Default remote start with climate control

A friend of mine swears there is a remote start out there where you can start the car with an app and control the temp inside the car. Meaning you can control the a/c heat, windshield defrost, yada yada all from your phone....does this exist????

I had a viper system installed on my wife's Camry with the cellular app. The closest thing it could do to climate control was turn on the heated seats if she'd opted to have the wiring changed from the trunk opener to the seat heaters instead.

It works really well - until her battery died. It was due for replacement and no fault of the remote start system, but when it died the unit was doing some really weird shit upon battery replacement. The audio shop that did the install replaced the primary viper unit (not the cellular add-on), and once again all is well.

Just have your A/C or defrost options set to the anticipated temps is the best I can tell you.

Viper SmartStart

Works really well, but for any accessories you want to turn on/off, they have to be wired up at the installation time which costs extra. There is also a yearly fee for using the service.

Whats great is if you have the Alarm and Remote Start combo unit along with SmartStart, you will get notifications on your phone if your alarm is triggered.

IIRC, there is an issue for those who have push start because of the key fob. Not sure if your model has the push start or not...

Don't mean to revive a year old thread, but I have a 2010 tech package with the push to start. Would love to have even just a basic remote starter installed but was also made aware that theres problems with installing one due to the proximity key. Has anyone actually installed one on their speed ?

I honestly don't know anyone who has ever installed a remote start on a speed. Most likely not a good idea. Just get up earlier and start your car and let it idle with the heat on so you don't get so cold. Or put on more clothes.

All I want out of the remote starter is for the car to be locked while idling. It's not out of laziness

I never park out of gear.

There's also a possibility that bypassing the neutral safety switch will have other repercussions as I believe it's used to determine clutch-in in the ECU which is used in cruise control and aspects of the tune that determine AFRs and whatnot.

So carry on.

Cheaper way and 100% error free, leave earlier and sit in the car while it idles.

You really want to take the chance of completely messing up your ECU just so you can warm your car up a little before leaving your house? Sounds lazy to me.

No. Which is why I'm asking if someone has done it in a way that hasn't given them any problems. If the answer is no, then I will be sitting in the car patiently waiting

Default remote start with climate control

Another option which is what I do... Go out start your car and make a cheap $3 copy of your key to lock/unlock your door while the key is in the ignition or key fob is inside the car

Edit:
I was car audio/alarm installer for 5 years can't tell you the amount of times I've heard and seen people start their car in gear and do some damage! When I had my civic hatch 5 speed it had remote start but I religiously leave my car in neutral, no desire to add remote start to the speed

Not sure if this works with the proximity key. The doors won't lock with the key inside the car. Though i haven't tried with an extra key. And for the cheap cost, it's definitely worth a try

Ok guess what they make a manual transmission SAFE remote starters i have one.

Unless you are going out of your way to make it happen it wont start in gear. Any viper system can do it. It is called manual transmition mode. I used to install them on the daily.

With the car running you need to apply the foot brake then apply the ebrake then release the foot brake. You have 15 seconds to press the remote start buttion. Get out and lock the car. Once you lock it the motor shuts off. At this point you can safley remote start the car. If you open a door you can't remote start it unless you repeat the above procedure.

I have remote started more then one car in gear to the point where i refused to install them on a customers stick car. With that said I put a lot of confidance in this system. And to all who thinks that is to much work then you dont know what its like to have 2 feet of snow on your car or a half inch of ice encasing it.

Yes, both of my previous cars have had a remote start system like this. I also learned to drive stick in one of the above cars, so I am accustomed to leaving the car out of gear when I park. It is still a good system to have though, for those just in case situations. Although it was annoying if I had forgot something in the car.

I always left my car out of gear. First time was when i loaded a piece of wood in my car and it hit the shifter. The next one was smokeing weed before a movie and my friend hit the shifter putting the bowl in the cubby below the radio my poor altima.... It did suck when you left something in the car but it is the price you pay.

Remote Starters that are designed for manual trans vehicles have very specifics steps you need to do before exiting the car, so it "knows" the vehicle is in neutral and will allow it to be remote started.

I had starters in my other manual cars, but I never leave it in gear. But with the proximity key, transponder and manual trans the effort and installation IMO is not worth it for a Speed. Plus, you wind up wasting a lot of gas just trying to "warm your car up".

There is nothing overly difficult about installing a remote start on these cars. Mazda even has a neutral output from the transmission that makes all the extra steps of manual transmission mode unnecessary.

Didn't know that. Neutral safety in a manual is very handy for Remote Starts for sure.
