Default GenPu 12+ Torque app theme

Hi guys, I've been toying around with Torque for a while and made a theme to match the '13 Pu's dials. I have the layout pretty much dialed in at the moment, runnig the app on a 7" Lenovo tablet.

I made multiple custom dials and displays. Some match the car's dials while others are semi-transparent black gradients and another is completly transparent. This allows for imo a very clean and minimalist layout.

The only thing I'm missing is the hex codes for the Mazdaspeed extended PIDs... Without those I can't assign a specific dial to those parameters (ex. KR, BAT) so if anyone can chime in that would be slick.

Included in the zip are ALL the dials and displays I made for the theme, the theme and dashboard folder of the layout in the screenshot below, the vehicle parameters for a Pu and other goodies.

The file is attached at the end of this post, or you can get it here: GenPu 12+ V2 (9Mb) (Click on the blue Download button)

*** UPDATE ***

The dashboard file isn't in the theme zip file so I attached it seperately (thanks @daafisch; for the fyi).

Feel free to try it out and give me some feedback!

To OP,
Great job done.
Will try later today.

To all,
Don't be fooled by other "download" buttons, links.

Use button like above to get OP's zip file...

There's a shit ton of customisable options in Torque so hit me up if you need help fine tuning your setup with my theme. I included a lot of dials and displays so I imagine it can get confusing.

Why don't you make a how to guide?

I am still trying to figure out how to log with this app. I would like to see how it compares to the AP.

With some time, I can surely make a Torque walkthrough/setup guide with pictures as the Torque Wiki is pretty complete as is imo. Check it out and let me know if it doesn't work out for you.

For logging, you first need to setup which PIDs you want to log:

Torque main menu >> Data logging & Upload >> Select what to log >> Press top right corner >> Add PID to log. While you're in the Data logging & Upload menu, you might as well setup the other settings (ex.:logging interval).

Once that is done this is how to start/stop logging:

In dashboard view press menu >> Start/stop logging.

It's as simple as that!

It would be great if you could help me out with this app. I've been wanting to set this up for some time but I'm just lost with it. I need a start to finish with this if you can help a brotha out. From vehicle profile to specific settings for my 2012 speed3. Can you help me out? I'll give you my email and we can go back and forth that way if you don't mind. thanks!

I got your PM but can't reply until I get 15 posts, but here's to answer some of your questions:

- I'll start up a "definitive guide to Torque" tonight and post it step by step, starting with the initial setup and configuration. I'll notify you when I post it so you don't miss out.

From your PM:

It's a bit confusing cuz it says in the description (MPS in Europe). Should I be concerned with that?
- Yes, you need the Mazdaspeed plugin from the market that corresponds to your car's year. Don't bother with the MPS note, the plugin works for the speed too. I have a canadian 2013 and the 2010-2012 plugin works fine. The only difference with the genone and genpu plugin is that genone have WGDC and actual pedal position PIDs extra.

You'll see that once everything is setup properly, Torque is pretty straight forward and fun to use.

Get this one. From experience I don't recommend the one that has the gold and blue label. I had one and it never worked but, that seems to be the deal with these cheep ones. There are good ones and bad ones out there. This one in the pic happened to work for me. Google search bluetooth OBD II dongle. You should be able to find plenty of links. It should cost you around 25 bucks.

BTW I have a Verizon S3 as well.

I have THIS ONE and get 28 PIDs/second average. I might get the mini version (shorter) from the same vendor as I can easily see myself destroying mine with my knee in the near future as it sticks out about 3" vertically from the dash.

Keep in mind that results may vary with different hardware combinations. Unless your unit is DOA from China, pairing issues come from the phone or tablet so you might want to search the web to see if yours is compatible. I use my adapter with a HTC Panache (Glacier/My Touch) phone and a Lenovo A1107 tablet with similar results. Take note that the tablet is dedicated to running Torque in the MS3 so aside from the OS and Torque, no other apps run in the background.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying... You can't copy the files to the device's ".torque" folder, or the theme doesn't load when you start Torque? Did you quit and restart the app once the files replaced?

Make sure this option is checked in the car's profile:

On the main menu screen: Menu Button >> Vehicle Profile >> *your car's profile name* >> Edit >> Use seperate dashboard layout

I included my dashboard config (see screenshot in first post) in the zip file. It should work for you as well (in theory) as I used that same file after a factory reset of my tablet and the layout was identical.

If it doesn't configure the layout automatically, you will have to place the dials yourself.

Make sure your vehicle profile is set up properly. The "Use seperate dashboard layout" option needs to be checked (check out my guide for more info).

FYI there is no file in the dashboard folder. Did you export your layout first?

*Update*

Here's my most recent theme layout. I bought a new tablet a short while ago to replace the first that crapped out, so I haven't been running the app for quite some time. I'll get back to updating my guide soon as well:

*Update*

With yet another, more pod like layout. It's a lot less busy than the previous one but with the same amount of data. I still need to tweak spacing and placement but overall I'm done with modding this theme and back to adding power to the car!

*EDIT*

If anybody wants this exact layout, send me a PM and I'll try to send you the whole package and guide you for the setup.

*UPDATE*

For those who want the exact same layout displayed in post #33 , here it is!

Here are the instructions (included in the zip):

------------
Requirements
------------

- Tablet/Phone running Android 4+ with a screen resolution of 1200x600

- Enough RAM to efficiently read multiple PIDs

------------
Instructions
------------

1- Copy the following folders and files in the ".torque" directory on your Android device:

- dashboards = The layout for the Theme.

- themeDir = Theme content (Custom dials and displays)

- vehicles = Car profile setup for a Genpu + 225lbs (driver+cargo) (optional)

- Torque Backgroung Console 05.png = The Backgroung Image (Essential)

*NOTE*

If you can't see or access the ".torque" folder from your computer, copy the theme folder to another folder on the phone/tablet (ex: downloads).
Then, from your device, using a file explorer, access the ".torque" folder.
Warning: Some file explorers have an option that needs to be checked in order to see root or system files on the device.

2- Start Torque, go to Menu (equalizer icon) >>> Settings >>> Themes >>> Choose a Background Image. Then, choose "Torque Backgroung Console 05" that sould appear in the ".torque" folder.

3- In Dashboard mode, go to Menu (equalizer icon) >>> Layout Settings >>> Import Layout. Then choose "ms3.dash".

4- You can now adjust the individual min./max. of each dial or display by a longpress >>> Display configuration >>> Set Min. Value / Set max. Value.

5- For the numeric displays (AFR, STFT, LTFT, IAT, BAT, ECT) you will want to erase the titles as the are already integrated in the Backgroud image.
To do this, long press on each display >>> Display Configuration >>> Change Title, then simply erase the title. You can do this for the dials as well if you wish.

6- Again for the numeric displays (AFR, STFT, LTFT, KR, IAT, BAT, ECT) you will want to change the qty of numbers displayed afters the decimal.
To do this, long press on each display >>> Display Configuration >>> Number of decimal places.
For IAT, BAT, ECT put none, for AFR only one and for STFT and LTFT, put two.

Enjoy

Sorry for openning so old post, and sorry - I cannot send a PM yet.
Thank you speedaholic for the great theme which inspires me a lot when working on my own one.
Just a little question: How did you hide the readout's units in the GenPu theme?
