| Not Ranked : 0 score A catch can will do little to stop a smokey turbo. Some have had luck with using Shell Rotella T6 5w40, BNOON bolt, and raising the RPM's to 950. Others have had luck with going big turbo or installing a low mileage/rebuilt K04. You could just reinstall stock exhaust.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Definitely agree with himurax; some good ol' 5w-40 oil and raise the RPM's (850-950 I believe is the standard). There's TONS of posts about smoking turbos; read and learn yourself!

| Not Ranked : 0 score My 2010 just started smoking this past weekend. Blown turbo seal at 57k miles. Warranty covers 50k 5 years. Mazda dealership wants nothing to do with it. Just bought the car 8 months ago at 46k and now having to do rebuild on k04. Has anyone rebuilt their k04's at G-POP Shop? Going to try and take out and send in some time next week. Been hearing lots of good things about G-POP. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I don't think this is simple pcv or anything simple. I removed intercooler and wet and fresh oil and lots of it in turbine housing and intercooler. Seems to be like the thread say. Pcv valve no working properly at idle causing oil pressure to build up on turbo seals due to the fact that oil cannot drain out properly. Seeing that the only way that oil seals can go bad early is not enough oil causing turbo seals to go bad at an earlier state or oil pressure on turbo seals from pressure inside turbo from not returning properly on return line causing seals to become weak. I believe banjo bolt seems like a quick bandaid for lightly smoking turbo but think more oil would help with longevity of turbo itself. Raising idle to 950 RPM's might keep vacuum high on pcv valve to help with drainage of oil from return line. I've seem a vid on Mazda dealership relocating pcv vacuum line from I take to turbo inlet side to try and increase vacuum pressure moving line closer to turbine. I've always believed that more oil is better for a turbo just as long as it can drain out properly. Seems like mazda has made a bit of miscalculations with developling. Will post up again once k04 has come back from G-POP. Total rebuild and balance and hope it will give me more mileage than the one from factory. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Has anyone done a Garrett upgrade that will pass smog. That is the only concern. They sell Garrett gt28 direct bolt on from website but ball bearing which means more air. More air means more fuel. Fuel pump upgrade and so forth. Need to keep my ride as stock as possible for smog purposes. California laws are a pain and don't got time to be wrenching all the time. Currently on hypertech tune, cpe cold air, jbr RRM, HKS bov, cobb shift bushing. Don't want to have to do anymore or go with Cobb AP due to fuel upgrades. Car drives good 17psi with HT tune. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score what's the minimum requirements for the BNR S3 upgrade? Manifold? Built motor? My turbo started to smoke and would really like to do it right especially with RPMs sale going on, but unfortunately i'm not to familiar with turbo induction.

| Not Ranked : 0 score You only "need" the BNR S3. It's a bolt-on replacement. It's highly recommended that you upgrade your MAP sensor and EBCS at the same time. That's why companies like RPM offer bundles like this: BNR S3 Upgrade Bundle @ therpmstore.com

A beaner turbo is a better option if you want to look "Stockish." All you really need is to be at or near being fully bolted. Things like an upgraded HPFP, 3 port ebcs or restrictor, having an Accesport married to your car, losing one cat, and upgrading the intake is basically the minimum requirements.

My first turbo started blowing smoke due to " Loose Turbine Housing" according to Mazda. I let them fix the first one @ 10k miles. This last one I replaced with BNR. So far so good! But I had everything else needed too..
