Default Swapping a 2013 HU into a 2012

If I can find a 2013 head unit, how difficult would it be to swap in a 2012? I don't use the actual radio; however, the interface and button layout sorta bothers me. I've looked into the Eonon ones that people have used, but I've read so many reviews that are a little less than positive, with the biggest turnoff being they're quieter, and make buzz sounds at higher volumes.

Now, when I do upgrade to this unit I will be adding an amp along with speakers. I would just get a double din unit, but I really enjoy the OEM look of the 13's setup.
I'm assuming that the stereo would literally just slide in if I replaced that whole section since nothing else is different (from what I've seen).

But my main question would be wiring/ functionality. I haven't seen any threads where somebody has done this, so I have no idea if the steering wheel buttons would become obsolete, or if I'd be able to use the GPS on the actual head unit (I really don't mind where the 12's is up front, but it can be a bit frustrating at times).

I know of the little adapters they make so you can use double din setups, aside from how ugly they look with the huge bottom lip, I'd prefer to just get the OEM one so it's flush since I'll be adding an amp later down the road when I sound damp.

Any input is appreciated.

I was wondering the same thing. I do know the stock radio is an ugly pos !
Why use a dial to change the song, much less plop it in the center like a volume button?

Can't tell you how many times a friend has changed a song trying to turn the "volume" down
