phone.

The mirror function is neat, however, I don't think I'd use it. I have a magnetic mount next to my driver-side pillar. So, I see me phone at all times anyway. In the summer my phone will over-heat, so mounting it next to the pillar allows the vent to cool it off. It works great.

It would be REALLY cool if the radio could tether to my phone's internet connection and run Waze (yeah, it is an Android app).

Could one of you send me your sys.txt info in a pm? My unit keeps rebooting when trying to initialize.

Also, does your auto dim work when you turn on your headlights? Mine doesn't...

Eonon said that a Class 10 SD card reduces the amount of time it takes to switch songs. However, I don't know by how much. I don't know if getting a class 10 will get the GM5163 to see more than 1999 MP3s. I'm not sure how a class 10 would allow the GM5163 to see more songs??? Is it timing out with a slower card?

I posted these questions on another forum where Eonon is answering questions. I'll report back if I find out. Hopefully, I don't have to buy the card to find out. Worst case, what's another $13 at this point?

I can't see any way that a faster card would allow the unit to see more songs. It should theoretically allow everything to go faster but honestly, the only way I can see card speed having anything to do with how fast it loads the next song is if the unit is indexing the card every time you change songs...which is just stupid if so.

A copy of my message I wrote on another forum:

Have the unit now installed for two days and I'm pretty satisfied.

- For navigation I ended up with iGo Primo 2.01 since the 2.4 version gave some strange problems. It's a pitty the navigation is not always started automatic (like I had at my Caska). Only when you press nav.

- The iPod interface is really good, however a pity that the cable is not longer, so you can place the iPod in the armrest

- Fixed the AUX connection with changing the pins

- The Radio reception is working the same as the stock, however the Radio AF doesn't work......
=>
Radio_Data_System Radio_Data_System
In the Netherlands frequency of stations can change between cities, however the eonon doesn't pick this up. If I enable the AF function (even if the car on the same position) it switches to a different station which is kinda strange.
The Caska unit also had problems with this I hoped this unit didn't have this problem

- The Screen mirror with my iPhone 5s doesn't work (latest iOS), followed the tutorial and it connects ok, however the screen isn't mirrored

So I hope they can solve the radio problems, but I think this is not a software problem... Also I think they should fix the screen mirror, since this is something they really advertise with.

So a few additional things I've noticed.

1. The USB player doesn't remember the loop setting you choose. I like it to loop in the directory I'm in since that's how I have my music organized...but each time the unit is restarted, it defaults to looping all MP3's across the whole drive and I have to select loop in the directory again.
2. To my untrained ears, the music volume is liner as I turn it up...but things like the Navigation sounds/voice and the alerts for things like my bluetooth connecting jump louder dramatically at points. Just after one of these jumps, those sounds will be dramatically louder than the music...like the first time it happened and the bluetooth connected alert went off, I jumped it was so loud. Annoying, especially when navigating.

How do more problems keep popping up? Geez.

Now it randomly forgets where it was at in the MP3's on my USB stick. For example...

Just got home from work, shut the car off then turned the key back to ACC and it remembered where it left off. Turned the key off again and back to ACC, then it started from the very beginning of my MP3's again.

This only started happening a few days ago. Already did a hard reset.

At least your navigation is working... i pretty much a have a glorified BT stereo. I tried multiple copies of iGo8 and Primo, they all have errors loading language files... i tried different memory cards and everything. I don't know what to even try next, this complete experience with this thing feels like such a waste of time and money.
