Have you all ever considered Fontana Village Resort? I attend a car event there every year in May and it is right by the tail of the dragon.

I've stayed there a few times in the cabins and motel, but not the lodge. Nice place. I've also stayed at their campground at the bottom of the dam, also a nice place.

We've tried Fontana and its always been booked. Also its hard to get everyone to prepay and reserve a spot. The campground is pretty easy. First come first serve.

Hope to see a lot this year! Should be a good time like always

It was also my understanding that they may not be as open to the kind of loud partying that we are known for.

I remember there being a handful of reasons that option didn't work.

I guess it just depends on size of the event. We party pretty hard at Fontana but we also completely book up Fontana so that maybe why they don't complain lol. I understand n.ot having enough commitment out of people maybe one day though. I just hate the idea of camping in October.

The microtel in robbinsville is not far away either. Another option as well. Hang out at the campground....sleep at the hotel

It was brutally cold. That first night I slept in my car. But not because of the cold; because of the snoring, nose whistling duet.

2 heated blankets and a sleeping bag couldn't stave off that cold. This next time I need to bring a lady for snuggles.

I'll have my giant cabin tent this trip again. Its like 10x20. Wonder how I could keep it warm...hmmm...

Worst night I've been there was in the Spring... It was down below 32° all night the second night.

The time it snowed we were in the cabins (thank god)...

All the talk of low temps is worrying me. My good all seasons are almost shot, so I'll have to come on summer tires or buy new tires before October, which I wasn't planning on.

If it hits 32, summer tires will be sketchy as fuck.

Typically it's not too bad, but you're in the mountains so it's a little unpredictable.

Daytime temps are usually in the 50's - 60's at that time.

So do most at fall dragon camp still run summer-only tires? I got that impression, but all the snow talk got me a bit worried too.

Here at home it takes most people a snow or two to get the snow-driving skills back so I try to avoid being out in them at all, not to mention preferably having had the snow boots on for a while at that point even if just in case of ice in the morning.

Yea, I'll still be there on Rivals. If the ground is wet I won't be pushing it on the dragon. If it's snowy, I won't be on the dragon. If it's cold, the tires just take longer to warm up.

To be clear, even when it snowed it didn't stick to the roads for long. It is also a rare occasion in October. Plan for it to get cold overnight, but it should be pretty nice during the day.

We ended up drinking in the garage at the house for the majority of the snowy weekend instead. That's where the fireball video came from lol. I didn't have my car at that event because ZZB, so it worked out great for me

This is a video of last fall at MDC, my batteries died before I got to the tail of the dragon. But, you can see the conditions, and it was still a blast. I was on Continental DW's.

I've stayed in the Fontana cabins, lodge, the campgrounds, and the biker motel at the gap. The lodge was really chill but it is quite removed from the action at the cabins. We had some major parties at the cabins but also we rented and entire strip. The dragon motel was expensive and nasty. The campground was cool but it was like an oven (mid July). Honestly the cabins are the best if you can get the three by the pond or a a few near eachother and party in middle. With all that said, the date for this event is my birthday, so I would love to attend. It has been a few years since I been down, I just gotta find a babysitter.

Fall Dragon Camp "Tune up" 2015

Done and done brother. Look forward to seeing you again, and anyone else that can make it. My car is night and day from what it was in April and I need to get comfortable with it over the next month, hopefully Auto X it a couple times and hit the dragon, before I go for Fall Dragon Camp.
