Hey, so I'm really interested in the eonon GM5163, but after reading some of the threads I'm a little skeptical, so which is better the GM5163 or the D5163?
Also I have a few questions, I have the stock stereo without Bose so will the sound quality be bad? And also I've read that a lot people are using the iGo for the gps if that's the case should I even bother purchasing it with the map included?
Thanks!

Eonon's website specifically states that the GM model is the same as the D model but with Miracast/DLNA and NFC.

Ok well I have the stock stereo without Bose so will the sound quality be bad? And is it worth the money to purchase it with the maps or should I just download iGo

I think the stereo sounds just as good as the original (Bose) or VERY close. I would just get iGo. Although, the maps that come with it are okay too.

The stereo just looks soo much better than the factory. The look of the factory radio was my only real complaint with the interior. (Yeah, power and heats seats would have been nice!)

For the SD card issue on not reading songs fast/properly try a couple of things(had a similar issue in my old car)

1 - What class is the SD card? Anything less than a class 8 with that many songs will load SLOW. See about picking up a Class 10 card if possible.

2 - What is the card formatted as? FAT32 is ok but NTFS will probably yield better results if you're using a windows based format.
If the unit can support, I've found that HFS+ works better than both the above(but that is a MAC file structure)

Any updates on the frustration with this head unit being sorted out with the latest software updates? To be specific, the time not syncing unit GPS active, A2DP pairing etc? Also Anyone had any luck with MiraCast and iPhone 5 (Google Maps). How about Bose integration, I thought I saw mention of a possible adapter to retain phone control via steering wheel? Thanks so much... I want to pull the trigger but I get overly annoyed with small annoyances.

I have not seen any firmware updates from Eonon. They 'appear' to listen to their customers, but I don't see in changes to the existing product's firmware. My gut feeling is they are not going to do any updates with the radio. If anything, they may release a model in the future...

The faster SD card did make a difference, but it is still too slow in my opinion. I have not seen any issues with my GPS time. My bluetooth has been working perfectly. It would be nice to display the song title, artist and album art on the head unit (displaying it on the dash would be nice also) when using bluetooth.

Mine works fine with the Bose system. I added a subwoofer (in addition to the Bose system) and it really fills out the bass when listening at lower volumes and gives a little more thump at higher volumes.

I haven't looked into the using the phone controls. I was going to see what signals went to the original bluetooth module (located above the glove box) to see if I could tap off of one of those wires and connect it to the input of the Eonon radio to control the bluetooth. At some point I'll check into it, but it may not be a digital/analog signal (it could be CAN bus). IDK...

Really, it is a good radio. But, it could be a GREAT radio with a few minor software tweaks. I think the hardware foundation is solid.

As bitburner said, they appear to listen and make lots of promises...none of which I've seen followed up on yet. I uninstalled my unit. My particular usage of the unit happened to put me up against some of this nagging flaws every time I started my car and it got annoying.

Thanks for the honest responses Gentleman. I'm probably going to wait and see what they do in the next couple of months. Plus this allows me to allocate the funds to some new springs and shocks / struts.

I'll probably put mine up for sale at some point. I'm pretty nit picky about my stuff and a number of people are perfectly happy with these Eonon units.

Not going to color my dissatisfaction in the hopes of a higher sale though.

I have one for genwon... It sucks with radio reception. Gps is hit or miss. Touchscreen in general is not very precise. Otherwise, it's good. Good sound, lots of inputs. Works with radio controls on the steering wheel. I'd be upset if I'd paid more than i did ($100) But i knew it want gonna be perfect going in. I an planning to buy a backup camera to go with it at some point.

I guess my badgering finally got somewhere. Eonon just contacted me directly.

Supposedly they have fixed the unit losing time when off and the forgetting what repeat setting you had selected for SD and USB playback.

I kinda don't even have the unit installed at the moment. haha If anyone else wants to try it....

So, another update, and yet again, not a single issue fixed that I can see. I swear I think these updates are just placebo and they hope you'll go away. The fact they won't post their updates and only give them to you if you keep on them supports this in my eyes.

After the update, which the rep claimed would fix this, I still have the below issue.

Yeah, I find it really weird that they don't post the "firmware updates" with a change log on their website. I love the word "placebo", that is an awesome way to describe it!

Let's just say this head unit is taking up space on a shelf at the moment and I have no reason to believe Eonon is going to actually do anything to address the issues.

For some I'm sure the unit works fine but for my use case, it's rather annoying.

2)last question is the male RCA plugs a male to female one?

Thank you so much!

To upload images, create a folder on your GPS SD Card called Wallpaper, the picture NEEDS to be 800x480 PNG, if its one bit smaller or bigger than that it WONT SHOW UP.

Do not resize it with any softwares because they tend to adjust the size and that won't work.
Fpllow the steps bellow

RESIZING THE PICTURE:
- Go to photoshop
- Open a new tab 800x480
- Press ctrl+o (open the picture you want)
- Select the entire picture and press ctrl+C
- Go to the "new tab you had first created"
- Press ctrl+v to paste the desired picture (it will probably be bigger or smaller of course)
- Press ctrl+t to resize it to the "new tab" edges
- Click on the layer tabs (usually on the right of the software) click on the image you pasted and click ctrl+e to make it all one single layer and therefore youll be able to save it in png.
- Save it

TRANSFERING IMAGES TO THE HEAD UNIT:
- Get the right sized picture you saved and transfer it to the folder you created inside your GPS SD CARD (Wallpaper)
- Go to your Head unit, insert the SD CARD (on the on that says gps of course)
- Turn the HU on and go to settings
- Scroll all the way down to background and click the right arrow, your pictures should show up after the stock ones.
- Click on the one you want and set it as background.

NOTE:
Once you selected a picture as background if you remove the SD CARD the picture that you selected will still be your background.

NOTE 2:
Follow these steps at your own risk, this worked for me that's why I'm sharing how I did it. I'm not responsible if anything goes wrong. Enjoy!

Guys I have some questions, see if anyone could help me out.
I have a 2012 speed 3 with bose, I installed the unit, didn't need any adapter besides the canbus that comes with the eonon. it works fine, BUT the speakers are over amplified making an electric noise while volume on 0 and volume 1 is way too loud. I've researched a lot but I can't get to understand it, do I need to disconnect my speakers from the bose amp and wire it straight from the hu? is that a crazy job or its easy to get it done?

Also, I just ordered an aftermarket JL 12" sub with a jbl mono amp (which i plan to be using only to the sub) and plan on deactivating the bose stock sub. So I need to find a way to keep the bose speakers running (not over amplified) and the new amp and sub running as well. I am kinda lost about it. any help?

and one more question (the most simple one), I've downloaded some videoclips and ive searched which formats the HU accepts but the only one that actually works is MP4 640x480 which happens to be the worst sound quality of them all. What is the best quality video format you guys got to work?

The answer to your question is literally in the OP and discussed elsewhere as well.

@iammike what @wkmotor asked is also answered elsewhere but instead of saying this I helped as I could. I asked for help bc what I founded by researching wasn't enough, if you can't help you could've said nothing. Thank you anyways!

I wasn't put on this Earth to serve up information at your request either. We have Google for that. You should try it.

FFS, I even posted pictures of exactly what you need to do. Have you even read this thread or did you expect people to explain it again?

I see, pictures and discussion on exactly what you're asking for isn't enough. lol Self entitled brownie.

Maybe someone will come along and be nice and repost what's already been put in this thread for you to read.

•I had to modify the harness that came with the GM5163. I cut the audio wires and put male RCA plugs on them. Then plugged them into the GM5163’s low-level audio out. This really isn’t a con since they said I’d need to modify it for a Bose system. It did work without the modification, but the lowest volume setting (1) was too loud.

iammike, and bitburner; thank you for posting this. I found it very insightful and I deeply respect that you guys are really thorough with your descriptions.

I think I'm gonna try my swing at one.

Just out of curiosity iammike, which unit did you end up settling with after you took your GM5163 out?

Question @bitburner does the OEM TMPS Sensor function remain the same. I saw this model had a Sensor feature. I am just wondering if the OEM TMPS will still work With this head unit. I asked Eonon and they do not know the answer. Much appreciated.
