JBR RSB Grease Fittings

@jbarone; I recently installed the RSB bar and heard a bit of squeaking/creaking in the right rear. I put it on a lift and retorqued the endlinks. I also tried greasing it with a manual grease gun, but when I try to force the grease through the fitting after clamping the gun on, it just seems to ooze out. Do I have to remove the bushing to grease it? Or is it a job for an air grease gun?

You're better off taking the bracket off to re-grease them, in my experience.

The grease "channels" (if you can call them that) in the bushings don't really stay clear (they get gunked up with old grease/dirt residue) and therefore you really have to work the bar up and down simultaneously while greasing (by removing the enlinks) to get any grease in there without removing the brackets (which is more difficult that just removing the brackets and bushings, re-greasing, and re-installing, IMO).

Since he just recently installed it I would think this is his first time greasing it, so there shouldn't be any buildup. The stuff that comes with the RSB is a temporary lube.

It's supposed to ooze out when it's full, were you able to get some grease into it? The first time I greased it with a manual gun it took a decent amount of grease before oozing out.

Yes, it was installed new a few weeks ago. The grease started oozing out immediately, so I don't think it filled with anything at all. Maybe I'll try just removing the brackets\bushings like Nliiitend1 said and going from there.

There is a little check ball in the end of the grease fitting that may be stuck preventing the grease from passing through to the bushing. See that it moves freely using something pointy to depress it. Did this happen on one or both of the fittings?

Just did mine yesterday. Everything worked smoothly. Mini 3oz grease gun and synthetic grease.pumped em up till i saw a lil seepage from the sides. Cleaned access grease with a rag. Use a paper clip, thumb tac or even a ball point pen to see if that bushing inside that fitting like jamie said. Had the same problem with tie rod grease points loosened them up a LITTLE bit and they worked.

If it happened on both sides I would say that is a very rare coincidence and it's most likely the grease gun.

Here's how I grease RSB bushings:
Remove the brackets and bushings and clean the bar and inside of the bushings.
Wrap 3-4 turns of teflon plumbers tape around the bar where the bushing will sit. More than 3-4 turns and it will be too thick for the bushing to fit properly.
Apply a healthy amount of Marine grease over the teflon tape and on the inside of the bushing and reinstall the bushings and brackets. Marine grease resists washout and can be bought at Home Depot or a marine store. The teflon tape and grease turn into a gooey mass.
You will never have to regrease again. Well maybe not never but I did this to my Tripoint RSB when I first installed it and it's been three years without a peep from the bushings.

As far as the grease being compatible with the urethane bushings, I have had no problems and have been doing it this way with aftermarket RSB's for years and all have had urethane bushings.

Look around the internet. I'm not the only one who swears by this method.

I don't have a pic of my present RSB but this is a pic from one of my other cars (Racing BEAT RSB on a MZ3). Same difference, different car.
