(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score There are already a lot of reviews of JBR's intake, but I really wanted to make this review about the combo with the Stratified maps and also the sound of this intake, which is also important too me. I like it to be pretty quiet. And surfing through the webs about what is the most silent intake, I found it hard to get a real definitive answer. Quick story, my previous Speed (which I totalled, not my fault) already had a Injen CAI on it when I bought it, and I really hated that it was so damn loud, especially under normal driving conditions, and I was looking for a stock intake, but then the crash came. So when I bought a new Speed which was completely stock, I really liked that it was so quiet. I did really hate the way the stock intake/TIP sounded under WOT. It sounded like exactly what it is, a lot of air moving through plastic parts. And when I drove my new Speed for about a month and compared it performance wise with my previous Speed that just had an CAI and a aftermarket CBE, I decided that I at least have to put an intake on my car, and maybe get a Hypertech tune or something. But I really didn't want it to sound so damn loud as the Injen CAI I had, so my searching on MSF began. There are a lot of threads about all the different intakes, but when it comes to what's the most silent intake, opinions seem to vary a lot. But also thanks to @Grumpyjap I came to the conclusion that it was best to go the silicone route and get a SRI+TIP. You made pulling the trigger easier, so thank again for your input. Choosing an intake I was thinking at some point: Jamie's intake is silicone, he seems to have an outstanding reputation here, his design is great, but wait, what's this? A free Stratified OTS map included? Who's that? And of course, it's Lex; a well known and respected tuner on this forum. What a great idea to combine this intake with a free Stratified OTS map. After some days of thinking I was like: f it, I'm getting the JBR SRI+TIP, a day later: might as well get the Boost Tubes and the BPV hose too for shits and giggles. And then I decided, Hypertech can kiss my ass, I'm gonna man up and buy an AP, HPFP internals, test pipe and get a costum Stratified tune to get some serious power. Just to be clear here, I have a European 2009 genwon Mazda3 MPS and this intake will fit. Everything went right on and works great. I went for the red ![]() Ok so the sound. comparing it to the Injen CAI I had, this is really a lot more quiet. I don't know if it's because of CAI vs SRI, or metal vs silicone, or with or without TIP because I installed everything at once. But it is exactly the sound I was hoping for. Under normal driving even with windows open I can't even hear the turbo spool or BPV release, just a very little faint spool sound when accelerating a tiny bit more aggresively but very quiet and no BPV sound. Perfect! When I'm going WOT it of course makes a lot more sound, but in combination with the engine working hard the sound is really sexy. Not that obnoxious loud sound like when I was running the CAI, but nice and hearable and really nice a bit more in the background of the engine sound. I do have to say that when I'm accelerating at half boost sort of speak, the intake makes a lot of sound. Like it's sucking air in the same speed as at WOT but less engine noise, so the intake sound is very noticeable or something? It doesn't matter to me because I never drive like that in neighborhoods, and that is where I want it to be quiet. I do realize that I probably come off like I have gaping vagina talking about all this sound comparisons of different intakes, and I love getting more power, but I really don't like to drive around getting a lot of attraction letting that turbo sneeze and shit lol. And I just wanted to put my 2 cents here for people who are like me. Ok to the Stratified OTS map. I'm still waiting on the internals, so I will post a new thread in the Stratified section after the costum tune, but i just wanted to put this here for the people who are interested in the JBR+Stratified combo. As you can see the power gains are great for just an intake and a Stratified Stage 1 93 OTS map. I have to say Lex did a great job on this map. The power delivery is so smooth and linear. Under partial throttle, under WOT, it doesn't matter, it delivers a great, powerful and super smooth ride. I'm really looking forward to get my internals so I can flash the Stage 2 map, and especially getting this costum tune going. Running his OTS map, combined with the knowledge he has and shares on this forum makes me really confident my car is and will be in good hands. I have to say running this JBR intake combined with just this Stage 1 map really has transformed the car. It's not just the HP/torque gains, but also the way it delivers it to the road, much more responsive and fun to drive. Conclusion: I really have nothing bad to say about this combo so far. The intake is really what I was looking for. I now also completely understand why Jamie has such a good reputation. He has great products, he has a great costumer service, and he also is a great guy. When I completed my order with him I noticed the high shipping costs (I live in Europe) and I e-mailed him about it, he said he had already noticed it and was able to put everything in one box and that way he saved me $80 bucks ![]() He also anwered all my noob questions very quickly and friendly. And combining his intake with the Stratified maps is just a great idea. Thanks a lot Jamie. Also thanks again to the MSF community. You save me so much time, effort, headaches, and money with all the information that I can find here. At the same time, f you guys. I got the mod bug, and I sure as hell know that I've gotten it here ![]() R Last edited by Raymond; 06-06-2013 at 07:42 AM. |

But I have the same question for you: Why didn't you get a Stratified custum tune?
Plus my friends don't give a shit about tuning, so this is one of the few places I can talk freely about HPFP's, SRI's and stuff like that lol. | |||

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Hey guys, I've flashed the Stage 2 93 oct map today Green: Stock Blue: Stage 1 Red: Stage 2 Stock and Stage 1 was at 10 degrees Celsius, Stage 2 at about 18 degrees, which should have cost me at least a couple hp's right? datalog11.csv I have to say that this Stage 2 map is just as smooth and fun to drive as the Stage 1 map, just more powerful. Lex really does an amazing job with these maps IMO, and I recommend them without a doubt. Now it's time for the custom tune... |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Thanks, Lex is really on top of his thing. I mean, just for an OTS map these are pretty impressive gains IMO. An added 41 HP is always welcome ![]() Although the power gains between Stage 1 and Stage 2 are very nice and noticable, the biggest difference IMO is between stock and Stage 1, because it really changed the way the car drove with Lex's tune. I saw him post somewhere that the 1st Gen stock had been set that at about 70% Accel Ped. Pos. the throttle is actually 100% opened, to make it feel more aggressive. I can really feel that. It's hard for me to explain in English, but with Lex's tune, at every Accel Ped. Pos. it accelerates consistent and at the same level. No jerking, just super smooth. My enthusiasm has me rambling again lol, I will make a new thread in the Stratified section after the costum tune where I will post my impressions in depth. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Hi guys, new guy here -- but I've been lurking for some months now. Anyway, do you think getting a protune (e-tune) is necessary if I plan on running the stage 1 map with this intake for a while. I know this sounds dumb because e-tunes will account for the varying environmental conditions and aspects of my motor as assembled by Mazda, that aren't necessarily accounted for in OTS tunes; but, I have 300 miles on my car and plan on running this setup until my first oil change. Then, the big guns will roll out in terms of creating a legitimate power setup. |

Welcome to MSF. I think these Stratified OTS maps are on the safe side, so that they can be used with different mods (It's calibrated for the JBR Intake of course) and different types of weather and stuff like that. When getting the costum tune, it's going to be really focused on the specific mods you have and the overall weather you have I assume. Please correct me if I'm wrong Lex. Either way, Lex says it's ok to run it for as long as you want. I'm telling you man, if you want a nice and pretty quiet intake, and a smooth but powerful load based tune, get this JBR+Stratified combo, you won't regret it. I highly suggest donating, I feel that in just a few months I have already gotten my money's worth out of the donation. I'm highly satisfied with the few purchases I have made. It is imperative to make those purchases in the correct order on this platform as well. Read first, purchase with confidence second. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I switched a few days ago to the stage 2 S OTS map. The car does feel much better and i havent noticed the back fire as much as i used to get with the cobb map shifting 3-4. AS far as actual performance i have no idea, since i have a ETS TMIC now and i feel like amb temps really change the way the car feels power wise. Since i switched its been much cooler about 77 amb daily instead of 89 amb without my tmic and with cobb ots.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Excellent, i have a FMIC coming and i was going to get a strat e tune but now im thinking about changign exhausts for a quieter tone. If i ran the stage 2 map for no intercooler on an fmic equipped car will it have any ill effects? Im just weary of high boost psi with out a tune.

This buys you a peace of mind from a professional looking at your logs and tuning your car, maximum performance from whatever you have installed, your local fuel, and it's a fraction of what most hard parts cost. If I were to give you an answer without looking at any data from your car, I would just be guessing since there are so many variables involved.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I switched from Cobbs Stage 2 OTS to Lex's OTS and made a few more ponies, and the car idles sooo much better. Power delivery is very smooth as well. I did notice boost spike up to 21 lbs a few times around 3000RPM though. Im running the PG SRI+TIP, and im saving up $$$ to get JBR power path 2 intake, then will install the DP and Test pipe that are sitting in the garage and then custom its tune time! JBR+Stratified is a winning combo!

| Not Ranked : 0 score one last question. is there a lot of movement with this intake? I don't see that it's clamped down anywhere and I'm worried about the maf getting wonky reading from turbulent air as a result of the filter bouncing around. I know you guys have no issues, but I figured I'd ask since on my old car the MAF was a b!tch and I had to tune from the MAP (e.g. map tune). |

| Not Ranked : 0 score No movement on mine either. Monitoring intake temp with my ultragauge shows only 2-3 degrees above indicated ambient with my stage 2 JBR setup...impressive in my book for a SRI!
