Zoom Boom box

Well I decided to tackle a 8" sub box for the jack space in the hatch. I know there is a company that already makes one that is somewhere near $350.. FUCK THAT I say! I will save all the pics of it in stages and just cut to eye candy.

One 8mm bolt holds this in place and needless to say it fits like a glove without any gaps between the box and the hatch wall it rests against. It is about .30 cu ft of space and the box is polyfilled as well.

I know a couple were interested in this once I was done so I am adding you to the thread. Feedback is welcome although I have to say this turned out really fucking well.

This guy is the man. Not only does it look great, but he has really gone above and beyond doing this job. I have been talking with him for a few weeks, and he has updated me every step of the way building this box. Mine should be done this week, and it even has my wife excited. Thanks bro for this!!!

Mine is a little more then that. I am setting it at $200, between supply costs and time spent I can't see $150 being worth knocking each one out. It will take me about 5 days to complete each FG shell and 1-2 days to finish the box completely. If anyone is seriously interested just lmk...

Even at $200, that is worth it for a plug and play custom sub box. Especially one that works with the car instead of taking up valuable space.

Yeah I go through at least $25 of disposable supplies during the FG stage alone. From brushes, mixing cups and gloves that is money that just gets tossed. I will update the OP with a back side view of the box as well so everyone can get an idea of the quality of the FG work.

Depth on an 8" isn't that big of deal unless we are talking about the JL 8W7s. That thing is so deep that you would need 4- 3/4" MDF pieces & the 1- 1/2" MDF piece for the flush look. Everything else is either 1 or 2 pieces of 3/4" MDF for proper depth.

Yea I was looking at the 8" p2 by Rockford. That JL is crazy. I also already have 2 10" Rockford T1's but I'm guessing that sub would be too much for that space and it would probably overpower the rest of the system.

Yes you are correct about the 10". ideally .30 cu ft isn't enough space for a 10" sub. As for the P2 that is the same depth as the Kicker I have installed so you would only be looking at 1- 3/4" piece & 1- 1/2" MDF for the flush look.

Any have any recommendations for a good sub in the $75-150 range? There are too many to choose from and I don't know shit. I mostly listed to just about anything except country.

What about depth on this? I'm looking at different mag sizes and can't really tell from the pics as to how deep it can go. Hopefully enough for a DVC.
Also, any thoughts as to if a solobaric could be put in it?

The Kicker Comp that is installed in mine is a DVC. From my measurements here is the rule I plan to follow.

Top-mount depth:
4 1/4" = 1- 3/4" & 1- 1/2" MDF
4 9/16 = 1- 3/4", 1- 1/4" & 1/2" MDF
4 3/4 = 1- 3/4 & 2- 1/2" MDF

The last 1/2" MDF piece is for a flush face, if some don't want it I won't include it. As for the solobaric... I would think it would fit since it still has a round magnet. I would just have to cut the 1/2" flush piece to match the speaker lip if that's what you wanted.

That would be amazing and probably the biggest bang out of the 8" back there. After the install weekend I'm going to really put some thought into this. Thanks for the info.

What are your thoughts on how it sounds? I currently have a 12" sub in a cheap box from wal-mart, and i never have it on max. I enjoy a balanced amount of bass when listening to music and hoping this can give me what i want. The video doesn't really do it justice i'm sure..

that vid of the vol set at 30 on the Bose radio. Once you get over the 35 range you are going to feel some shaking going on... haha. As I told @mrmonk7663 & @dizzydtrain, this isn't going to win audio competitions but it is more then enough for nice deep bass without your hatch buzzing like crazy.

Yeah, I don't think this is meant to to blow out your windows. It's a more sensible, stock like upgrade. I don't want a subwoofer box taking up precious space or slowing down my grocery run with too much added weight.
