Default Several Codes Needing Help Diagnosing

Greetings all,

Needing some help with my 2012 MS3.

Apologies as I'm new to tuning and this this is my first go round. This is first time I've had this many issues with the vehicle and I'm not sure where to start. I've have the car for a bit- all stock then installed my HPFP about a year ago. Finally got an AP about 3 months ago and now starting to have plethora of issue that stated Friday 03/22/2019.

I have attached some log and pretty sure I'm missing some important items, but this is all I have for now - again, I'm pretty new at this.

3/15/2019: The vehicle was at mazda as the Evap line from the tank to the pump was leaking.

3/20/2019: New Plugs NTK 6510 .028 Gap

3/22/2019: I was driving home from seeing family and went to jump in a lane and had to give it some throttle and she immediately hesitated then felt like she was about to die. I pulled off to the side and let the car idol. It was sputtering and calmed down. I got back on the highway and 15 minutes later, sputtering again and this time it died. I was able to drive it home, RPMs jumping around, and did alright as long as I didn't get on the throttle.

Now the damn thing is throwing codes left and right, my AP (Fatal Error - O0100) will not uninstall so I can't take it to the dealer just yet. FML.

Mod List

CS HPFP Internalls
CS Power Series Short Ram Intake
AP V3 Stage 1+

Issues

Hard Start When Cold - Crank and Crank then will fire (started before AP was installed)
Sputtering
AP V3 Will not uninstall (Code O0100)

Codes

O0100 - AP V3 Will not uninstall
P0101 - Cleared Manually
P0171 - Cleared Manually
P0300 - Cleaned and came back

Troubleshooting Steps

New Airfilter
Cleaned MAF
Attached Logs

I'm thinking this may be an O2 sensor. I had the same issues with my Jeep, but this car is a different beast.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you installed the wrong map for your modifications.

Thanks for the response!

I selected the map based on the mod list on Cobb's website and it stated Stage 1+.

I also remapped the car to Stage 1 and had the same Hard start issue when cold.

Is there another map you recommend I try to run?

I haven't reviewed your logs yet, but here are a few thoughts.

If the problems began after you made a modification (or a set of modifications), then whatever you touched during those modifications is a good place to start troubleshooting.

In this case, you had an evap line changed, but the problems apparently didn't begin until 3/22, after you had installed new spark plugs.

Since you are now throwing a P0171 (system lean, bank 1), that suggests one of at least two things:

1) Your MAF calibration is incorrect, or more generally, your MAF sensor is not reading properly (check the sensor to make sure it isn't an aftermarket part, make sure that the calibration is appropriate for the internal diameter of your MAF housing, and ensure that the MAF sensor is fully connected to the pigtail on the wiring harness), or

2) one or more of your O2 sensors is failing or has failed.

The P0300 code could be related to the P0171 code, but since you just changed your spark plugs, and the problems began within a couple of days of that modification, you should pull the plugs, check them over to make sure that they are still in good condition. Keep an eye out for any cracked ceramics, broken electrodes, etc. If the new plugs still look good, as a means of troubleshooting a bit further, you might consider throwing the old plugs back in if you still have them. Also, make sure that the coil pack portion of the wiring harness is properly connected everywhere.

Don't forget that you're working on a 7+ year old car at this point too. The pliability and insulation around wiring in your engine bay will have degraded substantially over the years with heat cycling and age. It is possible that in changing your spark plugs, you may have damaged one or more of the coil pack leads or plugs.

As far as the AP is concerned, you might want to contact COBB about that. You could also try plugging it into a Windows computer and updating it, then re-connecting it to your car.

Ya, I agree with @Vansquish;
Could be plug or O2 sensor, but if you have the CS “stage 2” intake (2.5” inner diameter), then it’s not the tune. The stage 1+ is good for just a stock sized intake and HPFP, I ran it for a couple years without issue.
I would also recommend disconnecting the battery and then the ECU for a minute or two and reconnecting.

Thanks! I'll start on this tomorrow. I'm off for a couple days and will hopefully figure this out.

I'll do some digging on the site and see how to calibrate my MAF correctly- I've yet to do this. The MAF is Mazda branded and checked the wiring and looks fine. I'll pop a multimeter on some connection points.

Cobb has the some files from the AP and are currently working through them to see what the problem is. Hopefully this is done by tomorrow so I can work on the MAF calibration. I'm thankful she isn't bricked!

Thanks! I don't think it's the tune either, but with the errors connecting to the ECU I'm wondering if the MAP somehow went bad? Highly unlikely, I know, but we'll find out in a couple days. She's my DD and I'm driving my built 97 Jeep that's absolutely no fun to drive in traffic and highways. So I gotta get her fixed.

Greetings all,

So, I checked the plugs and they're fouled, badly. I just put them in about a week ago, or so. I bought new ones and decided to put the old ones in as I continue to work through this so I don't burn up another set. I also tightened everything down and ran propane and carb start looking for a vacuum leak. Nothing cam beck.

I also put on a new air filter.

Same shit, different day.

I ran the car and it runs okay without getting on the throttle, but once I do It hesitates or chokes. The RPMs are up and the boost is boosting, but nothing translates. once the car settles, it feels like it's going to die. If I'm idle, it does.

Here are the latest logs.

Nothing back from Cobb yet, I can't flash back to stock at the moment. I can reflash to another map and restore the current one I'm running, but it won't install so I can't take it to Mazda yet.

Attached are some logs for your viewing pleasure.

I'm running out of ideas.

Alight,

So I'm a bit frustrated.

Thankfully Cobb is going to warranty exchange me AP. And Thankfully it comes with a stock map.

However, Cobb did mention that the source of my codes could be caused because the CS MAF settings are much different from the Cobb.

They advised I get a custom tune.

I've read about the MAF calibration- is that all that I need to do?

The plugs you installed, NGK 6510, are one step colder than stock. They are really intended for more modified engines, such as with 3” catless downpipe exhausts and stage 2 tunes running much higher boost, and power at least 75-100 whp above stock. You are nowhere near that. They will tend to foul at your power level. That may be your problem, or part of it.

At your power level, OEM plugs or comparable at stock heat range, are what you need. Try going back to new (not your old worn ones) stock heat range plugs.

Thanks for the advice! I've purchased a set of stock heat range plugs. I'll be installing them when I get back from out of town.

I also contracted Statafied as I read a review on their support and and waiting for them to send me V1 of a new tune.

I also received my new AP which is working well.

Hopefully this will be resolved soon! Things are looking promising.
